“Honor to the humble local places of Madeira, honestly it was what we were looking for. A place that we could define as home-made and a little spartan, with a visible grill inside the restaurant, the chefs who could have been my uncle and aunt at the barbecue on May 1st, I was already excited (if I wanted to go to the restaurant I went to Milan, my opinion). Breathtaking view from the balcony for this small restaurant located at the base of the mountains that surround it in their entirety. Super cheap place, with 7 euros we got a "complete" dish of chicken and pork, rice, potatoes and salad... fantastic. I want to point out the kindness of the waitresses, they made us feel at home. Go there“

Greeted by Suzanna with a great smile, in French, she brought us on a large platter 4 superb fresh whole fish from which to choose the one we were going to taste. Deliciously grilled, soft, we feasted on a superb sea bream, a hearty and tasty plate. So, either we don't have a sea view, the style is more tavern, with paneling but we delight our taste buds for a more than fair price, proof that the address is good, the queue, we don't don't reserve!! We had a great bowl, a free table straight away!! Local atmosphere, a little noisy but lively. All the staff are super efficient in serving and satisfying every guest. A very good address with a view of the ocean (in fact the restaurant overlooks the beach). The service is careful and impeccable.
The lemon poncha is one of the best and the garlic bread accompanies it deliciously for a very local aperitif. I let myself be tempted by the squid and shrimp skewer accompanied by grilled sweet potatoes. It was divine but so filling that I couldn't finish my plate. My companion had the pork ribs and he enjoyed it. They were both tender and generous. We didn't have room for dessert. With regret because those of our table neighbors were magnificent“

“We were advised at A Traineira (Caniço de Baixo) and we are completely satisfied.
The bolo do caco at the beginning fresh from the wood-fired oven together with our traditional Poncha was divine. Then the picanha accompanied by 2 risottos (onion, beans and chorizo) was the highlight. We ordered it rare to our liking and it arrived that way. Then, at the end, the mousse clearly made in-house with hazelnuts on top was perfect, not to mention the always attentive service. I highly recommend it!“

“Outstanding! Our favourite place in Madeira by a mile. The service was impeccable. Standout dishes were the starter of goat cheese pastry with pumpkin chutney. And the two mains we had of grouper with lime and seaweed risotto and fish filet with coriander squashed bread. An excellent, modern and fresh twist on traditional cuisine - thank you!

“Giving 5 stars because it’s the only fully vegan restaurant in an island with very few vegan options. And the food was good! About 30 mins walk from the centre of Funchal, there was good variety on the menu and they have a nice patio. Server was friendly. We each tried a burger (there are two on the menu to choose from) and enjoyed them (not the best ever but still pretty good), and devoured the amazing fries. Smoothie was good. If they were open later we had would have been more than once for sure!“

The service is fabulous, the lady saw us struggling a bit with our hungry and grumpy toddler and asked what can she eat outside of menu. In the end our daughter ate very tasty sandwich that wasn’t on the menu and as well her fish plate. Desserts are really nice as well. So much better than a street away with all the tourist places.“

A few streets further on, we found what we were looking for in the Restaurante Casa da Sogra, which was not only within walking distance, but also very positive in every respect: owner-run family restaurant (the owner's parents are the chefs) with an unusually nice approach both from the senior personally and from the service (the owner's daughter actively works there). We were so impressed that we ate there again two days later and left the restaurant in a high mood. Excellent food without the chichi, great wine, wonderful dessert, excellent value for money! “Amazing value for money.
We got bread and rolls for our hikes from there every morning. We also took the chicken pizza and some other savoury treats with us and everything was tasty.
We treated ourselves to a breakfast of cake one morning as there are soooo many to choose from. The slices are enormous.
Would recommend to have breakfast there every day to try everything. I tried a lot in a week but still feel I am missing out on some things :)“

“Me and my two friends went here for dinner one night and it was so good we came back several times during our stay! It's a rustic, small restaurant with a bar. The place was well attended, mostly by locals, which is usually a good sign. There is plenty of parking spots right next to the restaurant and you can sit outside or inside. The food was very tasty and the portions were huge. The prices are very fair.
Where the restaurant really shines is in the service, Lucio and his wife Isabel are very nice, hospitable and simply warm-hearted people!
All in all, I would recommend a meal at this restaurant to anyone passing by São Jorge! We will keep it in best memory and hope to see you again!

“Our lunch at the Lavrador São Vicente restaurant was a real highlight of our stay in São Vicente. We tried the grilled mussels and the fish of the day (sea bass) and were amazed by the quality and taste of the food. The mussels were grilled to perfection and the sea bass was fresh and superbly prepared.

The price-performance ratio is unbeatable. Despite the high quality of the dishes, the prices are more than fair, making this restaurant a must for anyone in São Vicente. The service is also particularly noteworthy: the service was extremely nice and made us feel very welcome.

“We got there by accident while driving to the nuns' valley. It is a place visited mainly by the local community with local decor and atmosphere (I personally love and appreciate such places). The food is very tasty, fries cut from fresh potatoes (the large portion of fries is huge), delicious meat, wonderful vegetables. Local service with very basic English but I highly recommend it.“
