Regional flavors was the first restaurant we dined at in Funchal. We particularly appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, who, even though the restaurant was closing, made us sit down to have dinner. We tried the bolo do caco and the scabbard fish with banana accompanied by a side dish of vegetables and sweet potatoes. Dishes not very abundant compared to other places tried in Funchal, but still good value for money.

A one-time restaurant for tourists. The service was nice and friendly, but the food was not impressive. Cataplana, which we had previously admired in other places, was watery, poorly seasoned, bland and served with a bowl of rice. Additionally, ordered fish, thin and fried, accompanied by 2 slices of sweet potato. Prices are high here, but not gastronomy.

Owner or whoever they have upfront to “greet” customers made racist remarks to my wife and I and other passerby’s. He’s obnoxious and tries to get everyone to eat at their mediocre restaurant. Do not eat here.

On 05-06-2024 I had lunch at the Regional Flavors restaurant with two other people, the dish of the day which was "cigar fish", right after lunch two of the people had an intestinal crisis (diarrhea) that lasted all day (one of them being a 9 months pregnant), I was admitted to the hospital with an allergy attack, arrhythmia and shortness of breath. I was given the information that this fish, when caught and weighing over 10kg, contains in greater quantities a toxin called"ciguatera" which could be fatal in some cases, which could mean that this restaurant purchased the fish outside the auction and the market conventional, which is a very regrettable attitude and a lack of consideration for its customers, putting public health at risk. First time in Madeira. Service was really good, atmosphere cozy, however, we had the mixed plate with different fish and shell food and it was not that high quality (definitely not worth the 4,4 rating on Google). Especially when you compare with different fish restaurants around the city where you pay the same amount as here (would recommend Peixaria No Mercado where we even payed less if you want high quality fish, the atmosphere is not as cozy, but damn the fish is good).
It's still good here, but yeah, compared to yesterday it was a bit of a disappointed especially as we payed more here even.
