Vegetarian Restaurants near Amarante

“Ask for a "torrada com manteiga vegetal", they know what vegan means. The bread is amazing. Also the freshly pressed orange juice. They have plant milk for your coffee and tea. During the week they have a changing vegetarian lunch. Some of the meals seem to be vegan as well.“

“Today for lunch was my first time at Cancela Velha. It was busy but no waiting, seated immediately. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Was with my brother and our Portuguese language teacher. We all ordered the soup (nabissa), breads and olives and cheese appetizers, bacalhau cakes, daily special (pescado and arroz com gelho). Appetizers, soup, and daily fish and rice specials were delicious. I particularly enjoyed the rice. We ordered some traditional deserts, natas de ceu, pudin, bolo traditional. Deserts were delicious especially the natas de ceu. We ordered an apple turnover to take home for our mom. Our server said “warm it slightly and serve with ice cream”, which of course we did. Our mom is 92 and she has tried a lot of apple turnovers in her 9+ decades, and she said “this is the best I have tasted, get more next time please.” Overall an excellent experience and since we are now locals, we will be back again!“
