“It was not our first time when this restaurant was “on our radar”, as we visited the region one year before, and wanted to try it out. At that time, my girlfriend felt like the menu was focusing too much on fish, and I can fairly say that, one year later, wow, was she wrong :).
The location itself, whilst not very impressive from the outside, is very cozy and well designed on the inside, just perfect for a relaxed, yet memorable dining experience. The staff was very attentive and their English was spot on (I am Portuguese, but my girlfriend prefers English, so all of the dishes were explained and presented accordingly).
It’s not by chance that one of the menus was called the “Balanced” menu, as for us - who like fine dining, and are no strangers to 1 star Michelin restaurants, especially in Portugal - it was, perhaps, the most perfectly combined set of dishes we ever had.
Chef Antonio Loureiro succeeded in designing the menu in such an incredible way, that every dish (and I do not exaggerate when saying EVERY dish) was as tasty as it comes. The flavors, the attention to detail, but most importantly, the selection of ingredients, were the things that impressed us most. Looking back, it was hard to pick just one dish that stood out…because we liked them all.
We highly recommend this place, as it’s one of those hidden gems, which you should not miss, if you’re a foodie!“

“S. Gião in Guimarães is a culinary masterpiece! This exceptional restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. The pasta with shrimps was cooked to perfection, with succulent shrimp and a flavorful sauce. The tiramisu was creamy and divine, and the mushrooms were tender and expertly prepared. But the real surprise was the Smashed Eggs in appetizers - a game-changer!
Every single dish was top-notch, with fresh ingredients, precise technique, and presentation that was almost too beautiful to eat. Almost.
The service was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home.
S. Gião is a must-visit for anyone in Guimarães looking for an exceptional dining experience. Don't miss out on their outstanding pasta, tiramisu, mushrooms, and Smashed Eggs - your taste buds will thank you!
Highly recommend S. Gião for a truly unforgettable meal in Guimarães. Book your table now and get ready for a culinary journey!“

“Exceptional place and Portuguese food couldn't be more typical, good quantity and everything delicious. We put on the boots with everything and it cost around €20. The place is authentic and fabulous, without a doubt to recommend and return.
Vegetarian options: I don't think he has it, although because of the deal, I wouldn't be surprised if he could do something for you.
Parking: Impossible to park at the pedestrian gate
Wheelchair accessibility: Difficult like the entire historic center“

“Another great (veggie) lunch in guimaraes. We had the pasta with veggie balls and they were excellent! The service was very friendly. We visited with our little 3 month girl and it was a little noisy and we could not lie her down (no benches), but that did not ruin our experience. The service offered us a baby chair, but she can not sit yet. Thank you for the great food!“

“Very nice place to dine, they even gave us a choice of terrace or inside, the staff paying attention to all the details all the time. Unbeatable treatment.
All the dishes we ordered (rice, sea bass and cod) were on point, tasty and very well presented.
In short, perfect quality-quantity-price ratio.“

“Excellent restaurant at all levels. From welcoming customers to farewell. Always attentive and incredibly friendly and helpful. The food is great and with very generous portions. Good wine, good room close to the city center of Guimarães (by car), but far enough away to not feel the typical service for tourists where you don't feel the homely touch. Beautiful family dinner.“

“I rarely say that a restaurant is really 5 stars, but this really is one of them.
The atmosphere inside the restaurant leaves something to be desired, so we sat outside, which is beautiful. We were served with great friendliness, the food was EXCEPTIONAL (ask for the cover charge, the butter is made there!), the passion fruit, mango and orange sangria was one of the best I've ever had. The tiramisu is also homemade and delicious. Experience to repeat, without a shadow of a doubt“

Daily plate of Brazilian stew did have fake meat which isn't our favorite but was still tasty. Would be nice to see how a whole food version would be. Would recommend and return. “A great experience! Friendly atmosphere, helpful staff and very good food.
We ordered garlic bread with cheese (starter), cod puff pastry and a vimaranes francesinha.
To finish, we tried the Dona Maria sweet, an excellent combination of chocolate mousse with camel baba, biscuits and cream.
Without a doubt, I will repeat it when I return to Guimarães.“

