Boothroyd enjoyed his first visit here. The downstairs bar is for eating and for drinking.(or do both!) There is a restaurant above. We sat outside on a very hot and busy São João day. Good river view and bridge looms above. Enjoying another large beer ( need to drink fast as it is so hot today) as the crowds walk on by; plastic hammers in hand. Large beer and a vinho verdi for 9.50€

On a 24 hour visit to Porto we wanted a dinner by the river. We chose here...oh dear! The positives...well a beautiful river view, and a wonderfully designed interior. Ok....now the rest.....the staff seemed to be focusing more on setting up tables(in an empty restaurant), than serving the customers...with the exception of the young man who initially served us. The owner was at the till counting the pennies....the food was more fuel than food, relatively bland and overcooked, there was a patio heater in the middle of the restaurant instead of being on the patio where the customers would have benefited from it ....all this place needed was Basil Fawlty shouting " don't mention the war!" And the cliche would have been complete!. On a Saturday night, by the river the restaurant was barely 20% full. A shame....a bit more attention to detail and the customers could make all the difference.
