Great find in Montreal, great coffee, friendly staff, and amazing atmosphere. They had a mortadella sandwich, so that was a surprise! I had never seen it in a coffee shop before and it was tasty! The location is also near some amazing part of old Town, so grab a coffee and go for a walk!

We had afternoon tea at de Mercanti. The ambiance is nice, a cozy place to hang out. I particularly like the bookshelf - everyone was able to find a favorite book - i can easily spend the whole afternoon there.

The latte I had from here was nice and bittersweet. The cafe itself was a bit small and seemed more of a place to get things to go rather than to sit down in my opinion. The employee was also quite accommodating for me as well. (Sorry for not reviewing in French)

I’ve been to this cafe many times while travelling through Montréal. I go because the location is next to where I stay. The female staff look very unhappy, one was exceptionally rude and didn’t acknowledge me saying hello or goodbye, just glared at me. I thought maybe everyone got this treatment but no the next lady who spoke French was treated very nicely. Coffee has been consistently decent, however I was charged more in the late afternoon vs the morning for the same coffee. Probably because they were about to close and she didn’t want to work anymore. Or perhaps she thought she deserved a tip for just doing the bare minimum. Generally I would say miserable and rude staff who pick and choose with whom they are polite. I’ve read a lot of the reviews, and I agree more with the low star reviews as accurate than the high star reviews appear disingenuous.

Rude staff, went in to use the bathroom like any normal human being would and instead of them asking me nicely that I should ask next time to use the bathroom which is weird since it’s a cafe; I just wish they would’ve asked me nicely and not make it seem like I was invading the cafe like some criminal.

Typical Italian café with bilingual and professional staff! I highly recommend the paninis with the foccacia and don't forget to check out their Pannetone or ready to eat selection.

I really enjoyed exploring and finding this place within a few blocks of my hotel... I saw it was highly rated and wanted a good cup of coffee... And breakfast.I ordered my raspberry and custard danish to pair with my Americano coffee... but I also wanted something more substantial so I went with the pancetta.Well, I thought I was ordering the pancetta, when I pointed at the item with the sign for it, it was actually a ham and cheese croissant...but until they served it I didn't know that's what I had pointed to.When I questioned it that it didn't look like pancetta they said that people always mix that up... I guess maybe they ought to display it differently, but they happily made me the pancetta and I took it to go because at that point I had already bit into the ham and cheese and that along with the danish and coffee, it was enough for then...They didn't charge me for the pancetta! That was NICE, so I gave them an extra tip in the jar, because they were very gracious about it.The danish was very good and went nicely with the coffee. I enjoyed my window seat overlooking the street (until the bee came....)Later, when I went to eat the pancetta, I unwrapped it and found it to be barely filled with any meat, but certainly plenty of greens. It wasn't pleasant, so I didn't really take but a couple bites before throwing that away. I'm glad I didn't pay for it, if that's how it normally comes.Overall I'd go again and order the danish and coffee. The ham and cheese was actually pretty good too. But I'd be careful on the pancetta.. maybe it was a one-off situation.
