Great restaurant for dining when visiting Penn State. Diverse menu has plenty of steak, fish, and pasta choices. I went with the Prime Ribs which was tasty and cooked to perfection. Service was super friendly and helpful.

Amazing atmosphere & food! The food is exquisitely prepared & served. The waiters & waitresses are attentive & friendly. There's also a nice drink menu whether it a soda, wine, draft beer or mixed drink. You won't be disappointed!

Beautiful and delicious food, in a classy place. We ate upstairs, which was surprisingly quiet for being so near a main thoroughfare. The staff were great, and attentive. The only problem we had was that the tables we were at were very wobbly, which was a little frustrating.

Prime rib was excellent. The sides were great too, especially the brussel sprouts. Our server was helpful.

This restaurant was AMAZING! The food, the service, everything. I wish I lived closer so I could go more often. It is a little pricey but it's definitely worth it!

Mediocre at best. All staff is clearly seasonal, no career staff, hence some reviewers have great experience and others poor. I surmise that the kitchen staff are also not career chef/cooks. The menu is fine, but everything is executed in a below average fashion. Flavors not rich, complexity of the seasoning is just not there. Funny thing we ordered a Margherita and were asked by our server if we wanted gin or vodka....we opted for tequila. Just goes to show you the experience level is very low. Not bad, just clueless in many respects.

We enjoy the food, the staff, and the aged architecture, aesthetic of the building. Love the lasagne & the desserts!!

Tried The Tavern for the first time for my husbands birthday. When I made the reservation I asked for a quiet table / a table in the back (also put in the reservation first timers and celebrating a birthday). Unfortunately we got sat next to a party of 10, in a very small room. It got pretty loud, to the point where we could barely hear each other, so we decided to take our entrees to go. When we were walking out we saw several empty tables in quieter areas. The Crab dip appetizer was delicious, and the Shrimp & Grits are the best we’ve had in State College. Not sure if we will come back, just because our first experience wasn’t that great.

Classic icon of State College. Ambiance is elegant, service was great, food selection and quality was off from our last visit.

Great table service and food options for all types. Food was prepared well and served quickly but that's sort of table stakes. A pricey menu without the panache or high end experience and decor is a bit dated. We had a group of 7 and they seated us in 2 x 4 seat tables. Made group dinner dialog a little awkward.
