“After trying this family-run restaurant and being very happy with everything we ordered, we have returned to Gaivota several times. We are never disappointed. The grilled fish (golden bream, see bass and so on) is always perfectly cooked. My husband had fried squid recently and thought it was fabulous. He also praised the mixed grill. The desserts are excellent! The waitress is friendly and attentive and has a great sense of humour. Just a note: If you want to have a cataplana, you have to order it the day before. Ours was delicious!“

“Fish of the day was Bream and they did a good job grilling it. The serving was large and included boiled potatoes and a few boiled vegetables -- typical for this part of Portugal. We also had a salad which was nicely dressed in-house. The owners are eager to please customers. We were at the same place a few years ago and were initially disappointed that it chan ged hands; but the new owners look like they will be successful.“

“The place and the service are great. The prices are reasonable considering that you are just a stone's throw from one of the most important beaches in the Algarve. The dishes we ordered were very good, except for the ceviche which was just lemon juice with fish. He lacked everything. It didn't have red onion, it didn't have sweet potato or sweet corn. Not hot either. I was going to say it was the worst ceviche I've ever had in my life, but it's not a ceviche. It is fish in lemon juice.“

Absolutely impeccable, from the fresh and strong mojito sangria to the delicious tuna and shrimp taco starters.
Main course, pork cheeks, a dish that every Portuguese person has eaten a number of times, but which they managed to reinvent, and the green apple puree, cider foam, how wonderful.
To finish, chocolate mousse with honeycomb, salt and olive oil (yes, olive oil and it's brutal) and another grilled and buttered pineapple, with vanilla ice cream and cardamom biscuits.

The food that we ordered was very very good - we had a codfish toast and a charcuterie board with sweet potato, octopus salad and smoked tuna. You could feel in all of the ingredients, that the quality was nice. We also had a very good sangria made on sparkling wine. The service was also great - very very nice and helpful, yet not trying to overstep in any way. The prices might not be the cheapest, but it is quite a touristic area. Rui in charge of the grill; For our taste, it tends to become overcooked over time, so sometimes the fish arrives at the table overcooked. “My family and I chose this restaurant for its offering of the true flavors of Portuguese cuisine and we really weren't disappointed until dessert time.
The dessert chosen by my husband and I was a lemon meringue tart...existing lemon, meringue from poorly cooked egg whites that left us with a gastrointestinal problem for 3 days.
We notified the restaurant and were told it was impossible as they had not received any other complaints.
Very disappointed ...

“This was another restaurant on my radar due to the frequencing of local people . We ate here twice and booked both times because it gets busy and people queue down the stairs. Both nights the service was spot on and quick considering it’s so busy. The garlic bread as usual is lovely and the portion sizes are huge. You get what you order and then chips, potatoes, rice and veg to share depending on what they have fresh that day. No room for puds. A glass of wine and a beer and the bill was 32 euros. Service was great and my server was very helpful. The menu was only in Portuguese so between google translate and the server I was fine. Food was really good.
