“Today I decided to have lunch at Restaurante Chapéu Preto in Freguesia da Carvoeira, close to Ericeira and belonging to the Municipality of Mafra.
This restaurant stands out for its homemade preparation of traditional Portuguese dishes and also for its simple, informal atmosphere and efficient service.
In this space, some Full Menu dishes are served for €11 or €12.50 with dessert, but my choice was Polvo à Lagareiro, a dish that is not on the menus.
For starters came Bread, Olives and Sotonisa Dry Cheese. For main and as I already mentioned I decided on Polvo à Lagareiro, Tender Octopus, tasty, well grilled and drizzled with hot olive oil, came accompanied by Potato à Murro and a Mixed Salad on the side.
I accompanied the meal with 1/2 liter of House Red Wine (which could have been better) and finished with a Clara and Cinnamon Pie, well served and tasty. Meal costs around €24 per person, but if you order a dish from the menu it can be reduced to just over half.“

“Basic cafe with a lovely view overlooking the beach. Food options are basic but orange juice is freshly pressed and the pastel de nata is great and staff is friendly. A nice spot to grab a coffee with a view. (note that the atmosphere rating is for the view rather than the interior decor :))“

“A really lovely late lunch/early dinner. Sat outside and had a great time. We got piri piri prawns, breaded cuttlefish, bruschetta, sautéed mushrooms, honey sausage - would recommend all of those! Sangria was great and we tried the port too. The service was excellent, very kind people and felt like a very authentic experience and opportunity to learn more about Sintra. It’s about 5 minutes from the station so ideal for the start or end of a day trip. Also, they have soft blankets if it feels a little chilly. A highlight of our holiday and a meal we won’t forget!“

“They offered us a set menu for €22.50 per person. Everything was very good. We started with a fried chorizo and some delicious padrón peppers accompanied by good bread.
Next they brought us two plates with picaña, one for each of us, a cabbage salad, white rice, beans and French fries. On a hot stone we could cook the meat to taste. Everything was tasty and we enjoyed it very much. He gave us the option to repeat whatever we wanted, but we were full.
For dessert, spectacular apple and condensed milk cake and almond cake with vanilla ice cream.
Everything is great and the attention is great! Super recommended!!“

“Sehr tolles Strandrestaurant. Freundliche Bedienung mit großer und leckerer Speisenauswahl. Die Weinkarte ist hervorzuheben. Für ein Strandlokal angenehme Musikbeschallung. Man kann auch vor dem eigentlichen Lokal in angenehmer Atmosphäre an Holzstühlen und -tischen Platz nehmen. Die sanitären Einrichtungen sind sehr gut. Insgesamt empfehlenswert.“

“Lovely restaurant tucked into a beautiful street in Colares, Portugal. Our dining companion had the tasty Shrimp soup and we had the fresh fish entrees. We had a wonderful leisurely lunch with wine and good companions. This spot has a serene vibe with beautiful food and scenery.“

“Sintra is rammed with tourists - even in October when we visited. Villa Craft Beer and Bread was like a sea of calm amidst the chaos. Just off the main street, we had a relaxed beer (my wife had Jasmin, I had Ginger) and delicious mini pizzas. Would definitely recommend. Updated from previous review on 2024-10-28“

“If you’re looking for a genuine, lovely, local place to eat, search no further. This is the place you’re looking for . Extremely friendly, quaint little restaurant with hearty food and great house wine (I tried the white). It is really small and thus cozy and the staff is attentive and well meaning. You will find yourself immediately at home here. Additionally, they broadcast sports on their (discreet but present) screens indoors and out in the street. You can grab a stool outside and watch the match while you relish a plate of pimientos al padron with a nice cold draft. Yeah… recommend !“

“I had a simply stunning lunch, starting with the service which was excellent, the chef's touch of refinement in the presentation of the starters and desserts was divine.
Everything was very good, from the preparation to the perfect combinations of ingredients.
A really top lunch in every aspect.“

“The food was good, the plates were quite filling, the prices were consistent with what was served and the location and the attentive and friendly staff but I want to make special mention that a client came with his dog and as soon as he sat down they immediately gave him water and even gave him water. They gave a prize. They were attentive and loving even with the dog and for me it is something super important. The place is spacious and has a terrace but it fills up quickly.
Parking: It's crazy to take the car to Sintra
Wheelchair accessibility: Sintra itself is a place that is not very accessible due to the number of slopes you encounter along the way.“

“It is the best place to eat and dine in Sintra. Traditional and homemade food. Professional, attentive and close service. The price is affordable and they make you feel at home. Without a doubt if we return to Sintra we will repeat for sure.“

