“The food was very good but a language barrier caused an issue with one of our orders. Something lost in the communication with our server. Server removed a sauce from an order when NO such instructions were given. We simply pointed to the entrees we wanted on the menu.“
“I read about this place before our trip, but due to its high stellar reviews, I was doubtful we would be able to get in. One evening we planned on eating at nearby restaurant but found out they were closed for renovations. We walked past Taberna dos Mercadores and realized there was only one group in line, so we decided to wait. Our wait was about 30 minutes until we were seated inside. As others have mentioned this place is small, maybe 10-15 tables. The service was great, the whole place being ran by 2 waiters, 1 chef and 1 kitchen assistant. It was like a well-oiled machine, I really enjoyed watching the chef cook. We had the garlic shrimp as an appetizer and then I had the octopus rice and my boyfriend had the ribs with sausage rice. It was A LOT of food, and I felt bad not being able to finish it all, but the food was spectacular. The best meal I had in Portugal and even one of the best meals I have had in my life. By the time we left, the line was quite long. So, if you want to try to get in, come early, and come hungry,“

“My wife and I arrived in Evora after driving from Lisbon. After getting settled we were hungry after having only yogurt for breakfast. The 1st rwo places we tried were closed so we wandered till we located 9 da Praca. What a find! Our server/ owner I'm guessing was very friendly and when I tried to order 3 items for myself she told me that was too much food. She was right. Everything was delicious, service was perfect and the prices reasonable. I had hoped to dine there the next day but she advised that they would be closed. Loved her and the place“

“Outstanding choice. Perfect location as it is walking distance from the old town in Evora The atmosphere is clean and simple tavern style. The service is perfect. The restaurant is owned by husband and wife team that ventured into their own venue during Covid. You can’t miss having a great time and eating out of the ordinary. Enjoy!“

“Fantastic! With no choice (and thank goodness), we were served authentic wonders, from dates with bacon to beef tongue sandwiches and even the best pudding, which was made from mountain cheese!!!! This cozy space has a different concept, as the menu changes daily according to fresh local products! A true gem in Évora! I will come back as often as possible!
Reservation in advance mandatory.
More than fair price for the quantity and quality presented!!!“

“Tasty dinner, the concept of the place is sharing, we took mushrooms sautéed with onion and garlic, veal with pepper, cod (they were also spiced bruschetta with garlic, onion and vinegar), roasted prawns and to finish instead of dessert we chose figs with ham and basil.
Everything was excellent, dishes cooked with passion, an environment suitable for couples or special dinners. Nice environment, friendly staff“

“Incredible service and food, excellent food quality/price,
BUT €5.80 FOR AN IMPERIAL AND €3 FOR FILTERED TAP WATER?
A 33cl bottle of water in the biggest nightclub in Lisbon costs €2 and an imperial bottle costs €4, which is no justification for such inflation.“

“It was a great opportunity to experience traditional Portuguese home cooking. The service, especially from the staff, was pleasant and good.
I experienced Grandma Secret and Tomato Soup, recommended traditional dishes whose names I can't remember.
It felt salty, but it was still worth enjoying.
It was especially nice to be able to order 1/2 the main dish.“

“We were here as a family on our last day in Evora and we regretted saying goodbye to this city even more after this visit. The meals were really tasty and extremely filling. The tuna is a poem! The wine recommendation was also extremely tasty. After a not so good experience with a restaurant in the Alcarcova de Baixo restaurant alley, we ignored the statement in our guide that the eating places around the old market hall weren't that great and didn't regret it!“

“Great experience and location! The house rose was delicious. The host was so friendly and gave us many winery recommendations. My husband had the pork cheeks and I had the grilled chicken with demi-glace, both were cooked perfectly and very tasty. We will return when back in Évora!“

“Menu for a terrible QRCode. A person wants to be relaxed when choosing what to have for dinner, and they have to be tied to their cell phone... What's worse is that it's poorly organized, you can't understand anything and it's also very slow to load!“

“Homemade food, very delicious and abundant. Maybe we were guilty of gluttony and there was food left over.
We ordered the cod with spinach and a combination plate of pork fillet with delicious fries, egg, rice and salad.
The attention of 10, very friendly.“

“We went on recommendation from Google. Typical food from Évora, I particularly liked the partridge preparation. The waiter was very helpful and explained some dishes that we were unfamiliar with. The restaurant is well maintained. We made a reservation. I just didn't like the place where we stayed, in the basement, I would have preferred to have stayed on the top floor (ground floor) but at the moment I didn't say my preference. Fair prices for the service, minus water at €4. The value of the prepared dishes is fair!????and the egg sweets, recommended by the attendant, were really worth discovering!“

