I recently stopped by Boulangerie Première Moisson on Plateau-Mont-Royal, and it was an experience that exceeded expectations in every way. This bakery is not just a place to grab bread or pastries – it’s a true Montréal institution that blends quality, tradition, and charm under one roof.
The first thing you notice when walking in is the aroma. Freshly baked bread fills the air and immediately makes you want to try everything. The display counters are beautifully arranged with a wide variety of breads, pastries, sandwiches, and desserts. Everything looks fresh, artisanal, and carefully prepared.
I tried their classic baguette as well as the olive loaf, and both were outstanding – crusty on the outside with that perfect chewy, flavorful inside. Their croissants are among the best I’ve ever had in Montréal: buttery, flaky, and light, exactly how a croissant should be. I also had a slice of their lemon tart, and it was simply divine – tangy, balanced, and not overly sweet.
Beyond the baked goods, they also offer ready-to-eat meals and sandwiches that make it easy to grab lunch. The smoked salmon sandwich I tried was fresh, well-balanced, and generous in portion. It’s clear that they care about using high-quality ingredients in everything they prepare.
The staff were warm, attentive, and patient, even though the place was busy when I visited. Service felt efficient but never rushed, which really added to the overall pleasant experience.
The Plateau location itself is bright and welcoming, with a cozy seating area that makes it easy to enjoy your food on-site.
Overall, Première Moisson delivers on every level – quality, service, and atmosphere. Whether you’re looking for daily bread, a quick bite, or a sweet treat, this bakery is a must-visit in Montréal.

I was excited to try Première Maison Greta, but the éclair didn’t quite hit the mark – it wasn’t very fresh and didn’t taste as good as I expected. Everything else seemed fine, but the éclair was a bit of a letdown.

Teach your baristas social skills. Barista skipped past me and took the person behind me's order, I stated I was actually next and he ignored me and carried on. your foods great but that was incredibly rude. Even if it was a miss understanding, simply grinning at me and ignoring me was ridiculous.
