I discovered Mike’s when I was pregnant in April 2025 because I didn’t bring a lunch to work and I didn’t have a ton of time in between meetings (it is walking distance from my office). The Buffalo chicken cheesesteak quickly became my pregnancy craving. I am not exaggerating when I say that I raved about this cheesesteak for 30 minutes to my husband when I got home from work that day and I have had my fair share of buffalo chicken cheesesteaks in my lifetime. After frequenting the shop a few times, Ron started to recognize me and now I am deemed a regular. He’s the best. In my house, Wednesdays are now “Cheesesteak Wednesdays” - I get one for lunch and bring home two for my husband and I to eat for dinner (yes, I eat it one for lunch and dinner every Wednesday). Since April 2025, I have placed 40+ orders and they never disappoint!

What’s up folks? I’m BigDaveIsFat & I’m back with another review. This review takes us to a place that’s been in Reading, Pa for many years. For a very long time I wondered why this place has never been featured by anyone on social media. I used to look at pictures and videos online of their food and loved what I saw and always wanted to try them out. So I finally did and this is how it went. I can see why this sandwich shop has NEVER been mentioned throughout social media. It’s because THIS IS THE WORST CHEESESTEAK IN READING, PA, BERKS COUNTY & quite possibly THE WORLD. For starters the steak is seasoned with ADOBO. It’s the nastiest seasoning one could use on a cheesesteak. Had my shizz tasting like Latin cuisine. If I wanted that taste I would’ve purchased a cheesesteak from a BODEGA! Next, the steak was DRIER than ARRID EXTRA DRY! The photos don’t lie and as you can see, one of the photos is of a worker cooking off steak meat. That is the problem. Pre cooked steak meat is for ROOKIES who can’t keep pace. Even done properly the cheesesteak will struggle because it’s pre cooked. The onions were also pre cooked and cut very, very thin. It was like eating pieces of string. Man……That cheesesteak SUCKED! It was moist deep on the inside and dry everywhere else. Look at the pictures, but DON’T be amazed. The fries were good, but ONLY because they use REAL Cheez Whiz. Mike’s just may be the ONLY shop in BERKS that actually uses it & not just some old, regular cheese sauce. I caught a few places out there saying they use cheez whiz, but when I ate it I knew it wasn’t cheez whiz. Mike’s used real cheez whiz. The star of the show was the old school, Guers Ice Tea which has been around since 1930. My lady friend ordered a specialty burger and onion rings. The waitress/cook never wrote it down so she never got them. She opted for a bag of chips & didn’t finish her burger because of issues with it. Unfortunately, this meal was so horrible, I couldn’t drink the tea, I ate all the fries and half of the sandwich. I had the other half wrapped to go and fed my dog with it. Love this place! I grew up around the block in the 70's, Mike always made great sandwiches. I was a little cautious when the current owner took over and made some changes, but happily they kept the core menu in place. Gotta try the Mike's Special when your in the mood for a great burger.

I just had the worst cheesesteak. The tell should have been when he brought the precooked meat out and threw it on the grill. I ordered it with sauce and onions. It had no onions, no flavor. I will never eat at this establishment again. Horrible, horrible and horrible!!!!!!

We have been looking for good cheesesteaks, and this was a definite fail. The staff was nice and friendly. The Italian was good, fries were good but that cheesesteaks was the worst I've ever had. The meat wasn't a bad texture, but the taste was way off. We ended up throwing it away. I refused to waste my calories.

This is my second time in 1 week that i get my lunch from Mike's great food, super fresh, the portions are big and the price really affordable, great place I will take few cheese steaks to my family in NJ this coming Friday.
