Uncle Sam’s is definitely a childhood/college favorite, but it's also a place I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone visiting Pittsburgh knowing that by any measure, the sandwiches (and simple, crisp shoestring fries) here are totally top notch.
Honestly, this place is as high on my list of "to do"s as is visiting old friends when we're in town. Never a let down, and the best cheesesteak I've had outside of Philadelphia, bar none. I miss the Oakland shop we frequented when at Pitt, but the remaining shops honor the delicious quality equally well, especially this squirrel hill location.

Extremely disrespectful people who don’t take their job seriously whatsoever. There was half a nail in my food and an earring. They refused to give a refund and were extremely rude. Please never go to this place for the sake of your time and money.

I was craving some quick easy lunch, and this is the perfect place for that. I went on a Monday noon, and it was pretty filled with the lunch crowd. I guess a lot of people who work in an around come here to get lunch. There is plenty of seating inside, so even with a lot of crowd, it wasn’t very difficult for me to find a place to eat. I got the Philly cheese steak with mushroom. Pay Friend in the new wait for your order while they call your name. Everything is made fresh in front of your eyes on the griddle including the fresh fries. My food came literally five minutes. The fries were thin cut and very fresh and crispy. Sandwich was freshly made and nice and crispy. I have never had a Philly cheesesteak before so I’m not sure if the taste was authentic, but it was pretty tasty. I guess my only complain was the quantity of meat was very less, and it was mostly just bread, but then again I don’t know if that is the norm. They lot of different type of sauces and condiments that you can get for yourself. I really liked it, and for the amount it was great value for money. If you want an easy, cheap lunch, I would definitely recommend this place.
I have been coming consistently to Uncle Sam’s for over 19 years. I have always sought the buffalo chicken sandwich and have claimed it to anyone I meet that it’s the best, period.
I don’t know if it’s the new owner or not, but I was embarrassed to bring my fiancé and my dad their sandwiches yesterday. There was so little meat on our sandwiches we were getting mostly bites of bread. Bread I might add that tasted a bit off and stale.
Spending $47 on 3 lame sandwiches that were either lame bread or all bell peppers and no meat, it was just so disappointing.
I REALLY hope that this gets corrected, I have been a loyal eater here for nearly two decades and I do not want to lose this staple in my life.
Don’t even make me talk about the drop in fry quality…
Vegetarian options: Uncle Sams use to be the greatest I go to the one in Squirrel Hill it was horrible not horrible but not the same with less meat I haven been in awhile I don’t believe I’m going back then the have a whole new group of ppl working they have no personality I’m a foodie I believe they changed the bread , the bread makes any sandwich it just wasn’t Uncle Sams as I know it & $30.00for two sandwiches isn’t bad the price went up a lot I understand that but make it worth it

Never disappoints. The sandwiches are HUGE and really really good. Meats tastes fresh, bread is delicious, fries are cooked to order. I always do carry out and am always met with a polite person on the phone, and my order is always ready when they say it will be. Portions are very large.

This is my absolute favorite sandwich shop in Pittsburgh. Delicious sandwiches, free fries when you dine in. We love getting the provolone sub, a big hunk of griddled cheese, warm and gooey, on delicious roll with the usual toppings. We don't live here anymore, but Uncle Sam's is always our first stop when we come to visit.