“Very good and simple restaurant. Delicious food and the price is also good. There are several options as daily dishes, but there are also other options on the menu. The white house wine is delicious. Every time I've been I've had an excellent experience. Luis (attendant) is friendly. It takes a little longer than other restaurants, but the food is made to order.
Parking: There is paid parking around. But you don't pay on Sundays. You can find free parking nearby too.“

“Amazing food and an amazing experience! The chef came to our table and was thorough when explaining each dish to us. The presentation was also impeccable and it was by far one of the culinary highlights of our trip to Portugal. The seasoned mushrooms, pear salad, and pork cheek / filet duet were all personal favorites!“
“Very nice place, the terrace is great under the 2 huge mimosa trees. I had some crepes with ham and cheese, which would’ve been top if the dough was salty. My wife got a tasty toasted sandwich with ham and cheese. The service was slow, the staff was overwhelmed by the number of orders and a bit lost between who ordered what, but always with the smile on ?.Overall nice experience.“

Realmente TOP! Recomendo a 100%!! Obrigado por esta experiência!“

“I’ve visited a few really good restaurants around the region and hibrido is the most exciting. I was shook by the way the chef cook and was curious why is he not featured in the Michelin guide. The way that he execute the dishes was exceptional, brave and a good balance. If you’re looking to try portugese food, this is a place you HAVE to come. It’s not fine dining but it’s fine dining standard. I can see the restaurant making it big in the long run! Kudos to the chef.“

“I stopped by for lunch and was the only person in the place for most of my meal. The food and wine were lovely. The gentleman who served me kind and charming. However, I walked out after paying dinner time prices for a dinner meal at lunchtime. 36€ for an entree, glass of wine and water.
Would highly recommend for dinner (not lunch) and definitely make reservations!“

“I went to Alkimia for the first time and after seeing the rest of the reviews, my expectations were high. But even my high expectations were exceeded. The food was very good!!! I ordered the black swordfish fillets and my companion ordered the octopus. Divinely seasoned fish and soft octopus that melted in your mouth. The desserts were also splendid. A chocolate petit gateau (which unfortunately I didn't get to try ?) and a tangerine ice cream with a delicious flavor. At the end we were honored with the offer of a poncha that helped finish the meal. My congratulations to the chef and the rest of the staff for the attention and kindness they gave us and for the professionalism with which they welcomed us. We will definitely be back to try the rest of the dishes!“

“I loved the space, beautiful, clean and welcoming. The service is 5 stars! Friendly and available.
The red fruit sangria on a 38° day was wonderful ?.
The pizzas are excellent. The extremely thin dough lets the quality of the ingredients shine.
The pasta dish was fresh and light.
The quantity served is generous.
Several dishes that allow vegetarians to choose.
The coffee is excellent.
We will return, without any doubt!
I recommend!“

“We had an enjoyable dinner. The staff really hustle to keep the food moving and drinks filled. All the dishes we had were of high quality, and enjoyable. The Mel e Noz cake was probably the best I’ve had. Service was a little slow in the beginning, but improved as the night continues. When considering the number of wait staff and tables, I felt the kitchen and staff performed excellent. Obrigado por tudo.“

“Excellent innovative cuisine. There is a 6 and 9 course menu. We enjoyed the 6 course menu (and regretted not taking the 9 couse!) . The good is fine, fresh and local. The chef is young and very talented. Our waitress was professional and very kind and the place very cosy. Well worth a visit!“

“Rare place in Portugal where vegetarians and carnivores can happily dine together! Albeit, only a few veg options (risotto, stroganoff) but they were excellent. Team service was good (good hustle by the servers) but at times this came off as annoyance.“

“Lovely place. Walls with tiles decorated in the style of the region and other details that give it a very cozy vintage tavern-local style. “We were enormously impressed by the food - wonderfully cooked pasta with delicious and imaginative toppings, beautifully cooked meat of great quality, and an amazing selection of dolce one of which - the Lava Cake - was outstanding. The chef is Portuguese, the waiters very personable, the decor beautiful, and the setting by the sea perfect. 11/10 if this was possible.“
“While visiting Évora and after researching where to have lunch, this restaurant appeared and we looked for it and we were very satisfied with its appearance, friendliness and an excellent lunch. cod with cream or house-made veal and even the bitoque for the kid, everything was impeccable and served well, the desserts were also very good, mousse and the famous house sweet, I recommend this very welcoming restaurant, we will be back soon.“

“Great restaurant. We arrived without making a reservation, but we were very well looked after. It turned out that a table quickly vacated and we didn't even have to leave and come back. But, it is very close to our hotel.“