“If we return to Sintra, we will definitely repeat. Homemade food and very good service. The dishes are abundant and at a good price.
First we ordered the grelhado cheese which was very good. The house offers you starters at the table and if you don't want them you just have to tell them so they don't charge you for them. For the main course we ordered a bacalhau with cream and a maminha. The food was 10 and we were full. The attention is very close and very good even if we are tourists, they treat you as if you were one of the locals. They have made us feel very comfortable. My congratulations to the place for achieving such good results in Sintra, where most restaurants are expensive and offer poor quality.“

“It's very difficult to have everything good and sometimes it doesn't just depend on the restaurant, it depends on the diners. And today everything fell into place, basket with hot bread and cracklings already inside the bread, a person received like this even forgets to place the order. Then a menu that, after looking at it a lot, leaves you thinking that, well, well, you could order almost everything. I ended up placing myself in the "hands" of the lady who attended to me, with kindness and pure joy, and she chose for me, and the certainty and security with which she did so, without fear, is truly from someone who knows the excellent quality of the service for which She shows her face, there aren't many like that. Once again Mr. João, thank you very much for everything. More than knowing how to cook, it's being able to convey on the plate all the feelings that go into what you do. For you it was just another day, for me it was a discovery. Just two minutes of talking to you and if I hadn't had a sweet tooth I wouldn't need dessert anymore. We will definitely see each other more often, that's all I can tell you. Thanks.“

“The food was very tasty and we were full. But it would be cool if there was cheese on the vegetarian burger too. Otherwise the waitress (young lady with brown hair) was really nice and the food was brought quickly. If you're waiting for the train, I can recommend stopping by there :) Price-performance ratio is great.
Vegetarian options: Vegetarian burger. Unfortunately it doesn't have cheese.“

“Great food and great service. Food is ready in a short time and you get to enjoy it in a really comfy area. The server that helped us was specially nice and made the experience better during our visit. I ordered the octupus and was impressed by the flavor and texture.

“Great restaurant conveniently located in the centre of Sintra. Staff are very attentive and professional. Food is well presented and well cooked with full of flavour. I would recommend both for a relaxed dinner as well as a romantic occasion. To be safe book ahead but when we went in, there were plenty of free tables, albeit it was an early dinner“

“Not a lot of vegan options on display in Sintra. (A few vegetarian ones.) This was one of the only places in Sintra’s centro historico that advertised them. They’re all vegan veggie burgers, but the one I had (bean burger) was tasty enough and filling. I could have done without the 80s music blasting but to each her own!“

“I thought it was expensive for what you ate!
The prego was tasty.
The service was… bad from the young woman who served us, as she had little desire to help, “collaborate” and was not very responsive… and good from the rest of the team, always concerned with customer satisfaction, including funny jokes.
I recommend it, but for a “Tavern” it is expensive!
Parking: With no parking available on the street, you will have to park and get around on foot.“

“I had the most incredible lunch at Caricato. Greatly situated with views of Serra de Sintra and close to the beach, what makes this restaurant special is the truly remarkable food and wine offerings. The grilled squid was an absolute delight, bursting with flavor. To make it even more special, the staff is warm and helpful which made us feel right at home. The cooks are undeniably talented; every dish is a feast! Caricato is definitely my favourite restaurant in the area.“

“Great little place. So glad we stopped by after long day of walking in Sintra. Everything on the main square was so busy and we just wanted to be able to get away a little from it. Walked up the stairs a found this gem
Food was delicious. Tuna steak and octopus dinner both grilled to perfection.
If you are in Sintra , stop by.“

“Best octopus I've ever eaten!!! The tavern has a very comfortable atmosphere. We sat on the terrace as recommended by the waiter and it was a very pleasant lunch, a beautiful, calm and private environment. We ordered grilled octopus and prawn risotto with mushrooms, all absolutely delicious.
The staff is very friendly and attentive. The service was quick and responsive.
We will definitely come back to try other dishes on the menu.“

“This restaurant clearly stands out with its decor and concept.
For me one of the best restaurants I've been to so far. The many small dishes invite you to share and everything was outstanding, so much so that we went there again the following day.
Great service, especially when you order the eggplant.
Recommendation goes out“

“A classic Portuguese bar with homemade food at a very good price, of which there are few left. Feixoada, lizard, golden grelhada... all very very delicious ?. The young waiter was very fast when it came to taking orders, picking up, etc...perhaps a little more calm would improve the experience. Otherwise super recommended.
Kid-friendliness: They accept children and have a children's menu for €8“

“Zo lekker gegeten hier. We hadden een stukje vlees met champignon roomsaus en ham, verrukkelijk. Alle andere dingen op de kaart klonken ook lekker. Voor de rest heeft het binnen wat meer sfeer dan buiten, maar heeft ons niet tegen gehouden om buiten te zitten.“

