So... the restaurant is in a remote area of Old Montreal and could be considered a 250 year old cave/basement with an ambience of prolific proportions. Service was A1. The food was delicious... we had a delightful grilled salmon and lamb roast, both cooked to perfection. For the quality, the prices were decent.
Will definitely return.....

Things I enjoyed:
- Complimentary bruschetta
- Complimentary bread with good quality olive oil and vinegar
- The ambiance
- The mozzarella
Things I didn't enjoy:
- Our server was not warm or welcoming in the slightest
- The energy felt elitist
- Only providing one low end option for by-the-glass prosecco on the menu

If you’re looking for good quality home style Italian food, look no further. This restaurant is a classic and the food truly takes like an Italian grandmother made it from scratch at home! Do yourself a favour and come here!

Our dinner at Da Emma was exceptional and the ambiance in this legendary old Montreal restaurant is unique. Food was excellent and service attentive without being intrusive.
l'expérience aurait été excellente si ce n'était de l'attitude quelque peu désintéressée du serveur.
DaEmma was highly recommended by a friend. We made a reservation and were seated immediately. The decor is quaint, tastefully decorated; very fitting for an Italian dining experience. Our waiter was friendly & attentive. The complimentary bruschetta was delicious & our main meals of meatballs & sauce and veal stuffed ravioli was one of the best we've enjoyed. When back in Old Montreal, this is a definite

Always a memorable experience. Nice to be able to hear yourself think and not strain to carry on a conversation or feel rushed to enjoy the outstanding cuisine. Wait staff are very attentive but not intrusive. Portions are right sized and the wine list is great.
Nous avons adoré notre expérience pour un souper d'équipe. Le service était parfait, la nourriture et l'ambiance excellente !

I love that there was parking for the. The restaurant was very beautiful. There was space between tables which was great! The service was excellent. We really loved the appetizers, but some of us found the main meal to be very basic. I ordered the veal ravioli and I found the sauce was slightly sour/zesty which I don't like. Overall we had a wonderful evening!
Da Emma is absolute, reliable value, year after year. I was with a foodie for Milan last I was there and he was astonished by the quality and price. He essentially said; this is as good as the best places I know in Italy that serve classic Italian cuisine and it costs half of what I would pay in Milan.
As someone who has grown up in a Roman family I gave to agree. I would love to see more classic Roman trattoria dishes such as Stracciatella, Zuppa di pasta e fagioli, spaghetti cacio e pepe, but I'll anything served at Da Emma without hesitation or regret.
Our group hit one of the godawful tourist trap restaurants in Vieux Montréal the following evening ; it cost twice as much and it was so bad and unsatisfying, we all felt used and abused. I made a point to to leave that place a very bad review.
This experience in retrospect made us feel we had been pampered at Da Emma.
If you see a super expensive restaurant in that area that pretends to serve 'rare' Italian dishes, run for cover : You're about to get robbed and you'll be treated unpolitely by staff who clearly see you as the loser their business was designed to abuse.
None of this at Da Emma. You'll be treated with genuine attention and respect. I'd go there everyday if I lived by, but wonderful places are best kept for when you deserve them.
