Fantastic restaurant that's consistently great. The food, atmosphere and staff are all excellent. And their crab cakes are truly THE BEST! Reservations recommended for evening dining.

Having lived on both coasts and dined in many fine seafood restaurants across the country, I was appalled with the food and the level of service we received. Wilted lettuce, crab cakes that were minuscule and strange sauces that didn't pair well with seafood in the least. I feel sad for anyone in Western PA that believes this restaurant serves decent, let alone good food.

Hi, I made this reservation several weeks in advance and couldn't get into the proper dining room, but sat on the patio, which was OK. The biggest problem I had was I told them when I made the reservation that we were celebrating an anniversary and two birthdays and when we got there, I also said to our server, Bill, that we were celebrating two birthdays and an anniversary no acknowledgment no will bring you a piece of dessert with a candle in it nothing and I was really surprised. The caliber of off the hook usually respects when there is a celebration. It is not that I didn't spend a lot of money. I spent almost $250 on the dinner for three of us and it would've been nice if it would've been acknowledged with at least a happy birthday cake or pastry or whatever
Everything from the appetizer to main course were delicious! I can see why this is such a popular spot. Seafood was fresh, service impeccable, wonderful wine list. We will definitely be back!
We read that this place was a go to restaurant. And it proved without a doubt it was the best at everything especially our server Steve and his service staff. We each had a specialty cocktail and both were fantastic. Between courses normally the management usually pushes the food, however at Off the Hook, they gave us time to settle through to the next course. This is a first class experience. We already have plans to go back in the next week with friends of ours. The menu is highly detailed yet very informative. We had a chance to talk with a couple sitting next to us. Off the Hook is a superb establishment with everything going for them. So happy we tried it out even though it's over an hour away; it won't stop us from going back even the slightest.
This is the second time we have had dinner at Off the Hook. Both the ambiance and food was excellent and the service was both knowledgeable, professional and friendly. Thank you again for another wonderful evening.
Swordfish appetizer was delicious and the Mediterranean salad was outstanding! I got the Trout almondine, which was very good. Carrot cake for dessert with caramel ice cream was yummy.
The red fish is excellent; my husband and I both got it, one blackened, one vera cruz. Our server, Christine, was fantastic.
This place is 5 stars consistently. Hands down it's the most incredible seafood in Pittsburgh. The classy ambiance, personal service, and inventive specials have made this a go-to for special occasions. Highly recommend the oysters, chillean sea bass, and chocolate mousse cake pops!

Restaurantji Recommends
We have frequented this place many times, coming perpetually for valentines and our anniversaries. Every experience has been phenomenal and we always recommend as one of the top restaurants in Pittsburgh. After last night, that won’t be the case. Our service was extremely slow. We waited over 10 minutes for our first glass of water after being told by the server twice that they would be back with water. We got only one glass of wine because the service took forever and we were never offered another glass. Our food was cold when it came to the table and the vegetables tasted like frozen vegetables that were heated on a pan. Not sure if management or the chef changed but this was definitely a 180 from past experiences. Our server was very attentive with the two tables behind us and we felt like an afterthought. Even one of the bussers asked us if we needed anything or more water and was at our table as much as the server which is a problem. Furthermore, and not that we expect a handout, we received a complimentary dessert for our last anniversary and not this time around. For spending over $250, spending a full 2 hours there not by choice, and it being our anniversary, we are extremely disappointed.

We went to Off the Hook for our anniversary and were greeted accordingly. Our seats were ready and we were promptly seated. Our server came by and greeted us and told us about the specials as we looked through the menus. My wife and I had a cosmo and glass of white while and ordered Oysters and a crab cake as appetizers, both were presented very nicely and both were quite tasty. Next, we ordered the cheese crusted halibut and red snapper and both were well-prepared and quite tasty. We concluded the evening with the flourless chocolate and carrot cake which both were nicely presented and delicious as well. If someone is looking for fresh seafood around Pittsburgh I would recommend going.
The service and food were both excellent. I highly recommend a visit for any occasion, or because you just want to do something special!
We have been here multiple times- it’s our go-to for celebrations - and it seems to be going downhill. The staff is always super friendly. But the service the last 2 times was super slow. We waited at least 40 minutes between our appetizer and our meal.
The food… we had the combination appetizer and it was yummy. It came out hot and everything was cooked perfectly. When our dinners finally arrived, we were super disappointed to see the “jumbo sea scallops” were tiny and very clearly not sea scallops. They were the size of a nickel and rubbery. We couldn’t decide if they were overcooked or bad because they were lower quality. The crabmeat on top was good. But there was so much buttery sauce all over everything, it kinda of ruined even the crab meat. And nothing was hot - everything was just like warm. Really disappointing.

The atmosphere was really enjoyable, the service obviously was very well done. However, I ordered the mi Mai with the macadamian crust, it was overdone. The nuts were actually burnt. Had a hard time eating any of it and the server didn't come in enough time to send it back.
The vegetable medley fell extremely short. It was probably the worst vegetable medley I ever had. The squash was sliced so thin that it kind of turned the mush and it didn't even taste well. My husband fish was delicious, my son's dish was okay, however the teriyaki was very overpowering. The onion soup was delicious.. and the crab cake was good. I'm 50/50 if I would go back and spend that kind of money again and take a chance of having another bad entree
