We just celebrated our Dover Area High School graduate this past Saturday (5/31/25) at the Roosevelt Tavern, and everything—from the food to the atmosphere to the service—was absolutely FANTASTIC.

What made the day even more meaningful is the personal connection we have with this place. The father of my children, Edward “Peewee” Green, was a chef here many years ago under the previous owner, Bob Schimmel. Sadly, he passed away in November of 2012. Though my kids were only 4 and 5 years old at the time, many patrons still fondly remember him and speak so highly of his time at the Roosevelt.

What we didn’t expect—what truly left us speechless—was the incredible gesture from the current owner. Unbeknownst to us, he had held onto one of Peewee’s old chef coats for the past 15 years, and he gifted it to our graduate during the celebration. That thoughtful, deeply touching act gave our kids a priceless piece of their father’s legacy—a physical connection to a man they’ve heard so much about, but lost too soon.

We are forever grateful for that moment. It meant the world to me and to our family. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Food and service are both really good and they have a parking lot even though in downtown York.

Every Meal here is a experience for the taste buds. My family loves the tried and true recipes that are always on their menu but we also enjoy the new specials they cook up. And the amazing desserts that they serve. I have never had a bad meal here and just enjoy everytime we go.

We had an excellent Easter dinner at the Roosevelt Tavern. It was a buffet with New York strip steak, Ham, Shrimp and much more. It was so nice sitting down at a table with a tablecloth (white) and cotton napkins. Thanks for keeping that much missed detail alive. Dessert were also top notch. Lemon Blueberry cake was the best I've ever tasted. Finally the service was excellent. Very attention and knowledgeable on menu.

Maddie was an angel 😇 Best Customer Service ever. Hard to beat. I told her I was allergic to pork products. She went out of the way to figure out cross contamination to protect me. Thank you

Food was tasty and well prepared. The jalapeño jelly on the sandwich buns was unique and great tasting.

The place is a gem.

The host was a young man who was also very polite.

It may not be possible but if you own a restaurant, come learn from this owner. This is how you run a place and hire great people

Byron is incredible! I'm gluten and garlic allergic and he never ceases to amaze me by making my meal superb, as close to the regular menu as possible with beautiful presentation and delicious!! Wow! The short rib, filet and red beet salad are my favorites.

Food is excellent. Not huge portions, but flavorful and presented well. Be prepared to spend $$$$

Been going here for years for special occasions. Took my daughter and son in law who is a total foodie. Byron and his whole staff hit it out of the park. He said it was the best meal he had ever eaten in the US. We all got different things (lamb, filet, and pasta) and loved them all. Consensus was I won with the filet.

Dinner was a total scam. The bacon wrapped scallop appetizer was advertised as being U/12 scallops. That means fewer than 12 scallops per pound. The largest scallops available. These were TINY. It looked like it would take 30 or 40 to make a pound. Ridiculous for the money. Also, the stuffed shrimp entree was PATHETIC. $38 for four little salad shrimp, half the size of my pinky finger, and a disgusting little mushy lump of shredded crabmeat. The menu advertised it as being four shrimp with a jumbo lump crab cake. It was NOT lump crab meat. It was disgusting. And for $38, it was barely four bites of food. Between dinner and cocktails for two people, I spent $200, and we left starving. Don't eat here. Go to a nice place.
