The food was fabulous! I had a hot roast beef and fries. My friend had the reuben. The decor is a bit outdated, and there is some type of droopy plastic covering a big hole in the dining room. But it's cozy, and the place is clean looking.
We had originally gone for the stuffed cabbage, but they were out.
We had a fabulous time with our server, who was just helping out because they were short staffed.
I do highly recommend giving them a try. I'll be going back for sure.

I hope to revise this review some time soon.
I've tried to go to Emil's three times in recent weeks on Saturday afternoon, and the door has been locked all three times. The hours listed claim that there should be service on Saturday until 4:00, so something is out of whack here.

Worst experience. Ordered a Reuben and it was so soggy I couldn’t pick up the sandwich. Told the waitress (owner I think) who acted like she could care less. Took it back to the kitchen and 15 minutes later it came out. The bread was good but they took off the sauce and cheese. Never apologized or asked how it was. I own a business and I make sure my customers are happy. They don’t care. It took a very long time to get our food to begin with. Very loud too. Go somewhere else. Sorry I even had to give 1 star😝 because that was even too much!

What a pleasant surprise! When people tell you there’s this place in Rankin with great food, you think they are nuts. Well it true!

From the outside you wonder if you are in the wrong place but the moment you get there, the staff go out of their way to make you feel right at home. By the time we left, I felt like they were all old friends! The prices are very reasonable. We both got the Reuben and it was humongous but I always a FOMO and wished I got the holupki or the meatloaf sandwich… so I am going to definitely have to return.

Oh and the onion rings! Bam! So good!!!

Tons of free parking across the street too.
There’s really no reason not to support a place like this.

I came with a friend who is originally from Pittsburgh, she said we had to come here for the fish sandwich. We live near the beach in South Florida and traveled to Pittsburgh for a fish sandwich and I gotta say it was pretty darn good!

It's a small local place, but servers had a heart of gold. Local hometown atmosphere. Food is fresh and not frozen. All items are fresh an homemade. Friday specials made it even more special. Love supporting local establishments that have been around 60 years. Come support small hometown places

Emil's is a surprise to some, tucked away on a corner in Rankin, PA. The restaurant at one time had a line waiting outside when U. S. Steel's Carry Furnaces was operating in Rankin. Although the mill has been closed for over 40 years, the legacy of Emil's lives on. Krissy, Emil's daughter, has taken over the business and nothing has diminished. This is a family home cooked restaurant. This is not, I reemphasize this is not a fast food place. The food is outstanding, listen when a restaurant gets rave reviews for its Liver and Onions, you know you're in the right place.
If you like sandwiches, try the Reuben, Rachel, Italian Hoagie or their Fish. How about soups, do you like Wedding Soup, Potato Soup, Vegetable Soup? She has outstanding entres from Amish Fried Chicken to Prime Rib. A caveat is during Lent, get there early, the restaurant is packed from opening to closing. I hope this gives you a little insight into a Pittsburgh restaurant diamond. I drove a taxi in Pittsburgh close to 40 years, which I have dined at restaurants throughout Allegheny County and its surroundings; Emil's is at the top of the list of home cooked meal restaurants.
