After 11 years as fiscal director of our countyâs Child Protective Services, sheâd seen, heard and felt for a lot of gnarly situations. The turnover rate in the office is high. This is for good reason.
In an attempt to mark how important this was, I went searching for the best bakery within an hour and a half of my small town. I found it. Itâs Black Cat.
Woman and LGBTQ+ owned, the instagram page proved the owner had something you canât buy - talent. Creativity. A gift.
I arrived a month early to order our 6â round, chatted with the owner, and gave her complete artist freedom (I HIGHLY suggest going this route). I went today to pick it up.
The cake I was given is otherworldly. I have never seen anything like this; not online, not in major cities, not on the 1,000 baking shows on cable TV. It doesnât seem possible.
Which is in and of itself unbelievable - but it doesnât stop there.
When my mother saw it she began to tear up, staring in disbelief for minute after minute before whispering âI canât believe itâs a cakeâ
âYour cake,â I reminded her. âYou deserve it.â
There are bakeries that are bakeries. There are cakes that are cakes. There are some that go so far as being art.
But as my mother sat across from me today and felt special, seen and joyful it occurred to me;
Sometimes theyâre even more than that.

I got my fianceâs cupcakes made here for his birthday this year and i will absolutely being coming here every year from now on. I showed them a picture of these cool cupcakes and they looked EXACTLY like the picture! Their pricing is a little higher but it is 10000% worth it for all their awesome and unique flavors. I love the girls who work there, theyâre so kind and easy to place orders with. They custom made these cupcakes also, they were able to do everything that i wanted. I also got their Apple Cider Donut & Blueberry Muffin macaroons and they were fantastic! They have lots of unique desserts to choose from and great staff! Would HIGHLY recommend.

Our guests had nothing but compliments on both the design and flavor of our cake, and Iâm already looking forward to eating it again for our first anniversary even if it risks being freezer burned đ You can tell that the staff here really loves what they do, and they put their hearts into their desserts and creations.
