After I spilled and burned my hand outside from a coffee, Barista Sophia was very kind to give me another one for free. Great service and very kind, thank you Sophia.

My toddler got hit hard on the head by the wooden top of an old desk, standing upright near the entrance of the café (fortunately his winter hat softened the hit, otherwise he may have been knocked out).I was a bit shaken and told the staff that the desk should not be there. I told them that this could seriously injure a kid, and that they should ask their management to remove it.The person I spoke with insisted that they were not responsible for the desk being there, that it was my son's fault for touching it, and my fault for not watching over him. I told the person that they didn't understand the situation, and we left.To the owner or manager of the café who may understand hopefully: you should not have a wooden desk top standing unstablily upright in your café, this is an accident waiting to happen.

Firstly, I hate leaving reviews but I left this in hopes the owner sees it and addresses these concerns.I am having very inconsistent coffee and service at HL on Sherbrooke. When ordering an Americano with milk, I do not want the milk added to the water (!?!). This watery milk is then set aside for a few mins while they make the espresso to pour into said watery milk. Why would you do this? The cold milk cools off the hot water so the Americano becomes lukewarm. When the staff is asked not to do this/remake a lukewarm Americano, I am met with eye rolls, “knowing” looks to the other staff, snickers, and shrugs. I am always kind and respectful. I always tip. As a regular, I do not appreciate being treated like this. This has started happening regularly and this week alone, it has happened 4x. I am (was) a daily regular there; if we include the HL on McGill college, I am a daily 1-2x regular. Recently, I’ve taken to hiking up the hill to Toi et Moi in the Science building to get a good Americano. I regret having to do this. I used to love the coffee here.Saying that, the cheese cumin scones are the best I’ve ever had anywhere and the owner is lovely with the cutest dog. I wish he’d get the staff and Americano situation sorted out. I’ll keep coming to buy scones until then but no coffee for me.

Cozy cafe with tasty drinks, perfect for a stop on a Winter Day. Their london fog was smooth with the right amount of tea flavour. Cold water was available on the side to self serve if you needed it, which was a nice touch.Seating wasn’t the most comfortable given the size of the space and some chargers weren’t working at all. Some hangars was available for you to hang your coat especially nearby the washroom.

This café and owner need a lesson in customer service and simple human decency. I went to the Sherbrooke location and ordered an Americano. The lid was not put on properly by the barista, and upon walking out of the café, the coffee started leaking out of the bottom of the rim of the lid (not the hole where you would sip the drink). I quickly realized that the coffee was much hotter than it should have been. The coffee was so hot in fact that I developed a very bad second degree burn on my thumb that blistered within hours, despite having put my thumb in cold water within 5 minutes of being burned (photos included). I reached out to the café and explained what had happened, including two photos of my severely-blistered thumb. The owner, Jason, was very dismissive of my situation, indicating he had checked the water temperature and that it was safe to drink immediately so he’s not sure how the burn could have happened. Only upon threat of legal action did he say he could possibly explain what could have happened, so we met in person, which went so poorly it’s still hard to wrap my head around it. He started off by indicating that he didn’t know what I wanted, explained that the water machine is regulated so that the temperature remains fairly constant, poured some of the water into a mug and put his finger in it, saying that he could keep his finger in it and it wouldn’t burn, and essentially saying he has no idea what happened. Not once in this conversation did he apologize. All I wanted was for him to acknowledge that his coffee had caused a severe burn and to take accountability for that, which I told him. He responded something along the lines of “I cannot take responsibility for this, or I would be responsible for every person burning their hand on hot coffee. It didn’t even happen in the café, I wasn’t there so I don’t know what happened.” I asked him if he would be responding differently if this had happened within the café and not a few metres outside the café, and he did not answer, but merely began talking in circles about how it was an accident, that he was not there, and so didn’t know what happened. He said he could not be responsible for every person who burned themselves on hot coffee, using the example that if someone bought a coffee, sat in the café and then spilled it and burnt themselves, that he wouldn’t be responsible. He then went on to insinuate that the burn was my fault, asking, “Are you sure you didn’t grip the cup too hard and the lid popped off?” While he acknowledged that this was a freak accident, he in no way, shape or form took any responsibility or accountability for the fact that it was coffee from his café that caused such a severe burn. When my friend who was with me for this entire exchange realized that he was not taking any accountability and was talking in circles, she said that we were leaving. I thanked him for meeting with me, and we started to make our way out of the café. Note that this entire exchange happened within the café, no privacy was offered (we asked if there was another room we could go to and the answer was no). He responded by saying “And now they’re walking away.” Sir, you freely admitted that you could not take responsibility for this, and it was clear that you felt no accountability, no compassion, and instead tried to insinuate that I was either making it up or that it was my fault that I developed a second-degree burn. Your arrogance is astounding. Upon leaving the café, the friend with me heard one of the other employees saying “You did this to yourself. You’re stupid.” Every customer or potential customer deserves to know how you think and how you treat people, which is why I am leaving this review.

Very friendly, warm and cozy. The lattes and drinks are delish. The coffee is a “fancy” floral and fruity (?) blend that isn’t my favourite.A matcha with soy milk was over $7, which is just too much.Other than price, 5 stars.
