This is a great place for afternoon tea. They don’t accept reservations for lunch or tea and there is a line to get in. In our case the wait wasn’t too long. It’s a unique art deco design which could probably use some updating or restoration. The sandwiches provided with the service were good but the scones were too dry and sweets were just okay. Service was good and overall a fun experience. The deserts that other customers were ordering looked great.
Usually there is a queue but today I walked straight in and it is certainly a lovely place. But very expensive in Porto terms. €5 for an espresso very steep. But nobody forces you to come through those doors and the decor of this iconic cafe is worth paying a little extra, at least once.
This cafe trades on its heritage do not waste your money paying the inflated prices . You have to wait for a table not a problem if the experience is outstanding - it is not .. it’s average at best . We found a local cafe Seara Doce 5 mins walk away with better toasted bread for less than 2 euros and it’s awesome our 6 euro toast was cold . Staff are too busy to smile ! Best part of this landmark cafe is the photo option before entering.
