“Adega Avelino was love at first sight and easily became my favorite space in Vizela! Decor appropriate to the space, attentive, courteous service, available without being intrusive. Homemade cuisine (but real…) fresh ingredients of excellent quality and a fair price compared to what is on offer. I recommend visiting this space, with the certainty that despite not being from Vizela, I will return!“

“I've been eating here since I was a child. But in fact, I hadn't eaten it for probably over a year. I ate it again and it was truly divine. I ordered a homemade pizza, and its flavor is unmistakable. And thank you very much to the service and the workers for their friendliness and kindness in the work they do and with the customers.“

“It was not our first time when this restaurant was “on our radar”, as we visited the region one year before, and wanted to try it out. At that time, my girlfriend felt like the menu was focusing too much on fish, and I can fairly say that, one year later, wow, was she wrong :).
The location itself, whilst not very impressive from the outside, is very cozy and well designed on the inside, just perfect for a relaxed, yet memorable dining experience. The staff was very attentive and their English was spot on (I am Portuguese, but my girlfriend prefers English, so all of the dishes were explained and presented accordingly).
It’s not by chance that one of the menus was called the “Balanced” menu, as for us - who like fine dining, and are no strangers to 1 star Michelin restaurants, especially in Portugal - it was, perhaps, the most perfectly combined set of dishes we ever had.
Chef Antonio Loureiro succeeded in designing the menu in such an incredible way, that every dish (and I do not exaggerate when saying EVERY dish) was as tasty as it comes. The flavors, the attention to detail, but most importantly, the selection of ingredients, were the things that impressed us most. Looking back, it was hard to pick just one dish that stood out…because we liked them all.
We highly recommend this place, as it’s one of those hidden gems, which you should not miss, if you’re a foodie!“

“S. Gião in Guimarães is a culinary masterpiece! This exceptional restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. The pasta with shrimps was cooked to perfection, with succulent shrimp and a flavorful sauce. The tiramisu was creamy and divine, and the mushrooms were tender and expertly prepared. But the real surprise was the Smashed Eggs in appetizers - a game-changer!
Every single dish was top-notch, with fresh ingredients, precise technique, and presentation that was almost too beautiful to eat. Almost.
The service was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home.
S. Gião is a must-visit for anyone in Guimarães looking for an exceptional dining experience. Don't miss out on their outstanding pasta, tiramisu, mushrooms, and Smashed Eggs - your taste buds will thank you!
Highly recommend S. Gião for a truly unforgettable meal in Guimarães. Book your table now and get ready for a culinary journey!“

“Another great (veggie) lunch in guimaraes. We had the pasta with veggie balls and they were excellent! The service was very friendly. We visited with our little 3 month girl and it was a little noisy and we could not lie her down (no benches), but that did not ruin our experience. The service offered us a baby chair, but she can not sit yet. Thank you for the great food!“

“We were four people and we did very well.
The choice fell on the Minho and Douro white wine menu.
The four-course menu is always the chef's choice and is only known when they arrive at the table.
The initial bread, crunchy, with sourdough, presided over by well-chosen olive oil and butter with… octopus roe, all received top marks.
Excellence dominated all the dishes, the soup, the fish, the meat and the final sweets, without exception. It is not important to describe them as they will not be the same on a subsequent visit.
The finish was enriched with variations of the abbey of Priscos and petit-gateaux with carrot, again with top marks.
Very professional service.
Very pleasant atmosphere on a Sunday when only one other table was occupied.
To revisit on a special day.“

“I had the pleasure of dining at Quinta da Lama, a former olive oil mill that has been transformed into a delightful restaurant. The place exudes a cozy and rustic charm, with clay pots and vintage stone adorning the dining room. The menu offers a wide range of dishes, from traditional Portuguese cuisine to Mediterranean and European influences. I opted for the “posta à lagar”, a succulent tenderloin steak cooked in olive oil and garlic, and the cod with cornbread, a classic Portuguese dish that was moist and flavorful. Both dishes were exquisite and prepared with fresh and quality ingredients. The salads and bread were also very good. For dessert, I indulged in the “leite creme”, a creamy custard with a caramelized crust. It was heavenly, one of the best I ever had. I also enjoyed the house wine, a local red wine that complemented the food perfectly. The service was impeccable and attentive, and the prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. I had a splendid time at Quinta da Lama and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic and satisfying dining experience in Amarante.“

“Excellent restaurant at all levels. From welcoming customers to farewell. Always attentive and incredibly friendly and helpful. The food is great and with very generous portions. “Attention and waiting times to be served perfect. Nothing to say either about the food, very delicious.
The only drawback that the place has for me and for which I do not give 5 stars is that in practically all the dishes the price is given based on weight (for example steak €40/kilo). This means that you don't really know what the price of a portion is and that when you get the bill you don't know if they are charging you right or wrong since you never know the weight of the piece that has been served to you. It is a topic that I did not like at all since it is always up to the restaurant to charge you one price or another since no one tells you what is the weight of the piece that they are going to serve you. Very limited menu and practically all dishes priced at €40 - €45/kilo.“

“I rarely say that a restaurant is really 5 stars, but this really is one of them.
The atmosphere inside the restaurant leaves something to be desired, so we sat outside, which is beautiful. We were served with great friendliness, the food was EXCEPTIONAL (ask for the cover charge, the butter is made there!), the passion fruit, mango and orange sangria was one of the best I've ever had. The tiramisu is also homemade and delicious. Experience to repeat, without a shadow of a doubt“

“Without a doubt our best meal in 11 days in Portugal. Lively, warm interior. We were greeted immediately by management and staff as we were shown to our table. Service was spot on. And I do mean spot on. Each tapa we ordered was excellent as was the sangria. Excellent wine list. Great value for money. Rio's was booked solid so be sure to make a reservation. We prefer places with local "vibe" and local customers; Rio's on the night we were there was filled with Americans like us. Still, a first class experience. Would return without hesitation.“

“The restaurant offers a very pleasant atmosphere, ideal for family gatherings without noise or confusion. The staff is friendly and attentive. The starters are well prepared, including paladinhos, pataniscas, octopus, cod, alheira puff pastry, vegetable puff pastry and ham. The Spanish-style cod accompanied by stewed potatoes and Douro red wine made the meal perfect. The burnt cream milk dessert, despite not being homemade, complemented with coffee ended the experience. “One of the best local restaurants for traditional Portuguese food. Starters are really tasty, with plenty of choices. The main dishes are very flavorful, very reminiscent of traditional Portuguese food. The same goes for the desserts, where you have your typical creme brulee, cookie cake, etc. all very well prepared and with a nice balance of flavors. The staff is very funny and welcoming! And the atmosphere is a nice balance between a traditional tavern and a cozy elegant restaurant. I really liked it, and can only recommend the Naco Folhado and Cookies Cake in the pictures :)
Vegetarian options: You Will not find many (or any) vegetarian options in the menu, but I'm pretty sure if you call in advance they will prepare something for you, a friend or a relative one.“
