Calypso - Mediterranean Cuisine

I wish I had clicked more pictures of the food as well as the surroundings and vibe.
This Greek restaurant is in the heart of Skippack- great location but terrible upkeep. The inside itself is small , with a few tables upstairs. So if you can’t take the stairs you have to sit outside. Now the outside was a mess. The old dirty shower curtain hanging in front of the door to the kitchen killed my appetite. My view was the dumpster across the street. And there were broken tables and chairs and messy tablecloths strewn all over. So I’d give it a -5 on upkeep, hygiene and atmosphere.
Our server was very sweet, but seemed totally overworked and running around alone serving the few tables taken outside. It’s BYOB which is great, points for that.

Now the food. We ordered:
1. The mezze platter. Probably the worst hummus I’ve had in my life. The tzatziki was flavourless and the baba ganoush was a sad attempt more like mashed unsalted eggplant.
The platter did come with tomatoes, grapes, olives and figs which was a great touch. Points for that. But overall do not order this platter.
2. Chicken with feta - it was good. Lacked Mediterranean flavour but the mash was good.
3. Shrimp and Feta Orzo- I’m a huge fan of orzo so points for that. But again kind of bland. Good portion though, filling and shrimp were generous.
4. Shish tawook. No. They can’t call this shish tawook. Chicken was so chewy and tasted of nothing. Not even salt. If you’ve ever eaten real shish tawook, you would cry.
5. Harissa Shrimp Sagnaki Appetiser - probably the best and only thing I ate at Calypso. Very well cooked shrimp. Excellent flavour. They should only have this on the menu.

While I was there I kept looking at the cute sushi spot across with a cute bridge and garden and wondered if I should’ve gone there. We spent $130 for those 5 dishes. Not worth it.

Greek is one of my most eaten and loved cuisines and if you’re eating here, believing it to be authentic , don’t do that to yourself.
I would ignore the mediocre food if the vibes were good but we could not wait to leave.
Skippack is a small town and that’s probably why this place gets away with this shabbiness becoz there aren’t too many options , but it’s really not acceptable.
Pls make it presentable for a customer who spends their hard earned money on a meal outside to have a good time.
Won’t be going back. Might take out the shrimp sagnaki though ;)

The food was bland and unseasoned. Even our salad had barely any dressing on it. Where we were sat upstairs was incredibly dusty and our table wobbled. We had to take turns leaning on it to keep it stable. There were pieces of something like plastic wrap or parchment
in my orzo. The only good food we had was dessert which looked like it was outsourced. Our waiter was training and only checked on us once. On the way out they had trouble with the card machine and had to void the first time they ran my card. Which didnt make sense because it went through the first time. Definitely not worth the price for such low quality food and service.

Just a wonderful BYOB in the heart of Skippack. We dined outside which was spectacular in it's setting. The food was adventurous and thoughtfully prepared. The prices were reasonable and the service was excellent.

Extremely dirty restaurant and terrible food. The worst food i have had in a very long time. I ordered the dolma and the lamb shank. Both were bland and flavorless and very greasy. Basically tasteless grease. Server was nice though.

Amazing food, the Branzino was incredible. Lily provided phenomenal service and made it an extra special experience for our child. We will definitely be back!

Food was great. The building looks like an Alpine ski haus. It is a narrow space and must take the stairs to get to the seating (fyi for those with limited mobility; there is a table for 4/6 on the first floor near the open kitchen).

The special Barramundi dish was fantastic! The Shrimp Orzo was good but the sauce on the fish dish was so good the orzo felt under developed. Had the Mezze appetizer which was also good. The baklava and the peanut butter bomb were also delicious- though I wish I would have kept my knife to cut the baklava. Service was good. The space was packed, but comfortable.

Amazing experience! The Beef Kokkinisto was the standout. Slow cooked beef in a rich tomato sauce with a hint of cinnamon that made it so flavorful and unique. The Moussaka was also fantastic, with tender eggplant and a creamy bechamel sauce that perfectly complemented the lamb. Both dishes were packed with authentic greek flavors. On top of that, the cozy and beautiful interior really adds to the whole experience. It's a perfect spot for a relaxing meal. Highly recommend!

We had birthday dinner for my wife and 12 family members. Moe is an excellent chef and his staff makes you feel as if you are the only customers and most important customers

The entire experience was weird, unlike any I've ever experienced, including the restaurant layout , unfriendly inefficient waiter (only one), and food. The open kitchen is upfront. A welcome by the chief would have been nice.
