The best restaurant in Montreal. If you’re craving authentic South Indian fare in Montréal—especially well-made biryani and porotta-style treats—this place is hard to beat. I would go back in a heartbeat.

The porotta (flaky South Indian flatbread) is amazing and made fresh to order. It's absolutely perfect when paired with their creamy, velvety butter chicken. The mango lassi is also great. Everything tasted fresh and was quite affordable.

Felt like home made Kerala food. The restaurant (Hole in the wall shop) is run by couple who genuinely love to make the food.

Very honest staff. Food was amazing! I was so optimistic at first because I had really bad indian food around thr city but this place is certainly offers not only authentic and traditional Indian food but also the quality and taste is above average. I highly recommend!

Very good, tasty and authentic food, honest seller, just enough spicy. Took the chicken biryani
We came to Montreal on a one-day trip and after visiting a few places, we searched for lunch spots. When I googled “Kerala(most beautiful state in India)food Montreal,” this place showed up with an impressive 4.9-star rating. The name caught my eye – Cabane (which means “hut” in French) – and I later realized it translates beautifully to Biryani Hut.
This hidden little treasure is tucked inside the food court of a mall, but don’t let the location fool you – the food is outstanding.
We ordered chicken biryani, mutton biryani, and Kerala porotta (a layered flatbread) with beef curry. The biryani was fragrant with ghee (clarified butter), the rice perfectly cooked, and the meat tender and flavourful. Unlike the spicier North Indian basmati biryanis, Kerala biryani is more delicate, with the flavours centred around the meat and its gravy rather than the rice itself. It’s mildly spiced, aromatic, and comforting – ideal if you enjoy balanced flavours rather than overwhelming heat.
The real surprise was the Kerala porotta. It’s the best I’ve had in Canada – soft, flaky, and made fresh in the traditional way (not from frozen dough like many places). Paired with the rich, home-style beef curry, it was a perfect match.
What makes this spot extra special is that it’s run by a family, not just staff working for a paycheck. You can feel the passion and love in the food. It has that “cooked at home” warmth, which is rare to find when you’re far away from Kerala.
If you’re curious to try authentic South Indian comfort food, this is a must-visit. Don’t expect heavy spices or restaurant “fusion” flavours – this is homestyle cooking with heart. A must visit place 😁
