Very warm welcome, quiet location and excellent homemade Portuguese food at a reasonable price. The meal includes a drink, soup, bread and the chosen dish for 15 euros.

This is a great address not to be missed. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you can feel the attention and care given to every detail, the decoration is warm which immediately makes you feel at home. The lady who runs the restaurant (and the kitchen!) is of rare kindness and generosity, which makes the welcome particularly pleasant. No commercial artifice here, the cuisine is in the image of the owner: homemade, authentic, full of flavor. A real favorite just a stone's throw from the San Ildefonso church. A big thank you to you Madam for your generosity and your unfailing availability, at a time when many are bending under threat, your cooking is as much an act of sharing as it is of resistance!

very good and homemade food, unfortunately there was only one menu the drinks were very small, the price of the menu is expensive because for being a menu they did not offer dessert

Good homemade food, however, the price of the menu, €20 is expensive for a beer, without coffee or dessert. A dunk worthy of a good landing net.
What a nice and pleasant experience in Gondarem Baixa!
The restaurant, operated by wife and husband, runs on a peculiar formula: a €15,00 fixed-price offer (as of July 2024) that includes a bowl of soup of the day and a main dish of meat or fish also of the day, plus bread and water. Additional choices (desserts, wines, coffees, liqueurs, etc.) simply add to the fixed price.
The intriguing thing is that one only discovers which are the preparations "of the day" in the moment one sits at the table.
In our one-week stay in Porto we dined at Gondarem Baixa twice and enjoyed two different soups, both delicious, and two different preparations of "bacalhau" (cod fish), both truly excellent. We didn't taste the meat preparations, but we trust they would have been as excellent as the fish ones. In both dinners we added desserts (home made, very good) and a bottle of chilled "vinho verde" (a must!), summing up to some 26-28 euro per person.
The place, modernly furnished with a very nice taste, only accommodates some 30 people plus a few seats outside, so booking is recommended.
The service, provided directly by the lady owner, is at relaxed pace, adequate to truly enjoy the dishes.
A sixth star we would assign is for the background music, a selection of pop & rock greatest hits and evergreens, care of the owner, played at the right low volume to be enjoyable and never disturbing the conversation.

Well received by the hostess.
While waiting, the cook arrived... apparently who heated up a cod and potato gratin that we had ordered. The taste of the cod was very diffuse!!
On the other hand, a gazpacho starter was OK. Concerning the price 15 € without dessert you have to add 10% for the service.
Very mixed feeling. I don't recommend.

Excellent! We ordered two types of menu, the cod one and the sausage one. And they were both spectacular. Highly recommended.

if you like calm, kindness and good family and local cuisine you must stop at this restaurant!
menu for 15 euros: soup, fish or meat and a glass of wine or other. Homemade cooking Véra and Miguel are adorable and speak French which doesn't hurt. You can taste cod in all its forms, plus their port and their wines are really very good, nothing to do with the port you find in France!
When we come back to Porto we will come back with pleasure to make it our canteen again!
Vera and Miguel, Obrigado by tudo!

Nice cozy place where daily homemade food is served by warm hosts. I had soup, oven cooked codfish with red Douro wine, ending up with chocolate desert and incredible cockburn’s “aguardiente”. No brainer, fully recommended. Muito obrigado!!

A 15€ menu with starter, main course, excellent quality drink, the dishes are tasty and allow you to explore Portuguese cuisine with the rich flavors of fresh cod and local ingredients.
The owner prepares the dishes herself with a lot of love and speaks several languages (French, English, Portuguese, etc.). She gave us good advice and was very kind. Highly recommend this friendly little corner with a family atmosphere, you feel like you're eating at home.

Above all, don’t hesitate to take a detour to come and taste the dishes from the market and the daily products prepared with care. You will be welcomed wonderfully by a person who speaks Portuguese, French or English as well.
For a menu within reach of all budgets, we really enjoyed ourselves until dessert.