“An iconic space in Guimarães, Casa Costinhas is a must-visit point to discover typical Guimarães sweets, such as Toucinho do Céu and Torta de Guimarães (the original recipe, based on egg, sugar, almonds and chila, was created here). All very sweet, as conventual sweets dictate.Friendly and available service.“

“The restaurant offers a very pleasant atmosphere, ideal for family gatherings without noise or confusion. The staff is friendly and attentive. The starters are well prepared, including paladinhos, pataniscas, octopus, cod, alheira puff pastry, vegetable puff pastry and ham. The Spanish-style cod accompanied by stewed potatoes and Douro red wine made the meal perfect. The burnt cream milk dessert, despite not being homemade, complemented with coffee ended the experience. The visit is worth repeating.“

“We were looking for a place to eat francesinhas because my children didn't want to return from Portugal without trying them and we found Real Plazza: a total success. Variety of francesinhas with original combinations and without excess sauce (although they offer you more if you want to add), very pleasant service and a modern, clean place. We had a lot of food left over, so I recommend the option of sharing.“

“I found this little pastry shop by chance. Lucky for me to discover that this small space has a huge story to tell. Its regional cakes are made from a secret recipe that has been passed down from generation to generation.- Guimarães pies- Guimarães sky bacon- Douradinhas from GuimarãesThese are the 3 cakes to try. The person who opened doors to my Divine Gluttony was Mrs. Alexandra. Sorry, she asked me to just call her Xana. We had a very pleasant conversation about the history of these cakes and, to my surprise, I learned that these delicacies are better known to foreigners than the Portuguese themselves. This pastry has already been recognized by televisions in European, American and Asian countries, all of whom are in love with the sweets of Guimarães.Perhaps, as Portuguese, because we associate this city with conquests and glory, we do not believe that it is capable of sweet feats. We couldn't be more wrong.Xana and the rest of the family, I hope one day to see your great legacy receive the recognition it deserves. Until then, I'll pass on my word.“

“Good entries and a lot of prices on offer. It would be better if the steak was cooked less and the bread had a less dense crumb to let the meat shine more. I think the bread is quite good, but it should have a softer crumb to make the meat feel better.“

“We went to eat on December 30 and it was all friendly from the beginning. Mr. Casimiro was charming at all times, attentive, concerned and very kind. We start with the olives and the bread with butter. He gave us a tapa of bacalhao pataniscas (which he didn't charge us), a very delicious tomato, onion and lettuce salad. We ordered bacalhao for 4, very abundant and delicious, with its potatoes and the tray of rice. He gave us to try the feijoada (a good tray, which he didn't charge us either). In short, we had a luxurious meal and a very good price and very well served. If I return to Guimarães I will repeat and since I do not fully recommend it.“

“Very good place to eat. The entrecôte de nivilho is a recommendable dish. The meat is just right, grilled and with a rich mustard and honey sauce. The shrimp, squid and fish dish is a fairly consistent dish. All the fish is grilled, so the flavor is rich.
The waiters are very friendly, the atmosphere is good and so is the music.“

The chicken is the perfect size, and the flavor... I don't even know what to say! I ordered the Box from Galifão for home delivery, and in addition to everything being perfect, they delivered it super quickly! From the ribs, the chicken, the Tuscan, the potatoes and the rice! And they even offered a bottle of Sumol (and my favorite). Friendliness and professionalism from the first minute! The best chicken in Guimarães!“

“Guimãraes ?? Where better to start a walk through the center of this historic city than with a drink at the emblematic Café Milenário? A cafe from where people have seen the history of the last seven decades of their city pass through its glass doors. And Guimãraes is a city full of history, culture and beauty. With a historic center declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it becomes, in its own right, a mandatory stop if we travel through the Minho region, in the north of Portugal.“

“Sounds like I've found a pastry paradise in Guimaraes city center! We couldn't resist either—visited four times in just two days, now that's a successful pastry spree! If you've got a sweet tooth, this place is a must-visit!“
“What an amazing find in the heart of old Lisbon. As soon as you walk in you feel like you are home. We had our morning coffee with delicious pastries every morning and lunch a few times during our tree night stay in Lisbon. The staff was helpful and very friendly in fact I returned in November because it was like I was going back home. The staff still remembered us. What I also really enjoyed is that being Portuguese and living abroad it’s so nice to still find an authentic place where you still feel like you are in Portugal. Will definitely be back.“
