Had dinner at John Ryan's last evening. We were seated in the tavern (per our reservation request) which is below the main dining area. It's a quiet and dark room with stone walls and exposed beam ceiling. Made for a cozy atmosphere. Our server, Kylee, presented us with menus and took our drink orders. I was thirsty for their Limoncello Martini, but also curious about their latest brew called a Dandelion Ale and asked for a taster of that. Our drinks arrived and the ale was delicious. Crisp with a slight citrus edge. To me, it would be a perfect summer beverage. My martini was sublime - the limoncello lended a perfect combo to the gin. So much so that I had two that evening.Appetizer of our choice were the Bao Buns. Hubby was a bit hesitant but that didn't last long. The soft pillowy steamed buns holding tender seasoned pork, pickle, cilantro, and a spiked mayo gave just the right kick and had us both wishing for more.Mains were just as delicious. The curry pork katsu for me hit the spot. Battered and fried thinly sliced pork over rice with carrots and potatoes complete with a delicious curried Japanese sauce drizzled over everything. The pork melted in my mouth and the whole dish was just incredible.Hubby got one of his favorite dishes, the duck confit, and it definitely did not disappoint. Fall off the bone tender. He completely cleaned his plate! We were curious about dessert and decided to go for it. Irish apple cake and a Bailey's cheesecake - both specials for St. Patrick's Day. I have to say that dessert was the least favorite of our meal. The piece of cake was quite small - two bites and it was basically gone. The cheesecake was interesting. Good flavor and creamy but the crust seemed off. Almost like it had been burned with a cooking torch as it gave off a burnt sugar flavor and the color was quite black. Not sure if it was intentional and I failed to question it. Instead I just scooped out the filling and left the crust on my plate.........BUT! This didn't matter because we fell in love with the place and the food (other than dessert) has us wanting to return. We both saw other plates on the menu that we want to try and we'll definitely be back. The atmosphere and service alone were outstanding. It's a beautiful building and establishment and we look forward to our next visit. One further note - not sure if there is a parking lot nearby but we were able to park along the street just steps from the front door.

It’s SO nice to have this amazing restaurant in a small town like Williamsport. Food is always delicious, thoughtfully planned, and unique. You can’t get these types of elevated flavor profiles and takes on cuisine in many other places around here. Option to get a lot of food or smaller tapas plates which I enjoy bc I love trying a bunch of different small bites. Drinks are fantastic (esp love the Earl). Service is friendly and efficient. Really great atmosphere on all 3 levels. Great for watching the World Cup, date night, or brunch with friends. Love this place and try to find any excuse to go eat and drink there often. Thanks!

We had a delicious evening as a family of 3 for our first meal here. The menu is a great addition to the area bringing unfamiliar flavors to the region and done very well. There is strong Japanese influence on this menu and it’s done very well. We had the tofu hot app as well as their fries. Both very tasty. For meals we had the filet-my son loved it, the salmon-well prepared and Bibimbap-not easily found in the area-very well done! We also had the bread with our meal. Everything was exquisite and a welcome addition to the community.

Excellent beer, spectacular service, devine cocktails... What is there not to love? Just being in this beautiful building has been such a treat. I definitely recommend this fine establishment to everyone and anyone.Vegetarian options: With the venue changing so frequently; just ask the servers and they will double check with the kitchen to accommodate for any dietary restrictions. There is always an option in each category.Dietary restrictions: Per request they are able to accommodate all restrictions. Depending on the season depends on what will be available for their limited menus. So just ask.Wheelchair accessibility: Handicapped parking in the back of the building grants access to the main dining floor. There are dining floors upstairs; and the tavern in the basement. If you call ahead to let them know your needs they can seat you accordingly.

The first time we ate at John Ryan it was excellent from the offerings, preparation, presentation, and wait staff. Unfortunately, the next two times we ate there, the food was mediocre and overpriced. I had the shrimp and grits special which the wait staff raved about and said the chef had lived in the south and brought the recipe back. I was expecting something incredible. it totally missed the mark. The other food was just ok. We will try it again, and hope to have an experience like our first.

First off, I just want to say that I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while ever since my friend posted a picture of their food. Tonight, my bf took me here for my birthday this month and it was everything that I thought it El would be and more!I love the art work on the walls and the crystal chandeliers. It’s a very beautiful place. The food and beer was SO good. I love the Japanese and Asian items, as I am in love with Japanese culture. It was worth the price and I’m so glad I went.Thank you so much.

Great spot. Weird that I didn’t try any beers and the place is a brewery but everything I had was very good. William the bartender was friendly, made a great Manhattan, and recommended good wines for my dinner. The curried beef gyoza was friggin amazing! Seriously it’s worth coming here just for that but I think they said they’ll replace it soon as they update their menu often. ??‍♂️ I had two orders myself for dinner. The lobster bao bun was very good but needed just a bit of salt. Very tasty though. Everything was well done. The place is super cool, too, set in a historic old house and decorated really well with a modern chic thing going on.Very worth coming to this place for drinks, dinner or both.

The best meal I had in a long, long time. Beer, appetizer, main course, dessert, and service was 10 out of10. Highly recommend. The above is a short review. A short review does not do JRB justice.According to our server, who was chocked full of information and interesting tidbits, this is a familyowned/operated business. The chef and pastry chef are husband and wife. The brewer and his motherwork here. I am sure there are other connections that I am unaware of. There is no doubt theemployees share the “All In” concept at JRB. Besides her knowledge of the business and the building herknowledge of the menu was remarkable. The building and renovations that have been done will be the first indication your visit to JRB will be fewnotches above normal. If you appreciate craftsmanship and history, you will love this place. Iunderstand the owners and several current JRB employees participated in the restoration. Their talentsare not limited to the kitchen. There is a small brewery on site. Wine and cocktails are available and normally we would have winewith a meal of this caliber, but the quality of the beer brewed here made it an easy decision to havebeer over wine.As I stated this was the best meal I have had in a long, long time. The pasta was house made, theseafood was fresh and tasted as you would expect seafood to taste. The portion was more than Ianticipated but I managed to finish it. Dessert, house made vanilla cheesecake with a fresh peachtopping. Sinfully good.A word of caution, do not get committed to one particular dish on the menu. We hear the chef changesthe menu regularly. Another indication the chef is confident in his abilities and talent.Although we are not local to Williamsport, we look forward to returning. We shall see if a two-hour tripis insane for a meal.

Excellent Brewery and dining. There is plenty of seating and outdoor seating.Keeping the old with a touch of new renovation adds a great appeal.Downstairs tavern gives a feeling of the old prohibition period. This is 5 stars, for nothing is equal in the area. The elegance is unique and a true hidden gem. Menus change every 8 weeks.Be shore to say hi to the owners, and you saw it here on Google Maps.
