I went to this Haitian spot in wilkes barreIt said meat and 2 side for $20.. I brought it than I realized I didn't have my sides . I said excuse me I think I'm missing the 2 sides. The guy at the front counter said rice and beans are your 2 sides lolNeedless to say I'm not going back!Definitely not real Haitian food and the place needed cleaning.Next time I'm going next door to the REAL Jamaican restaurant. Lol

Visited multiple times and I enjoy the griot but the last time we ordered the rice was overly hot with pepper. In response to the owner! Most restaurants provide decent customer service during the grand opening of their business therefore I hold out on a review. I did mention enjoying the griot but after reviewing your feedback towards customer who didn’t have a wonderful experience I’m seeing a lot of sarcasm in your responses towards customers who ultimately determine the success of your business. I will order again and request the rice without the hot pepper since it’s an available option. Thank you for your feedback.

I ordered rice and beans with stewed goat, the rice wasn’t to bad. But the stewed goat was utterly disgusting, it lacked seasoning and it was nothing but fat. If I was able to rate zero I would do so. Waste of money and definitely not authentic Haitian food

Mandy’s is the true definition of fresh food. Food is always made to order. Great customer service. I recommend trying the stew goat (seen in picture), fried goat, legumes, black bean purée, cassava leaf. Always a happy customer. Will definitely be back! Food hits every spot!

The food was terrible. Small portions, lacking seasoning, and the chicken was literally boiled with seasoning, not made the traditional Haitian way. When we asked for more rice, we were told to wait while the defrost it from the freezer. Absolutely ridiculous. The food was flavorless and we waited almost two hours for a simple order of black rice, fried fish and griot. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO ELSEWHERE

I'm always searching out new restaurants in the area, and there was a recent newspaper article about Mandy's Kitchen opening up nearby, so I knew I had to get there eventually. The gods must have been looking down on me, because I hit Mandy's on the right day when they were offering one of my favorite meats...GOAT!It was mid-afternoon, so I was the only one present (in between the lunch and dinner rushes). Mandy and her husband (I believe) were eating dinner themselves, and as I was looking over the menu, she said "Why don't you try some of what we're having?". After a quick taste, I was hooked.Dinner consisted of Legumes and White Rice...and in this instance, the meat choice was goat (you may be able to choose your meat; goat, chicken, pork, etc...ask). Additionally, Mandy also brought out a cup of black rice and beans (it may have been "dirty" rice and beans...not sure if they are the same thing or not), and wanted to know which tasted better with the legume dish. Go with the white rice, as it is naturally bland and will soak up the juices better. This particular dish was medium spicy, but not so much that it will burn a hole in your stomach. And it was LOADED with goat! As best I could make out, the base of the legumes was shredded cabbage...other than that, I'm not sure....but it tasted DYNAMITE!I always enjoy the opportunity, when it presents itself, to talk to the owner/chef at length. Mandy and I spoke for probably at least a half hour...telling me about her former forays in cooking, her family, her hopes for this new restaurant... C'mon Wilkes-Barre, don't let us down! Mandy's Kitchen is housed in the former location of the Indian restaurant Lett's Eat...so now the area is without an Indian restaurant. Don't let this happen again. Frequent Mandy's!After awhile, she goes "You're like family now", and proceeded to give me a "behind the scenes" look in to the making of one of her fish dishes. She pull out this fish in a container that was all spiced up, and gave me the scoop on how she prepares her fish and fish stew.Next time, she said I had to try a dish called Haitian Akra/Accra, or Malanga Fritters. The base may be similar to the yucca root, mixed with spices, and then deep fried. I CAN NOT WAIT!As others have said, the food is top-notch, and the owner personable as anything, and pure joy to talk to. I really felt like I was having dinner at someones house...and that's the best that can be said about any restaurant experience. Thanks Mandy. Can't wait for the fritters!

My husband and I found this restaurant last night on a Google search because we were craving Haitian food, and we went there for the first time. Perfect restaurant if you are looking for Haitian food, lots of great options to choose from. Very nice and friendly owners. The food was delicious and made fresh. Great location, comfortable atmosphere. It felt like we were back in Haiti for dinner. We loved it. We definitely would recommend giving this restaurant a try.
