A wonderful place for Fado. Recommended by a local guide. Real people, real cuisine. There are no more tapas on the menu but that's the only note. I heartily recommend it!

Nice, friendly cafe. The husband & wife team were very welcoming. The food portions were sizeable and quite good. There is live Fado music and karaoke on Thursdays. If you are staying at Hotel Jaguar or any of the hotels on Rua De Constituicao, then this is walking distance and I recommend a visit.

Vegetarian options: When I visited there was a hearty vegetarian soup and salad on the menu.

Down to earth, friendly neighborhood eatery with Fado performances. Too bad I missed the show but in lieu was blessed with one of the most heavenly arroz de marisco (seafood rice) dishes ever. House white wine, which was served in generous measure, paired perfectly!

We came for a drink and to listen to Fado Music. The atmosphere was amazing. All the local grandmas and grandpas changing in singing and sometime the whole pub repeating the chorus.

Very good!! Marina, I think she is the owner, was kind to us, despite the lateness of the hour.

We came across this wonderful local taverna on rue da Constituicao just around the corner from the beautiful square where the Marques Metro station is located. We found that the taverna has Fado evenings on Tues and Fridays from 4pm to 8pm. We booked a table and so pleased we did as most were taken by the friendly locals who participated in singing their favourite Fado tunes backed by 2 guitarists. Marina really made us feel welcome; she is so friendly and helpful and helped make our evening memorable. If you are seeking an authentic portuguese fado experience, I highly recommend this gem.

My experience at Taberna Alecrim was not a good one. The food was stale and flavourless; no where near authentic Portuguese food. The Arroz de Marisco was one of the worst I've ever had, the seafood coming straight out of a can. Along with the poor food, the prices were outlandish given the meals we were served. Overall, I would not recommend Taberna Alecrim to anyone. (On the good side, the service was okay.)

If you're in town and you want to experience a true "Portuense" meal go somewhere else. The service is slow and unhelpful (took us over half an hour to get a menu and the menu was as descriptive as a blank sheet). The atmosphere doesn't allow you to have a conversation with friends as you have to endure hours of a gentleman singing way to loudly in a tiny space. Do not be fooled into thinking he's singing the Fado, it's just Pimba popular songs. Then the most important part: the food. The starters are frozen and packaged, the meat is hard and the wine is sleezy. The moelas' sauce was pretty good, which makes me think this Taberna should just focus on traditional Oporto food rather then try to be something they are not.Lastly the price. I don't think I've ever payed so much for so little food (both in quantity and quality). I am almost certain some of the prices were made up on the go as no one could actually give me prices while the meal was being served. Granted, some of times was because they didn't even know what they were serving.Overall this isn't a traditional Oporto food experience and do not be fooled into thinking it is.
