We went to this restaurant twice in one week because the first experience was so pleasant! The restaurateurs are warm and very welcoming! And what's more, the food is delicious :) We were welcomed each time with a small, original and excellent aperitif platter :) I recommend 100%

One of the two best meals we had in Portugal. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Every dish was packed with flavour, healthy and well balanced using quality produce. Wines were reasonably priced for a restaurant of this standard. We particularly appreciated the vegetables and salads which were fresh, interesting and not the usual unimaginative offering. Slightly off the beaten track allowing you to enjoy your meal in a peaceful setting without the usual tourist mayhem. Highly recommended!

I went with a group of friends to the São João Dinner on the 23rd of June. Group of around 8 people. Booked in advance, with the São João menu, but negative note for the poor quality of the food and we paid €35 per person, very slow service with incomplete order failures. Caldo Verde weak in taste, Sardines (ex-libris of São João) were terrible, they weren't fresh, they should have been frozen sardines, they looked like they were eating sardine flour, really bad... A meat barbecue followed, which was tricky and we didn't like either. To finish, dessert served raw rice pudding, we didn't like it. Please make fresh sardines of the day and never frozen sardines that look like flour. Only positive note from the outdoor table.

While the staff were very friendly the chef was extremely rude. We placed our order and they forgot our drinks. Only once they had brought out our food they said they could not accommodate an adjustment for an allergy. We inqured further to which they said they could have easily accommodated it but the chef did not want to becuse he like the recipe better with the allergen so would not cook one person's dinner. Even the staff were shocked by this. They had to sit without and as the food was already served we could not leave to go else where. Waist of money, horrible attitude, do not go if you have any dietary requirements!!!

I expected a lot more from this place given the good reviews, but I left overall disappointed. The food was mediocre at best by Porto standards and the service was both inattentive and rude. Do yourself a favour and go to “Tapabento S. Bento” instead

I can count the number of times I've written a negative review on one hand, but if there's one thing I can't stand, it's people trying to deceive me.
I made a reservation at the restaurant through an app for 2pm and when I got there they informed me that 'we only have brunch for lunch' and they also blamed the app for not giving adequate notice. I don't see what the application has to gain from this, but rather the restaurant, which after having people there, convinces the majority to stay so they don't have the hassle of looking for another place. We left and we certainly won't be back.
