The British Hotel, Restaurant & Pub

I went to the British Hotel for dinner during a special event. The food and service were average, nothing special. The real issue was the way our event was handled. Management interrupted and shut down the activity, saying it was distracting for staff. The treatment felt extremely disrespectful and made several of us uncomfortable. As women, the way we were spoken to made us feel unwelcome and unsafe in the space. Overall, the experience was so negative that I won’t be returning. I wish I had asked for a refund.

There is no service on site, just a lock box. But it is a lovely spot. Recommended.

Love this place! Always great food and service. Also saw a comedy show there once. That was fun! Highly recommend.

Avoid this hotel – terrible experience.
Stayed for 9 nights and it was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. There were several bugs in the bedroom when we arrived. The bedding is unhygienic — no proper duvet covers, just a flat sheet under and over the duvet. Housekeeping never came unless we asked.

The worst part: one night they informed us that there would be an event in the pub below. It turned out to be a wedding, and they placed us right above it. The music was so loud the bed and floor were shaking - until way past 1 a.m.. We tried calling the company — no answer. We asked to move rooms beforehand and they refused.

They also didn’t fully reimburse us for that awful night. Completely unprofessional and inconsiderate. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Service terrible. Our waitress ignored us multiple times, had a bad attitude and never came to check on us to see how the food was or to see if we needed anything. The pizza was burnt to crisp and very short with the toppings.

I couldn’t sleep all night because they has a wedding in the bar beneath our room, when we called to tell them they only said “we truly understand it can be noisy” and did nothing about it..
There we bugs on the curtains, we told them first day when we arrived, they said they were gonna take care of it and never did..

We were a group of 10 people together for a birthday celebration. We chose to eat on the patio, since it was perfect temperature and possibly one of our last chances for patio dining this season. That was a great choice. I really enjoyed my Cobb salad. I believe everybody at the table enjoyed their meals, which included two burgers, two nacho orders, two Greek wraps and a poutine. I also love that their café next door was open and I was able to get an Americano to have with my meal. I like the British, indoors or out. It's easy to find parking nearby and it's a nice area of Aylmer.

Why did this place reopen? It's a joke. Staff behind the bar just shooting the shit and swearing at each other. Didn't know how to print a bill, got a bill for $48 when all I had was an pint of beer. Wasn't even asked if I wanted to order food even though I had a menu..... No service in the service industry anymore....just close back up again.

We had a very good lasagna with a salad at a reasonable price in a very good ambiance.

Not travel as we are local. Only rating the restaurant. We shared chicken Nacho which was delicious, and had a couple of beers. Lovely setting out on the terrace. There was just a stench coming from one part of the terrace so we changed table.

Wonderful place and highly recommend . The pub’s food is great and the atmosphere is so nice ! Mostly we get our usual calamari, pizza and draft beer and the great Caesar cocktail. The service is excellent and we always had wonderful servers. Very attentive and nice . Definitely recommend the pub for drinks and food . We also had family staying in hotel part and where happy with the rooms and reasonable pricing .

For my upcoming flight from Ottawa, I chose to stay at The British Hotel, at least my friends recommended it. The hotel room was very nice, with a simple and nice design. There's no doubt about the cleanliness. The bathroom was more than adequate, but of course, this hotel has some flaws. First of all, I would appreciate it if the host saw this. Please, when booking through AirBnB, please don't hesitate to inquire about the personalities of the people who were there. There was a group upstairs yelling wildly, and I think they were watching a game and smoking weed. Who knows??? I called the host and told him I would call the police, but the host said the police don't come to these kinds of events and didn't seem to care. Apart from the management who obviously tried to push us away, the hotel is excellent. Definitely grab a bite to eat at the pub and restaurant, and definitely stop by the little sweet ice cream shop down the road.

Last night I ordered a 1-liter sangria, but when I asked for the bill, they charged me for a 2-liter one. I complained to the waitress that I didn't order 2 liters, but she was all rude and arrogant and told me it wasn't her problem! Make sure to check what you order and what they bring you... the waitresses are sneaky.
