“Edit July 2024: food as good as ever but VERY SLOW service and no recognition from the staff in this regard, everyone in the restaurant seemed to be waiting for a dish that took way too long in the kitchen. It doesn't make me want to go back. They are victims of their own success… they certainly have the means to hire more staff

Edit August 2023: back to Mon Lapin in real life this time (not in pandemic take out like the first time!!). Unrivaled dining experience with fresh and seasonal ingredients, but without any pretension at the same time which was really appreciated. Simple-looking cuisine but with complex and very thoughtful tastes in the context of a neighborhood restaurant in Petite-Patrie/Petite-Italie. Extremely friendly service, excellent wine advice. Very nice place where you eat very well and where you feel welcome. Big favorite for the scallop croque, canned leeks, corn dish, grilled cod, beef tartare in zucchini flower, pasta with sungold tomatoes, clam juice and bottarga as well as the summer log for dessert. Really a great experience, I can't wait to be back. Glad to also see that the restaurant keeps its soul and its initial vocation as a neighborhood restaurant despite the #1 restaurant award in Canada and the many tourists who are there every evening (we felt that the staff was very happy to serve us in French!). Already looking forward to going back!!!

October 2021: We ate the Thanksgiving meal at Vin Mon Lapin/Casgrain BBQ. WHAT A GREAT!!!!

The duck was tender as can be and went perfectly with the grilled onions, the gravy was well seasoned, a little spicy and went really well with the duck and potatoes, the mashed potatoes were creamy and tasty and the garnish of chips and chives was perfect! The Brussels sprout and green tomato salad was fresh and tangy, cutting through the richness of the other components on the plate. And finally, the sweet candy squash pie was succulent, not too sweet, the crumble topping complimented the squash taste well and the caramel (nice texture with a little alcohol taste, maybe bourbon?) added a touch sweet and smoky tart.

In the absence of being able to celebrate Thanksgiving with family, this delicious meal was a great consolation that I would recommend to everyone!!”

“Was my first visit to their new space (they just reopened and expanded) and I was blown away. Beautiful, sophisticated design, but still feels intimate and low key. Staff were fun and friendly; drinks were fresh, interesting/unique and stiff. Loved the vibe overall and definitely worth making a detour for - it's a great spot for a date, to hang with friends, or to entertain business colleagues/clients. They've completely upped their game even further and cemented its status as one of the best cocktail bars in the city.”

We had the Arctic Char for 2 with a side of Gnocchi and Caesar salad the fusion of flavour in the sauce on the Char was heavenly. The fish was done to perfection!! The Gnocchi was unlike any we had ever had and the herb oil drizzle highlighted the perfect texture and flavour of the gnocchi. The deconstructed Caesar was perfect!! “Beautiful restaurant at a very unconventional spot. Everything from the minute we walked in was perfect. Emily greeted and seated us on their terrace, which is both covered and heated, so you don’t have to worry if it’s raining or a little chilly. They brought a plate of their sourdough focaccia, olives and olive oil while we were looking at the food and drink menus.

We started with a mixed appetizer plate which included beef, lamb and pork arrosticinis, chopped up razor clams, mussels and halibut crudo. We also tried the white fish croquettes, fried polenta and the tomato focaccia. Delicious ??

For primi, we shared a tagliatelle dish with chanterelles and pancetta.

The secondi was a perfectly cooked striploin which was accompanied by broccolini and fries.

We ended the night by sharing two tiramisus between the 4 of us, as we were pretty full from all the food.

I highly recommend this restaurant whether it’s for a night out with friends, a dinner between couples or even for corporate lunches/dinners. The service we got from Emily was as good as service can get!”

As you walk in, you smell the wood fire, all the food is cooked on a wood burning fire, and plancha,
But before you consider the food, let's focus on the cocktails of a wide variety and quite diverse, I was surprised to find a Pisco Sour, Hmm quite tasty..
With the food being a shared tasting it would have been nice if it was cut in portions for easier sharing.
But all in all a very nice experience, and their sauces that covers each serving is truly a piece the Resistance..

“Went today with my friend after studying at a nearby café and was served by the most wonderful waitress - Luna. Such a sweet person who radiates a wonderful energy. Made our experience x10 better because of her. The food was really good and the atmosphere felt like I was in Mexico. The music was perfect as we could hear each other talk, unlike in other restaurants. “A beautiful little Japanese restaurant with a very warm welcome. It was the first time I ate nigiri, it wasn't to my taste but I could still see the excellent quality of the fish. The daikon starter, sake and mochi were very good though. The only downside was the service was a bit long but it was still bearable. If you like raw fish dishes, I think this is a must.”

Excellent service yesterday when I ordered the lobster sandwich around 12:33 pm. Keishauna and her colleagues were very polite and friendly! The service was prompt, as usual! I found that the sandwich was very generously filled with delicious lobster. In the past, when I ordered from another branch, on the south shore, the sandwich only had small pieces of lobster.
I look forward to returning again with my work colleague, as you are a 10-minute walk from work!!”

“spent my birthday and tuck shop and i WISH i remembered our waitresses name. she was so attentive and took some great pictures of our party to help us commemorate the celebration. entire staff was incredibly attentive- clearing silverware and plates between courses, refilling water, attending to our every want or need. couldn’t have asked for better service!!

the food was DYNAMITE!! ? the oysters were from new brunswick and tasted so fresh, served with shredded horseradish, a lovely sweet onion sauce, lemon, cocktail and hot sauce. we tried the mushroom toast which had chanterelles, lobster mushroom and it looked like some tiny button mushrooms. perfect umami flavor! the market salad was light and refreshing. all were easily split amongst our party.

i tried the chicken ballotine for my main and it was divine! it was presented beautifully as medallions- the outside skin was crispy while the inside was tender and juicy. perfectly complemented by the pomme puree, mushrooms, legumes and other vege. the other mains in our party were so good, every plate went back completely clean!

i had a refreshing moscow mule and also the chocolate plum sundae for dessert. it was rich but heavenly- perfect to share so everyone can try a few bites.

we will definitely be back! this place is a gem. thank you to all staff at tuck shop for making my birthday so special. cheers!”

Vegetarian options: They have quite a few vegetarian and vegan options of the arepas which is great. The vegan options we tried didn’t feel like you were missing out on richness or flavour.

“This was one of the best experiences I’ve had at a Persian café in Montreal. The venue is fully accessible and accommodating for people with disabilities and those using assistive devices. The accessible washroom was a particularly nice touch. The café also features a charming patio and a cozy indoor ambiance. I visited on a rainy day and arrived much earlier than my scheduled meeting with a friend. Despite being a first-time customer, I was treated like an old friend. The quality of the coffee, tea, and food was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. I tried their Persian coffee, Persian tea, and mirza ghasemi, all of which were delightful.

What stood out most to me was their hospitality—they had no issue with me sitting there for a couple of hours before my friend arrived. They ensured I was comfortable, even providing access to a power outlet so I could work on my laptop. They struck the perfect balance between attentive care and giving me the privacy I needed to feel at ease. They even went above and beyond by assisting me to the washroom, which I found incredibly considerate. When I thanked them, they responded warmly, saying, "Don't mention it; we're here for you." This is definitely a place I’ll be returning to, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Persian food, a warm ambiance, and an accessible space in the heart of Old Port Montreal.”
