The Slippery Mermaid Sushi AND Modern Tiki

Very disappointing experience at The Slippery Mermaid.
We were seated and given menus, but after that... nothing. We waited more than 30 minutes and no one came back to take our order, check on us, or even acknowledge we were there. We were completely ignored, and the restaurant wasn’t even busy. Truly frustrating and unprofessional.

It seems that they never even entered us into the system. When we finally got up to leave, the hostess started saying random things that made no sense, and the only adult-looking staff member (possibly the manager?) just stood there in silence—no apology, no explanation, nothing.
Once again, the restaurant wasn’t even busy, so there’s really no excuse for this level of disorganization and poor service. We left extremely disappointed and won’t be returning.

The food is always delicious. Last time I went, it took SO long to get our food. It was ridiculous. The food was delicious, of course, but the super long wait somewhat ruined the experience.

Nice menu and very casual atmosphere. They have a patio but it was closed on the sunny day that we stopped in. Service was on point.

Cute place over all but in no way should 2 specialty rolls take 50 min when you’re dining in. The waitress blamed it on them being busy which they were heavily for online orders but it really felt like she forgot to put in our order because I saw another table of two get their order before ours that sat down after we did.

This is a quaint little sushi shop with fabulous decor and delicious food. I have tried numerous rolls over the years; but had a tropical and spicy crab today. Both were delicious. I sat on the back patio to enjoy the beautiful sunny day. There is a small bar, the cocktails are also phenomenal - love the pineapple mojito.

The parking varies depending on the time you arrive. It may be paid or unpaid street parking.

This is the most overrated place. Literally every single time we order takeout they screw up our order. This is the THIRD time items were missing from our order. The time before this they gave us the entire wrong order and we had to contact them repeatedly for a refund. I have never had a restaurant that is so inept and incapable of getting their act together. Very dissatisfied.

We just didn’t like it at all. My husband got the sushi and, since they don’t have fried rice, I got the rice bowl with shrimp. The taste was just so bad. We had saw some good reviews and thought we would give it a try. Won’t be back.

Sushi was good, service was terrible. From the time we were seated to the time we received our food it took over an hour. The ground was covered in sushi parts, that people kept stepping in. And no one swept it up. They just need to hire more staff, especially another cook and extra waiters. It’s unfortunate because we did enjoy the food, but would never dine in again.

So yummy ! We love slippery mermaid - would take any sushi lover who visits us here :)

Food is always excellent here. Had to wait a bit longer than expected, but worth it.

I was so excited to finally try this place for the first time and I was disappointed so fast. Ordered two rolls and two salads and the rolls were ok but a lot of the vegetables in my slippery mermaid roll looked brown and not fresh it just didn’t taste right. The shrimp roll was ok. Both rolls came falling apart. Ordered a cucumber salad and the cucumbers didn’t look fresh as well. The tuna seaweed salad had WAYYY too much tuna on it. I mean they didn’t even give me any seaweed it was straight tuna and like 4 cucumber slices. After spending $50+ on two rolls and two salads I don’t think it’s worth it.

The Sexy Mermaid roll was amazing! My husband loved his Spicy Tuna and Salmon and Nigiri. We talked about it for days. Quick service and great customer service.

Such a perfect sushi place nestled in the town of Sewickley. Staff is friendly. They have a patio area with a fire pit, a nice bar and plenty of seating indoors. The sushi is top notch and each menu item is reasonably priced. It's a great spot for lunch or dinner. Excellent date night spot!
