Very very disappointing! We visited the Fairmont Chateau Montebello... a stroll on the grounds, step inside to the beauty of the grand foyer with hopes of enjoying a drink or a hot chocolate in front of the fire! This was about 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon (it is clearly indicated the bar opens at this time). The Bar Le Foyer is closed ... "to open soon" the hotel staff said ... well, another 30 minutes, still no sign of the bar opening ... Yet other guests in the foyer are being served drinks ... apparently there's a bartender somewhere, but only for hotel guests as they add the cost to their room tab. Ok, so inquire again and again ... "it won't be long" .... by 4:30 p.m. still the bar is closed ... so we left! Not impressed ... a hotel of this prestige, right before the holidays, at it's grandest with all the beautiful decorations, on a Sunday afternoon, the lobby was packed with guests. I know, so what ... but a "Fairmont"?, described on it's website as a "true Canadian experience", "the world's largest log cabin" ... Really? If this basic service cannot be fulfilled, I'm certainly glad I didn't pay for a room .... what other basic services are lacking ... especially considering the incredibly high cost of a basic room!

This place offers a great ambience, a good service and some uniqueness.I expect food prices for a lunch to be higher by like 150%-200%. But therefore I still expect a decent quality.Unfortunately, the you can get similar food at any other truck stop. It is a pitty.I would have rather liked to pay an additional 50% on top to get something special and enjoy the overall experience.

Wow… sorry. That’s all I’ve got. We had an amazing dinner and evening. Wait staff were amazing and the meal was next level

I do not recommend! Not worth the cost. The service was super slow. We waited forever for our starter and then our meal. And to complete it all, old-fashioned invoicing where you add the tip by hand on the invoice and sign... Which leaves them free to falsify the amount put and charge us more! Already that I was generous to leave 15% despite the service!

Correct. Good meal despite relatively high price. Very long service. The place could be warmer.

I dined at this restaurant with my daughter during our stay at the Fairmont Chateau Montebello. She ordered the cheddar grilled cheese sandwich and when the meal arrived, I was utterly disappointed to discover that this « luxury» hotel was passing off processed sliced garbage as cheddar cheese. I talked to the waitress, who after checking with the kitchen, confirmed that they normally serve the dish with cheddar cheese, but ran out. She was extremely kind and in fact agreed that she did not allow her kids to eat this kind of processed food either. I wanted to bring up the issue with the manager as I felt there was something misleading about what was being advertised. He came over to the table and i proceeded to explain that I would have appreciated knowing in advance that the kitchen had run out of cheddar cheese. He feebly responded that they are a big place (ironically only filled to about a quarter capacity), and that this was not an item that they sold frequently. He told me to look around the restaurant and asked if I saw any kids, as though trying to justify the fact that his establishment was trying to pass off one thing as another. I told him that regardless of the number of children present at the moment, the restaurant nonetheless has a children’s menu! His lame excuse really rubbed me the wrong way. He clearly could not have cared less. Despite how insignificant he found my point to be, he could have smiled and apologized. There’s something to be said about courtesy (not to mention honesty), in the service/restaurant industry, especially coming from someone in a managerial position. I expected better in food quality and service.

It's unfortunate, but this is not a great restaurant and it negatively impacts visitors' experience of Montebello. We ended up here twice and on the first night our table was given away to another group and then when we finally ordered, meals for three people in our group didn't even come out and they had to reorder. I had the steak frites and while the steak was excellent, the fries were cold. On the second visit (due to a lack of planning), we found that there was such a long wait in-between courses and the restaurant wasn't even full. On the second visit I had the Cesar salad, upgraded with roast chicken and this was just ok - nothing spectacular. I also shared the maple creme brulee which was also ok, but didn't stand out. The main issue here is that the restaurant is either understaffed or that the staff are not supported and trained fully. The staff that served us were very nice but the poor experience was down to mistakes which are solvable. The recommendation here is to either eat at the main restaurant or to eat in the town, although with the latter it's worthwhile booking your restaurants ahead if you are staying at the Fairmont (they were all full on our second night which is why we ended up here).

We have had many good meals at the bistro. The club sandwich has always been good, we've enjoyed the salmon and steak. My friend had some excellent duck. Service is not fast but it's not supposed to be. You are there to enjoy the bistro. At no point did I ever find the service slow and they have always been respectful and courteous. The one time I wasn't happy with my meal, they cooked me another one and made sure I was happy.

My family and I love coming to the Chateau Montebello. We come twice a year, every year. Once with all the kids and once just us. It's such a shame however that the bistro kitchen is run the way it is. The service is great, much like the rest of the hotel but the food is terrible. I feel really bad saying this because my wife and I both work in the industry and know how much reviews can affect business however every time we ate here, we were left so disappointed. Even my children didn't like it and it was mostly fried food! The food for the most part seems purchased premade and just reheated, yet priced like freshly made meals. Even the fries were not made with real potatoes but rather frozen coated fries. We did have the chicken leg dinner and it was okay but served with an overcooked Ratatouille that was more of a porridge. The other restaurant in the building is very nice but not the best place to bring three young children, especially with mains being 30-50 dollars. Now when we bring the children, we are forced to leave the hotel and have dinner in town, which is too bad.The breakfast and lunch buffets offered by the Chateau Montebello are great and a reasonable price but the Bistro La Seigneurie is a complete letdown and needs a ton more attention and care before it can meet the standard of the rest of the hotel.Again, the service was great but the food embarrassing for what you pay. I really hope the hotel makes some changes in the kitchen as we love coming here as a family.
