“We had a gorgeous meal here tonight, in a restaurant seemingly full of locals. The food was good quality local food, so really good fish (we had sea bass and a stew of shrimps and bread). Starters were good too, a fresh salad and a stuffed mushroom dish. The setting is nice, clean and modern, and the staff were great, including a waiter who spoke excellent English which we appreciated. We were really glad to have stepped out of our hotel and found this restaurant.“

My heart sank however when the beer tap gurgled its last just as we ordered and the barmaid advised that there was none left. Fortunately we found a bar across the road that was open, but I must say that my first impressions of Pinhao were very negative. The following evening, everything was open and I had to laugh when the barmaid gave me a cheeky smile and assured me that she had some beer on tap.