“The best place to eat fish for lunch (it only opens at noon). On the day of our visit, we had a gorgeous grilled sea bass. The side dishes are fixed (very generous portions) and the same regardless of the fish you order. We paid 45 Euros for a sea bass for two with beans, potatoes, salad, and half a litre of white wine.
Service is ultra friendly.“

“The gentleman that served us today was amazing. We only speak English but he was very fluent and we had a lovely time there. We went for a late lunch, I had mushroom risotto and my friends had the veggie pasta and the octopus with potatoes. We were all blown away by the tase and quality of the food. The prices are very reasonable and the terrace has a gorgeous view too. Couldn't fault this restaurant and would definitely go again if we're in the area.
Dietary restrictions: Dairy allergy was easily catered for and not an inconvenience“

“We had a great meal at this place. They have a permanent menu of €17 with a starter and a main, €19 if you add dessert. We ordered sweet potato with avocado and for main the tartare which is incredible and the portion was very generous. The desserts are very vegetal and are very good.“

“This is the second time we have been to this restaurant because it is in a great location in the Colares area. The lamb is undoubtedly one of the stars of the restaurant and was very good but what really surprised me was the Duck with Orange which was simply divine, very well seasoned and accompanied by delicious rice. I highly recommend it, the starters were also very good and the portions are fair for the prices charged.“

“What a surprise !
Dishes cooked live.
The manager who is also the cook was very welcoming and dedicated.
Four of us ate in the evening.
It's a real atypical restaurant from real Portugal.
My 9 year old daughter loved it.“

“For seafood lovers! Tasty but expensive!
This restaurant doesn't have a menu as such. You choose fresh fish at the counter, it is weighed for you and taken off the grill. Grilled fish is very tasty. Price in kilograms. The service staff is very friendly. The location is wonderful, overlooking Ocean! The language of communication is English. You won't get any compliments from the chef here, you have to pay for every roll. I repeat again: tasty but expensive!“

“Our experience was great since the moment we asked for a table. The waiters were extremely friendly and since they knew our language (Spanish), they spoke it to make us feel comfortable.
This place is famous for its fresh fish and it didn't disappoint. We got the sea bass and it was GREAT! One of the best I ever had.
I highly recommend to visit this place if you are around Ericeira.
The only negative point is that it is cash-only.“

“Great place right on the beach. “Very, very delicious food and generous dishes. I ate the piece of beef and it was very good. I only have one drawback, and that is that they give you without asking an appetizer that consists of cheese, bread, olives, and ham and they charge you almost €10 for it. Why are you charging me for something I don't want and haven't asked for?…those things bother me a lot“

“It’s not often to find kind waiters, many of them of doing this job just to have a job, but our waiter which I unfortunately were not able to get the name was sooooo kind, attentive to details, like bringing 2 forks (one for me and one little one for my little boy), like bringing a spoon for my tonic water. He was often entertaining my little boy making him laugh by giving him high 5’s. You can see he has a passion for what he does and happy in life. I’m returning for sure and hope to be served by that friendly kind and welcoming face of our waiter ?“

“Our meal at Ribas wanted me to change our other reservations so we could come back and try more dishes. Each bite was a bite of joy.
And while we could nit pick (fancy restaurants beg for it), we were thoroughly delighted and satisfied. From the best toasted bread we’ve ever had to the scallop and mango salad to the prawn and scallop risotto to the steak, each dish was above the bar in quality and taste.“

“Some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. Me and my friend ate here pretty much every night of our holiday, other than when it was closed. We’ve both eaten at plenty of nice restaurants around the world and this place tops both of our lists. Tomas and Francesco looked after us, they were both great guys who couldn’t do enough for us. Highly recommend the Steak in Champagne, Black Angus Beef, Mussels Bulhão Pato, Cream & Spinach, Prawns, Sautéed potatoes, Carpaccio & the Pata Negra Smoked Ham. We also tried lots of other dishes that were great. Make sure to book in advance as it gets busy. Prices are more than reasonable for the quality of the service and food.“

“We went to spend part of the day in Sintra and looking for places to eat we found this spectacular place where to begin with what catches your attention the most is the pleasant treatment on the part of the waitresses, always polite, with a smile and helping you. if you don't understand the letter.
We were sitting on a little terrace with some very cute chairs and tables, the service is quite fast, the food is great, I highly recommend the grilled chorizo and the fried choco (breaded squid). And the price is quite acceptable for being in a place as touristy as Sintra.
100% recommendable.
Parking: Better to use public transport and once there, minibuses“
