A&W branch in Desjardins mall is an average place to have fast food. The service and the lady at the counter were ok but the food did not impress.

They don't have an ice machine for soda 😅
I used to think this A&W location was one of the more consistent, reasonable ones. However, that seems to have changed. They short-change you on the toppings/fillings, making their products really cheap. Look at how little coleslaw they put in their current cod burger and cod taco special and compare that to what you see on the screen in their ad/order menu. How much do they really save on skimping on the coleslaw to this extent? Why can't they just put in a decent amount the way they are supposed to? With so little coleslaw and sauce the burger and taco were extremely dry, and the taste was lacking flavor.
Had a Papa Burger with fries and a Coke, my first time at A&W. The burger was really good and everything came out fresh. Solid first impression and I’d definitely go back.

Pretty solid A and W in this mall. Got two Mozza burger meals with sweet potato fries. Burger tasted fresh and sweet potato fries were a really nice side to go along with it

This A&W location in Complexe Desjardins is a standout example of what a fast-food restaurant should be. The convenience of its location is hard to beat — you can access it through the underground tunnels connected to the metro, so there’s no need to step outside, which is especially great during Montreal’s colder months or on rainy days.
Despite being a smaller location, the front-end staff are impressively efficient. Even during busy times, wait times are short, and orders are handled with speed and accuracy. The food is consistently well-prepared and, remarkably, looks like what you see on the menu. It might sound like a simple thing, but anyone who frequents fast-food restaurants knows that’s not always the case.
What really sets this location apart, though, is the attention to cleanliness and customer care. If you pay with cash, the cashier takes the time to wash their hands before handling the next order or bagging your food. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference and shows a level of professionalism and consideration that you don’t always see, even in more upscale dining spots.
In my opinion, this A&W exemplifies what other locations should strive to be. The combination of convenience, quality food, fast service, and thoughtful attention to hygiene makes it a top-notch choice for a quick and satisfying meal. Whether you’re grabbing lunch during a work break or fueling up before exploring the city, this location delivers every time.

The veggie burger was not the best. Tasteless. The fries were too oily.

The driest potatoes in the world!!!
2024 service is a lot faster & friendlier on some days, other days staff seem bored, indifferent & even hurtful & confrontational, & the breakfast sandwich was dry, overcooked & I had to ask for ketchup, or I probably wouldn’t have got any, IMO. They don’t seem to wear hairnets in the kitchen. Coupons work and they were being put on trays until the clerk who said the manager decided no more coupons for you. So they make you feel like a bum & I personally feel stigmatizing people before their coffee is unethical & disrespectful of a person’s time. I usually avoid places where staff seem to be allowed to treat people differently/possibly profiling them based on what they assume is their social-economic status, which often impacts quality of meal & atmosphere & amount of time wasted there. Experience is not consistent to say the least. When the staff who are serving are friendly and polite the food they are serving seems to be also prepared with more care & is hotter and not overcooked & service is faster & less time guzzling. When the staff seem bored & indifferent the food seems to be cooked that way too, IMO, then the food with or without a coupon isn’t worth the wait, hassle & cost, IMO. Then after that awful early morning experience I got an email from A&W for a free rootbeer as if a person is going to go back to more hassles & insults & possibly warm rootbeer & dry, overcooked & cold food, IMO. Usually most coupon books have one or 2 coupons you use & then you throw out the rest, which I did. A waste of postage when you think about how many coupon books are probably in recycling bins everywhere when you remember that fast food is not as good when cold, and soggy. When I had the teen burger & onion rings, the burger was good but the onion rings weren’t crispy & tasted mushy & looked different than those in menu picture, IMO. A&W is more expensive than some of the other fast food places in general but the food is expected to be better & some days it is & other days it isn’t. I threw out my coupons & decided to not go back to this A&W location. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you are expecting a good, quality A&W experience consistently. You have to just trust they are washing their hands more consistently but after about an hour after eating there my stomach felt queasy, IMO. Not much fun.