“A very pleasant dinner, in a very peaceful and well decorated environment. The cover with Alentejo bread, sheep's cheese and local olive oil was great! We tried several dishes, highlighting the Alentejo Açorda, the octopus and the tenderloin with almond crust!“

“That feeling of going to eat at your "grandparents' house... Typical Portuguese restaurant that complements what is also so much ours, Fado. We had dinner on a Friday at the end of October 2023, we ate well, from the starters with the typical sautéed asparagus, to the main dish, the local delicacy, migas with ribs. The atmosphere was exceptional, as a family, while we ate we could still appreciate the enormous talent of the local artists and fado singers who always treated us to Fado classics. A special thanks to D. Esperança, responsible for the space, who also cooks, serves tables, welcomes guests and sings. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes good homemade food combined with our culture, which is Fado.“

“What a lovely place in Evora!! We went here for diner during our short 1.5 day visit to the city. We ordered the cheese plate and a few of the tapas like dishes on the menu. Great combination! We ordered a bit too much so unfortunately had no room anymore for some desserts...“

“The small cafe, located in one of Evora's small side streets, has very good coffee and a wonderful selection of delicious tarts (both sweet and savory).
During our visit at the end of April, we were able to sit outside in the quiet square with large trees and enjoy the late afternoon sun.
The service was very friendly and attentive.“
“This was our second trip to Portugal but on this trip, spent more time in Spain. We left Seville and drove to Evora to spend the last two nights of our vacation. We did not get to hear Fado on first trip and asked the owner of our AirBnB, he recommended this place. He called the owner and secured reservations for us. We got there at 0730 but found out the show would not really start until about 9. The atmosphere was incredible, small, and perfect. The owner took care of us personally, we had appetizer first and then a fantastic mixed seafood cooked in a broth, for two. It was delicious! The restaurant began to fill with customers and what we found out was about 7 Fado singers. A brother and sister were the musicians/singers but then several others joined in to perform solos…..it was magical. They finished and most everyone paid their bill and we thought it was over. However the owner suggested we stay, so we moved up closer to the musicians and it truly felt like you were in family living room, they all took turns singing. The owner eventually sang and closed down the night! We had to leave for the airport early the next morning but we did not care it was a late night, it was very special and I would highly recommend it!“

“I already had it at Martinho about a year and a half ago (in a 4-day stay in Évora we came here to eat 3 times) and on this new visit to Évora we had to go back!
Once again, well served and the food is still great!
The waiting time never bothered us firstly because we are on vacation, secondly because all the food is made fresh and makes up for the waiting time! The dishes we ordered didn't come with rice as an accompaniment but we were immediately told that they could make it on the spot and that was it! The tomato soup is very good and the meat is of very good quality and well cooked!
Without a doubt, it was a “find” where you can eat very well and at an affordable price!
We will definitely be back! ?“

“Beautiful decor and many choices of local wines. We had a cheese board with bread. It was creamy and delicious. The shrimp appetizer was also excellent. The octopus was very tender with a light flavor. Their dessert flan with olive oil and olives is a must. Light and not too sweet. The olives are somewhat candied and are just delicious. Service was impeccable and our waiter described the foods and made suggestions on wines based on our descriptions of what we like to drink. ( do try to have reservations, if it’s slow they might say yes but as we sat there many were turned away for not having reservations. )“

“What a gem! This restaurant is located down a very narrow cobbled side street. The dining room was simple and tasteful and had a really nice feeling to it with the nicely set tables. You are not crammed in as you may be in other places, but the space is still intimate and comfortable. The food was outstanding. You could taste the high quality of the local, fresh ingredients. The main dishes were delicious, but all the side vegetables were equally good and, I think, deserve to be featured as mains. I just can’t overstate how good the food is. And, contrary to a few of the reviews I read and thankfully ignored, the prices are beyond reasonable. We were very hungry and absolutely stuffed ourselves with 5 appetizers, two mains that were very large, a dessert, a beer, a bottle of water, and two very good glasses of wine for . . . about $90. Service was outstanding as well.“

“A restaurant where Vattern is at the front keeping the locals happy and Muttern is in the kitchen preparing Alentejo delicacies. Not a fancy-schmancy temple, but a restaurant mostly visited by locals. Everything was very clean and friendly service.
There is no menu, everything is handwritten on a blackboard. However, the Google Translator couldn't handle the handwriting. So I just ordered carne de porco, batatas fritas and salad and 1/2 liter of Vino Tinto. And then the plate came... in addition to salad and batatas, it was filled with 5 pieces of meat, of which I couldn't have said which piece of the pig they came from because of the shape. But one thing I can say is that it was the tastiest pork I've ever eaten in my life. As a sobremesa there was a huge piece of delicious cake and afterwards I was so full that I called a taxi. The whole feast cost €20.“
