The hotel was great in a perfect location with great service. What made the experience so good was a staff member named Nathaniel. He was the nicest, without him it wouldn’t be as pleasant.
Excellent location of Montreal downtown area. It's a self serviced check in-check out hotel with passcode for entry and fob for room entry. Old building, no elevators. Check in is at 3 pm, in case you reach early they have area to store luggage safely. Hotel also has a cafe downstairs.
A nice place for the cost. Rooms are simple and fine. Service is friendly and bilingual.
Parking situation around the hotel is a bit of a pain - if you can’t reserve a spot at their lot there are only a couple spots you can park in overnight along the road, otherwise you’ve got to find a private garage somewhere else in the neighborhood. The location isn’t bad if you’re planning to spend most of your time downtown or along the waterfront, but we found ourselves shuttling back and forth between the hotel and the Plateau/ Mile End neighborhoods, so we’ll probably look for accommodation over there next time we visit Montreal.
This place is nasty. Please don’t believe the positive reviews. Every inch of this hotel is covered in stains. I attached a few photos to give you a feeling. Broken light bulbs, mold, poorly painted walls, and stains stains stains on everything. There are also basic functional issues (no light switch / light in my room — only a table lamp, no outlets near the night tables, no bathroom in my room lol)
This is a very European-feeling shabby chic hotel in a great location if you want to explore Montreal on foot. The lobby coffee shop is legit and the espresso is good. It opens at 8M.
Rooms are quite pretty. Note that bath towels are provided, but not washcloths. Our room was air-conditioned and the AC was nice and powerful.
Street parking is extremely difficult. Reserve one of the very limited number of hotel parking spots if you can. It's something like $30 a day as of summer 2025 and that price is absolutely worth it as parking is nightmare in this bustling part of town. We had to park a few blocks away in a private pay garage.
We stayed two nights at the Ambrose and would definitely return.
location was amazing, everything was within walking/public transport distance!!! process was very smooth and was surprised to have free parking (expected $30/night). hotel was pretty quiet and empty, which did scare my mom but it was very quiet and easy to sleep!!!!!!!! bunk beds were great
This hotel is located on a residential (mainly student housing) street near a busier, more commercial one. This gives it a quiet, tucked away feeling, while still being quite walkable.
Rooms are lovely with high ceilings and old-school charm. Do be prepared to navigate lots of stairs and narrow hallways - would not recommend this spot for anyone with mobility concerns.
Minimal sound proofing between rooms and hallways. Was not an issue during my stay, but I could see how it could be, depending on how busy the hotel gets.
Staff at the front desk / café were very sweet, but be aware that this is a low service hotel and there is not always a staff person on site.
Overall, would absolutely stay here again.
Pretty basic for its price. Also, kind of hard to find a parking spot around it. Prepare to walk 10+ mins if you are parking on the street. I likely will find somewhere else to stay if I go back to Montreal.
The best place to study, great coffee and amazing atmosphere.
We had a wonderful stay in the hotel. The staff were really nice and accomodating and the room was very clean. The location is fantastic for tourists with lots of fun things to do around!

During my recent stay at Ambrose House & Café in Montreal, I was thoroughly impressed by the cleanliness and tranquility of the establishment. Nestled on a surprisingly quiet street in downtown, the location offers a peaceful retreat while still being conveniently close to the city's attractions.
The room was impeccably clean and comfortable, providing a serene environment that ensured a restful night's sleep. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, contributing to a relaxed yet efficient atmosphere throughout my stay.
Additionally, the on-site café was a delightful bonus, offering a cozy spot to enjoy delicious breakfast options. The combination of a clean, quiet room and the charming café made my stay at Ambrose House & Café truly enjoyable.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a clean and peaceful accommodation in Montreal.
Special Shout-out to Ahmed who welcomed me at the reception, he was very helpful and professional.
Had a wonderful stay and will definitely come again during my next visit to Montreal! Special shout out to Ruth working at the reception/cafe who couldn’t have been nicer!
So my girlfriend always go to this café and says she loves it a lot. Unfortunately, when she went last week and the usual barista wasn't there, a male barista was very rude with her. She ordered her usual--latte with vanilla syrup and oat milk--, but the week prior the usual barista stated that they didn't have vanilla syrup and she offered simple syrup instead. So, she explained to the barista KINDLY she'll have it with simple syrup as she assumed that you guys may not have had it last week. She told me your barista that week interacted with her very rudely. Please know that this interaction is not necessary.
