By The River Bakery & Cafe

Would not recommend this place to anyone. It was good 2 years back but now it's worse. I tried their pancakes in breakfast which didn't have any flavor. Then in evening I tried their cake and pie which was too bad not fresh at all. Their were spiderwebs also. Only the view is amazing.

For a little dinner in the middle of nowhere the atmosphere was very pleasant. A little Asian lady I assume owns it was very helpful and friendly.
The fish and chips were absolutely delicious 😋

Went in for the first time to get a loaf of homemade bread. Asked if it was fresh and the owner or whoever the guy was offended by the question and answered “yes”. The bread was stale, dried out and tasteless. Passing off old stock as new is a cheap trick. Will never go back.

I had breakfast at By the River Diner in Hunter River, and it was hands down the worst dining experience I’ve ever had.

Yes, the service was fast — but the meal looked and tasted like it was thrown together by a two-year-old. The toast was stale, the eggs were overcooked, the food was completely bland, and the homefries were forgotten. The server didn’t even apologize for the mistake, which only made things worse. To top it off, the coffee cup wasn’t even full when it was served.

The so-called “deluxe breakfast” was also misleading. The menu made it sound like bacon, sausage, and bologna were included, but only after ordering did we learn it was actually “choice of.” That kind of false advertising is unacceptable.

By the end, I was so frustrated and angry that I left without paying — and honestly, who would want to pay for stale, poorly cooked food paired with careless service?

Save yourself the disappointment and go literally anywhere else for breakfast.

If zero stars was an option, they would hit every one!

I honestly feel sick now.

Went there really hungry and left with the most delicious homemade chocolate chip pancakes to fill my stomach. The food was fresh and the restaurant was in an amazing location with outdoor seating and the perfect view to enjoy brunch definitely recommend this place for anyone who goes to hunter river

Had lobster roll ..Served on a homemade hamburger bun but more mayo for filler than actual lobster. Didn't seem to be fresh fries either. $23.00 .

Was going to go there today. On our way we caught a glimpse of so much garbage/boxes. Immediately turned off going in. If garbage isn’t stored properly I can only assume the sanitary of the business. Such a sin as it is a beautiful location.

The food was good, but the atmosphere was not. If the air conditioners were running they weren't running well, and for some reason an employee felt it appropriate to have a very loud speakerphone conversation in Chinese a couple tables away while we were trying to eat our lunch 😬

Great service and great outdoor patio. Got the lobster roll, and there was hardly any lobster in the roll; same with the chowder— which was disappointing.

The food was good. Our server was very nice and there was a nice atmosphere. Dirty dishes were left on two tables outside and my bun wasn’t warm. Other than that it was very good.

This was close to where we were staying and one of the more affordable peeve in all of Canada. We had the lobster roll and lobster soup. Both were very good.

I am not one to ever write reviews, but I hope to save someone else from wasting their time and money here. Me and my partner stopped here for breakfast this morning. The service was absolutely terrible, and the food was inedible. Just sitting at the table looking around, the place is filthy, and I wish we would’ve left as soon as we walked in, but we figured we would give it the benefit of the doubt. The case at the counter that holds the baked goods looks like it hasn’t been cleaned or washed since it was put on the counter (along with everything else here 🤢). I am not an establishment expert, but I feel like this place would be shut down due to lack of cleanliness alone. I don’t understand all of the 5 star reviews here, and whole heartedly agree with those who took the time to leave their 1 star reviews. I wish we would’ve looked at them ahead of time. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere!
