Surprisingly complex dishes! For example, a side of carrots turns out to be carrots made three ways. Such delicious food, personable staff, perfect ambience. And great wine list!

My wife and I stayed at the Epik hotel around the corner. We had always wanted to try Chef Hughes restaurant so this was our Xmas gift to each other. Two nights in Montreal (we are from Oshawa) staying in old downtown. We had the Chefs Table , 5 courses. I’m a Chef myself so it’s hard to really impress me with food. We can honestly say it was some of if not the BEST food we have ever had. The amuse bouch was a flavour bomb! The seafood platter was fantastic and the sauces on the main courses had us ordering bread to scrape it all up! Cannot recommend this restaurant enough, it’s pricey but well worth it.

What would happen if they rebooted Le Bernardin, kept the food quality and preparation but threw out the (at times stifling) formality? Turns out they did: Garde Manger is one of the best seafood meals I've had in my life. Hell, it's one of the best meals I've had period. From the not-the-same-old seafood tower through all of the creative, multi-flavored and stunningly prepared courses that followed. And the service is the best I've ever had anywhere -- including in three Michelin-starred restaurants. These people love their jobs, love food and treat the diners like pals in a way that feels really genuine. It's like dining at a well-organized party catered by a team of the world's best chefs. How this place doesn't have at least one Michelin star utterly baffles me.

Le Bernardin-quality seafood and cooking — or even better — without any of the formality. From not-your-typical seafood tower through every exquisitely sourced, cooked and plate course that follows this was one of the finest meals I've ever had. And the staff are delightful — caring, attentive and fun. Le Bernardin has three Michelin stars. Garde Manger is arguably better.

Have you ever wished for more stars? The combination of super service, amazing food, and relaxed atmosphere makes Garde Manger stand out in a trip of wonderful experiences. We chose a la carte options for this visit over the chef’s menu. From starters to our perfectly balanced chocolate deserts we enjoyed every bite. All around great experience. Food was exceptional. We had the snow crab as an appetizer and it was amazing. Hanger steak entree was one the best I've ever had. Server had a great personality and the ambiance was what you would expect to find a fine dining establishment. Would highly recommend.

Well worth the visit was a long time coming From when Chuck Hughes was in Thunder Bay for his cookbook signing. We went to the other restaurant he owned, Le Bremner, when we were in Montreal 12 years ago. We will definitely be back

This has been on our bucket list of restaurants to visit since it first opened. My wife and I indulged in the 2nd tier Chefs Tasting menu. It was truly sublime. As people who have worked in fine dining for over 20 years I have to say this was one of the finest meals we have ever enjoyed. The service was amazing and the overall experience will not be forgotten. We recommend to everyone and we can't wait to return again for another gastronomical epiphany .
