Visited while staying in Williamsport this past weekend.Located in lower part of a beautiful City Hall Grand Hotel this restaurant has wonderful atmosphere. Our waiter was wonderful on a slow evening. Main course of tuna & jasmine rice was beautiful presented and tasty. However, appetizers were a little underwhelming ...the halibut bites and honey sriracha were dry and shrimp & spinach grilled flat bread ...the flat bread was maybe under cooked .....

We enjoyed a stop in the speakeasy bar and restaurant! Great service in both. Had the tuna bites, calamari (one of the best), scallops and pork chop. All outstanding!!! Scallops top notch. Chef Juan came out to greet us, so that was a nice touch. Stop in and enjoy a wonderful meal!

We stopped in for a pre-dinner drink and the caramel apple cider martini was delicious! My hubby enjoyed the strawberry wheat beer on tap. Atmosphere is warm and hip and there are interesting era pieces decorating the walls.

My husband and I stopped at Williamsport to spend the night and get something to eat before continuing our journey north the next day. We were hungry and still in our traveling clothes. We noticed the sign for the Newsroom Grill and Spirits beneath where we were staying. Very convenient! We got out of the elevator and could see the inside of the restaurant through the glass door. It was beautiful and it looked fancy and very nice! At that time Chef Juan saw us and asked if we were going in. We weren't sure because it looked so beautiful inside we thought we were under dressed. He was very friendly and said "Not at all". He opened the door for us. He introduced us to Taysia who seated us. Her welcoming smile impressed us. Chef Juan told us that he took over the restaurant four weeks prior. He seemed very happy about that. Then Chad came to our table and introduced himself. He was wonderful and very helpful as he guided us through dinner. My husband loves steak. Chad said the cuts of steak that Chef Juan purchases are of a very high standard. Paul said that this was the best steak he ever had! And so the evening went along very pleasantly. I got the halibut and thoroughly enjoyed it along with the asparagus. The presentation of our dinners was amazing from the homemade bread and appetizers to the main course and dessert. Chef Juan even came out to touch base with us and see if everything was to our liking. We were so impressed that we canceled our reservations for the return trip so that we could come back to Williamsport and stay at City Hall and have dinner at The Newsroom Grill and Spirits again! When we went back, Jill was our server. She was very accommodating, we enjoyed her conversation and advice. We loved seeing Taysia and Chef Juan again, it was another great night!

From the moment we walked in! We were greeted by Chef Juan himself as we were contemplating if we were underdressed after seeing the table settings. Chef Juan was so gracious and inviting, even offering us his Chef's Table! We were welcomed and seated by Taysia and served by Chad who was energetic and helpful in making our selections. The atmosphere was awesome with actual newspaper clips adorning the walls with some history of Williamsport from a local point of view. And then there was our meal. I am a fairly old man so when I say I've eaten a lot of NY Strip I mean a whole lot! I had the best NY Strip I have ever had, bar none! Chef Juan was not only gracious and welcoming but is an excellent chef! I wish we lived closer! Chef Juan has been here for just over a month and, I think, he will make this a premier spot to go for the best dining experience in the area!

The Newsroom is open again, and we had a really nice dinner here (Oct 21). We had the calamari as an appetizer, and the Tomahawk steak for two and the scallops for entrees. Both very tasty.

Decided to take an overnight trip with the BF and stay at City Hall Grand Hotel - already starting strong with the gorgeous rooms. Headed downstairs for some drinks in the Blind Tiger lounge about an hour before close. The lounge itself is gorgeous - small space with industrial vibes and red seating. The bartender was very charismatic and informative, and welcomed us with a caramel apple martini (with almost 3 shots of alcohol but it tasted like 0!!!) as the special for the night. She was very obviously skilled in bartending, and continued to make amazing drinks and shots the rest of the night. We also ordered from the Newsroom kitchen the pumpkin creme brûlée… DELECTABLE! The sugar topping was an amazing amount of crunch, and pumpkin not overpowering. So sweet to see that the staff already had a team bond from their time working together at another establishment before moving here.Definitely a hidden treasure!Parking: Parking is available on location for individuals staying at the hotel. Metered street parking is also available.

We were traveling through and had hoped to book a room at the City Hall Grand Hotel. That didn’t happen, but we ventured down the stairs for some casual dining. We stumbled into opening night. Chef Juan’s food made our evening an unforgettable fine dining experience! The scallops and haddock were perfection, and the pumpkin creme brulee was fantastic. Chef Juan greeted each customer. Staff was friendly and helpful. We wish everyone the best! We would come back again! Karl and Laima
