CCB is one of my favorite places in the State College area. They use local Rothrock Coffee beans, which are the best. Somehow, it's also the way they make their lattes and other tea/coffee drinks that make it my favorite compared to any other coffee shop. It just always tastes perfect to me. It's more delicate, which I enjoy.
The buns are unique for this area. They make their buns from scratch, fresh each morning. And there are so many kinds! The owner, Skye, is one of the most creative business owners I've met. He pours everything into making this place amazing - and it shows. There is always something new happening, and I find it inspiring.
He does a good job at hiring staff that are friendly, competent, and interested in providing a genuinely nice customer experience. Each person's personality shines through at the same time, so it feels special. Skye respects those he hires. You can even see it displayed on Chew Chew Bun's Instagram.
As of 2025, there is an app where you can order ahead and keep track of/use loyalty points easily. I like that I can see what is going to be available in the bakery window before arriving to the store.
Wishing Chew Chew Bun all the success this year and others to follow!

Heard about this place through friends and I visited with my wife and children last week. I really loved the aesthetic and atmosphere. There was also this young lady I think her name was Katrina or something I forgot. She was really nice to me and my family and I really loved her pastries. I would recommend this place to everyone and would definitely visit again!

Eh, I was underwhelmed. I think particularly because this is not my usual selection for coffee. It was very milky and overly sweet. I get how most people would enjoy this but for me I am not into overly sweet lattes. I also love anything in a 24oz cup but their sizes here are small. Overall I could see how others could like this place but I do want to try the desserts, they look really good. But as for the coffee, I’ll stick to vibe just down the street

Very cozy place. Egg tarts served flaky and warm when I get them. I love getting a hot matcha latte here! I’ve tried other cafes downtown but others’ matcha tends to lose its tea flavor/more milk forward. Baristas are also super welcoming.
Its fun seeing what new pastries they come out with. During the art festival, they had this delicious hojicha cream bun that kept its strong tea flavor inside a sweet and slightly savory soft bun…their bakery is awesome. One of my favorite spots no question.

I heard from some colleagues that Chew Chew Bun has some excellent pastries. However, when I went there with my partner, their pastries did not live up to this expectation.
We got the chocolate cookie and chocolate muffin and both were so dry that we could not finish either of them. Keep in mind, I am very cheap and I always finish my food, especially if it is a $4 pastry, but this was different. I honestly do not understand how you can make a muffin or cookie that dry. Like I feel like you would need to intentionally make it that dry.
The service was quite nice and the workers were quite friendly.
The cafe is quite small (like there are 3 seats) and we really couldn’t find a seat to sit so we had to go outside and eat else where.
I still have some hope since I trust my colleagues on their food recommendations, but I still do not know how their pastries were so dry!

Absolutely adorable coffee shop with amazing baked goods! My favorite place to stop by for a latte and breakfast in the entire state college area. They have food that can appeal to anyone as well as unique flavors. The employees are always a delight. Can't recommend them enough!!

I'm obsessed w/ Chew Chew Bun, just ask my coworkers. I dream about their scallion sesame bun and the dark chocolate filled bun.... Their drinks are excellent too. Great unique local choice. The garlic bun was a little much for me but I love that they always have something new to explore

Love it! It reminds me of home! Not the typical american bakery. It's more Asian!

I have to say the egg tarts don’t quite live up to my expectations. They are served cold which is already not a good sign. The pastry feels overcooked, with the bottom rising too much, causing the custard to have overflowed during baking, but instead of being super crispy, it is rather hard and chewy. The custard is quite dense and sweet but the amount of custard is a bit stingy and there is hardly any extra aroma or taste to it. I was anticipating them to at least be as good as what I made myself at home. I also had a ham & cheese. The strongest flavor of it is Heinz ketchup and really, I believe anyone can roughly reproduce it even in a busy morning.

Best teas and everything on the menu is great! In particular, the peach oolong ice tea and oatmilk matchas are my favorites. The bun and cheesecake are heavenly.

Delicious baked goods. I had the pepperoni roll, which was okay (flaky and a bit spicy). The best items I had were the Taro roll (sweet like an apple tart) and peach upside-down cake (gooey and delicious). What they have available changes often, so I was disappointed not to see any pork or red bean buns. Hopefully when I go back! There isn't much seating and it was a bit crowded, but I got my snack to go.

I miss the Asian bakeries from my hometown, so I was delighted to find this place. They have my childhood favorites: pork sung buns and green onion hot dog buns. Also, I’m not exaggerating when I say their lavender honey custard bun is a taste of heaven. Really good tea selection too. If you’re ever in State College, check them out! Get there early before stuff runs out.
