“The absolute best estepada! You can see how they prepare it and the meat is beautiful even raw! The portion for €15 is larger than elsewhere (with bolo do caco was enough for two) Fast and professional service. Pleasant environment. Parking on the street in front of the restaurant.“
“A genuinely incredible dining experience.
Chef Robert has done something very special here. The combination of ingenuity of recipes, local produce and flawless presentation lived up to the expectations and beyond.
The service was also exquisite.
A must see if you're a culinary fan and in Madeira!“

“Visited this restaurant at lunchtime, a place at the end of the promenade with a great view of the sea.
The service tried hard, but was a little overwhelmed; our drinks only came after a slightly longer wait
We ordered small mackerels, which were very tasty. Then we had grilled squid, which was also super tasty and well prepared.
The prices were okay and we moved on satisfied and full.“

So naughty but oh so nice. The waiter informed us they were the best in the world....he may well be right !!“

“Prices are very low for Funchal, large portions, tasty food. Very nice service. A specific place with a characteristic atmosphere where locals eat. It happens that when you order some dishes, they are no longer available, but this is only because they were sold out that day. Therefore, everything is always fresh.“

“Super cute little but nice restaurant directly on the way to the lookout point. The food is all freshly prepared. Even the fries are freshly cut. Super nice boss who is happy to have a chat. I recommend everyone to stop there and have something to eat and drink.“

“Without exaggeration, one of the best meals we’ve ever had, and our favorite meal in Madeira. We got the beef brisket and pork shank, which were excellent! The meats are all marinated and smoked on-site and the flavors are truly delicious. To drink we just had the fresh squeezed lemonade which was wonderful. For dessert we had the passion fruit crème brûlée which was incredible. Wonderful and super friendly service! If you have the chance, definitely make it a point to try this place!“

“Restaurante Informal serves some of the most tasty and delicious food I've come across in Funchal, and the charming and cozy atmosphere just adds to the experience. We've gone through most of their menu during our stay on Madeira in February, and along with some amazing hiking experiences, the food from Informal is still being brought up as one of the highlights of our visit!“

A great success, it is a small place in the heart of the city.

“Do not judge the appearance of this place! It kind of looks like a travel agency at a mall in the US at first glance - but the food is exceptional and the service was perfect! We got garlic bread, mussels and seafood spaghetti for one - split bc it is huge. It was perfect! One of the best meals here!“

“I highly recommend !
A very good address with a view of the ocean (in fact the restaurant overlooks the beach). The service is careful and impeccable.
The lemon poncha is one of the best and the garlic bread accompanies it deliciously for a very local aperitif. I let myself be tempted by the squid and shrimp skewer accompanied by grilled sweet potatoes. It was divine but so filling that I couldn't finish my plate. My companion had the pork ribs and he enjoyed it. They were both tender and generous. We didn't have room for dessert. With regret because those of our table neighbors were magnificent“

“Hard to beat in terms of taste!
A quiet little side street that invites you to linger.
We had a very nice few hours, with good wine, a very tasty greeting from the kitchen, a very good starter, a main course that was perfect for me and a dessert in the restaurant to round everything off.
Absolutely recommended!“

“Delayed review based on visit in August 2025: I felt very lucky that the hotel we were staying in in Funchal just happened to be a short walk to Mundo Vegan, the only all vegan place on the island of Madeira. We came here three times during our visit, for lunch, takeaway coffee, and brunch. I enjoyed my risotto (never had black olives in it before!) but it felt strange to be eating such hot food (like still steaming even by the end of it) when I was so hot myself. The takeaway coffee was good but be warned in Madeira they tend to charge extra for a takeaway cup. Brunch was a feast as we ordered the breakfast of champions - definitely not cheap at €23 but our table could barely hold all the food and drink! Highlights for me were the fried mushrooms and the smoothie. The decor here is also really lovely and the terrace is very colourful with flowers. Downsides would be that it was expensive, and I was melting without any air conditioning (or fans that I could see). Definitely recommend!“

“Outstanding! Our favourite place in Madeira by a mile. The service was impeccable. Standout dishes were the starter of goat cheese pastry with pumpkin chutney. And the two mains we had of grouper with lime and seaweed risotto and fish filet with coriander squashed bread. An excellent, modern and fresh twist on traditional cuisine - thank you!
Only drawback was how hot it was inside given it’s an open kitchen - would have appreciated some aircon“

“Very tasty homemade food, amazing service, lots of locals who eat here. Very affordable. It’s a kanteen with good food, you can choose between meat and fish plate. Plates are big and tasty. The service is fabulous, the lady saw us struggling a bit with our hungry and grumpy toddler and asked what can she eat outside of menu. In the end our daughter ate very tasty sandwich that wasn’t on the menu and as well her fish plate. Desserts are really nice as well. So much better than a street away with all the tourist places.“

“A charming little restaurant seating 20 with a cozy bistro atmosphere. A beautiful place for a romantic moment!
The dishes are of finesse and perfect mastery of flavors. For example, I want the piri piri octopus which is soft in the mouth and just seasoned just right.
The meat is perfectly cooked and the accompaniments are top notch.
I highly recommend it!“

