I have been getting pastries here many Saturday mornings for 4 years or so and they are always excellent. I think for pure technical perfection Au Kouing-Amann may be slightly better, but Hof Kelsten makes a much wider range of different things (indeed, most of my favorites at Hof Kelsten are items that only they make). I particularly appreciate the selection of savory pastries, an area where they far surpass most other bakeries in the neighborhood - I especially recommend the zaatar torsade which my wife insists (for good reason) that I bring back every time I go.

In addition to the viennoiserie, the chocolate babka is also absolutely fantastic. And (though my experience on this front is more limited), the sandwiches are great, too.

My only complaints: 1. I love the tomato feuilleté but feel like it was only very briefly present this summer (I think I only managed to get it once). 2. Rugelach (the best rugelach I've ever had, in fact) used to be consistently available, but I can't remember the last time I saw it.

Very good selection of baked goods. The Babka is very well made but you need to get there early to get one as they fly off the shelves. Good coffee, the staff does a very good job and is always courteous and friendly. One of my go-to stops whenever I am in Montreal.

Love their breads, but it's the matzo ball soup and brisket that is the star. Ok, maybe their chocolate covered matzah too. Absolute gem of a place with sweet, friendly staff. No idea about their coffee though. Best Jewish bakery/take out in the city for me.

Let's start with the most important stuff: the baked goods are absolutely spectacular. Over the course of just a few days I sampled the majority of the sweet ones - apple turnover, chocolatine, almond croissant, some sort of twisted cinnamon bun. They are the at the highest end of quality of anywhere I have tried in Montreal. They are not particularly cheap, but they are worth it.

The vibe is very much too cool for school with the industrial chic concrete floors, exposed pipes, and plywood and 80s music just a touch too loud for 9 a.m. The service was good when I was there by a cadre of 20th something bilingual baristas, but it was casual in a way that that might not appeal to all. It very much struck me as a place that will shortly go viral and have lines out the door.

This place is excellent across the board, especially service.
My only remark as an apple lover: please put more apple in the turnovers please, there was a hair's width of it in the last one I ordered!

Best croissant in Montreal!! Buttery, crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside. Can’t have enough of it! You have to go early in the morning… they sold out so quickly! It took me few visits to be able to get the croissant. Enjoy! 🥐

“I’ll have an Americano with cream”
“Uh, we only have milk.”
