The food was perfect. Catfish and whiting with greens and yams as sides were just perfect. The owner/chef did everything and was extremely attentive and friendly. The restaurant is underground thus it's not a 5-star location, but they have done a good job with the space they have. They seem mostly a takeout place, but the food is great
You could easily walk by this place and disregard it—a restaurant in the basement of an apartment building? But you'd be wrong. Literally a mom and pop operation, it should be your go-to spot for soul food in the city. Chicken is tender, moist and perfection. Collards are juicy, flavorful, and just the right amount of savory kick. Mac-n-cheese is as close to heaven in earth as I can imagine. (And I'm a Christian pastor.) The owners are delightful and service-forward...
I had the catfish and my friend had the chicken fingers. It is all good. To enter the restaurant, walk into the apartment building and follow down the stairs into the banquet room.
Parking: There is no lot but there are plenty of places within walking distance where you can find free parking. No one is going to ticket you if you want to use a lot immediately in the area for take out.