“My daughter and I went, we were very well attended to, the black beans were very tasty and the meats were tender and very tasty. The service from the team was professional from the beginning, but the gentleman who served the meat was 10 stars (Mr. Paulo Sérgio) and always served with great friendliness, good humor and willingness, it was a pleasure to be served by him. Super recommended! On Monday, it really was starting the week off on the right foot. Thanks!“

“What an experience!
We enjoyed it immensely. There was a lovely woman who sang all evening. The food was of top quality and the price was cheap compared to Dutch standards.
€61.95 for a 3 course menu with prosecco and 3 different wines, they also poured each time the glass was empty.“

“Living in the Hotel Panoramico, we were looking for good, authentic local cuisine beyond the tourist mainstream. A few streets further on, we found what we were looking for in the Restaurante Casa da Sogra, which was not only within walking distance, but also very positive in every respect: owner-run family restaurant (the owner's parents are the chefs) with an unusually nice approach both from the senior personally and from the service (the owner's daughter actively works there). We were so impressed that we ate there again two days later and left the restaurant in a high mood. Excellent food without the chichi, great wine, wonderful dessert, excellent value for money! Thank you for the successful evenings, we'll be happy to come back!“

“Half of the options on the vegetarian a la carte menu can be made vegan. None of the desserts can be made vegan however they kindly whipped us up a chocolate mousse with red fruits, it was delicious. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. “Poncha and a Nikita drink was needed on the trip and as we went to the peek of the island that day to see the sun set and this is a prime location for after or before staff are friendly atmosphere is awesome and the fresh air surrounding the area is the best
Parking: It's big enough for up to 30 cars give or take possibly more but also think it'll be different at various times of the day
Kid-friendliness: It's kid friendly although it's close to a not so busy road but caution is still key due to location
Wheelchair accessibility: Yes there is a ramp“

“Our lunch at the Lavrador São Vicente restaurant was a real highlight of our stay in São Vicente. We tried the grilled mussels and the fish of the day (sea bass) and were amazed by the quality and taste of the food. The mussels were grilled to perfection and the sea bass was fresh and superbly prepared.
The price-performance ratio is unbeatable. Despite the high quality of the dishes, the prices are more than fair, making this restaurant a must for anyone in São Vicente. The service is also particularly noteworthy: the service was extremely nice and made us feel very welcome.
Overall, we can only warmly recommend the Lavrador São Vicente restaurant. If you are in São Vicente, you definitely shouldn't miss this culinary experience!“

“Amazing value for money.
We got bread and rolls for our hikes from there every morning. We also took the chicken pizza and some other savoury treats with us and everything was tasty.
We treated ourselves to a breakfast of cake one morning as there are soooo many to choose from. The slices are enormous.
Would recommend to have breakfast there every day to try everything. I tried a lot in a week but still feel I am missing out on some things :)“

“Me and my two friends went here for dinner one night and it was so good we came back several times during our stay! It's a rustic, small restaurant with a bar. The place was well attended, mostly by locals, which is usually a good sign. There is plenty of parking spots right next to the restaurant and you can sit outside or inside. The food was very tasty and the portions were huge. The prices are very fair.
Where the restaurant really shines is in the service, Lucio and his wife Isabel are very nice, hospitable and simply warm-hearted people!
All in all, I would recommend a meal at this restaurant to anyone passing by São Jorge! We will keep it in best memory and hope to see you again!
Thank you Lucio & Isabel :)“

“During our vacation we spent two evenings at Calheta Green. The restaurant is beautifully located - with a view of the sea and quiet, green surroundings. The food was very fresh and tasty. The grill is visible to all guests. The restaurant also offers a bar.
We were particularly impressed by the service of our waiter Igor. We could always trust his recommendations regarding food and drinks. His very friendly and, above all, attentive way of working stands out clearly from other locations on Madeira. After our first visit, his service persuaded us to spend our last evening in Madeira in this restaurant.
Vegetarian options: Fresh, tasty and unusual.
Recommended to other vegetarians.
Parking: Approximately 15 parking spaces available
Wheelchair accessibility: You can park directly in front of the entrance. Access to the restaurant (including the terrace) is level.“

“Excellent restaurant, the best food we ate in Funchal!!! To our surprise, it was not the beer that was important, but the excellent food: be sure to try Picado (we ate beef and octopus). Great service and atmosphere! And finally, brandy shots, which is not standard in Funchal! I recommend it 100%“
“Immaculately morning stop! As a bakery enthusiast they are always a first stop abroad and this one is the best of the best. High quality pastries, quick service. The nata was amazing and would be my top rec! Everything priced well. 2 nata, 1 croissant and 1 spinach pocket were only €5.“

“We got there by accident while driving to the nuns' valley. It is a place visited mainly by the local community with local decor and atmosphere (I personally love and appreciate such places). “A must stop. They don't speak English, if you ask for an English menu they shake their heads. In a few words, they will tell you what, of course, has nothing to do with what you think. Here you really arrive in Madeira. You can eat well for cheap. It is not a place reserved for tourists. But Google is your friend, you can figure out what's going on and they don't care about you. ? Then you'll get something to eat. But you get the feeling of going to a local on Sunday. Don't ask for a cheese sandwich, because cold Gepsonka cold cheese is cold Madeira bread. But they bring it out in 1 minute.“
