What a shame!been there maybe 7/8 times in the last couple of month, last time was not the best but we thought maybe the chef had a bad day so we gave it another more try,,was worst! We waited more than 25 mns for our food ,my wife another 10 mns to get her dish, another 10 mns for salt and some olive oil.But it’s ok we’re not in a hurry but then my octopus was over grilled and tasteless so I ate some half cold for waiting for my oil , the curry veggies was tasteless as-well ,so we cut it short no coffe no desert , the owner to whom I mentioned about the missing water salt etc,,, did not even asked if all was good even so I left more than half my plate , first restaurant to cross from the list of Tomar , never again , wrong attitude , shame place is lovely.
This is good local Portuguese food!! We sat outside and had a delicious lunch Good friendly service and very good food
Fabulous location with view of the river. Charming restaurant, wonderful service, delicious food and Portuguese rosé. We enjoyed the chèvre with fig jam, grilled octopus with potatoes and a gorgeous bottle of Caiado local rosé wine. Highly recommend this spot! Obrigada!!!
We’ve eaten here twice and like the place very much. The food is fantastic and served by friendly and no nonsense staff. Very enjoyable. Would definitely recommend if visiting beautiful Tomar.
A full restaurant on a Tuesday night in late October in a tourist town is an excellent clue to something very good. This restaurant deserves the 5 star rating that I gave. Appetizers, two bream meals and four drinks for under 40 euros is wonderful. The bream was perfect and the octopus salad appetizer in waffle cones was unique. The chef is to be commended!
Unpretentious and yet perfect Portuguese cuisine. The grilled octopus with "migas" was to die for. The shrimp curry was excellent.. Very kind and warm service. Recommended.
Lovely place with friendly staff and a romantic view over the river. Nice menu and food delicious and also well presented.
Came here after visiting the monetary. Was close to closing time but thankfully they let us in and we sat outside over looking the river. The service was friendly and the waiter spoke English to a decent level. Food was great, prawn curry, grilled octopus and bacalhau all cooked to perfection. Overall a great experience and this restaurant deserves more reviews.
We went here because we hadn’t been to this type of restaurant in Portugal (taberna style). Seemed like mostly locals and local tour guides. They didn’t switch to English, so be prepared to muddle through. It will be fine. Interesting options like shrimp curry and a vegetable curry as well as more usual dishes. They said they “international cards” didn’t work there and wanted cash. Not sure if that is true or if the card fees are just really high.
Excellent value for money. The food was really good. The wine cart excellent and very reasonable in price. Very friendly owner as well. Worth a visit when in Tomar.
Restaurantji Recommends
Small restaurant facing the river with delicious meals and great wine! We had bread, a cheese appetizer, olives, wine & two entrees for 44 Euros. Great value! They don’t take international cards, so bring cash. Great meal! Expect the typical low key service.
Very pleasant atmosphere but very pricey and not very fast or hot not very impressed so would not recommend
I preface this by saying that my wife and I are not the stereotypical spoiled American tourists. We are seasoned travelers that know how to act in someone else's home town. Found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and decided to try it out. Said it was open so we walked down and discovered they were closed. We were disappointed but decided to try them the next night. We arrived with anticipation, they were busy but had a couple unreserved tables inside. We asked for one out of the doorway and were told no. Ok. We sat down and were given menus. A couple came in after us and were seated at the table we had requested. The waiter proceeded to get their drinks and bring their starters while completely ignoring us. My wife tried to catch his eye and he waved her off. He made no attempt to serve us while fiddling around behind the counter. After 20 minutes of waiting, it was obvious we were not wanted there. We stood up to leave and then he came over. I explained what we observed his indifference to us and that we would find an establishment that wanted our business. We went right next door to Resturante Beira Rio, who were much busier, and were welcomed in and had an awesome experience.
Located on the banks of the Nabão River, this restaurant is a treat on a hot day. Cold beer and good food. Reasonable prices and good service.
