Went to Jun I with high expectations. Overall, it was a good experience, though not outstanding considering the premium pricing.

The sushi quality is excellent, with fresh, tasty, and fatty cuts of fish—definitely among the better sushi spots in Montreal. My personal highlight was the curry sushi, which stood out as particularly delicious.

However, service was friendly but slow and somewhat disorganized. Our group of six ended up staying for almost three hours, partly due to long wait times between courses. Some dishes arrived unevenly, leaving some of us without food for extended periods.

Desserts were enjoyable, but nothing exceptional.

One notable issue was the soy sauce, which our entire group found overly salty and concentrated. It detracted somewhat from the sushi’s delicate flavors.

Despite these points, Jun I is still a solid choice for a high-end sushi dinner with friends, just adjust your expectations accordingly.

The food was excellent—no complaints there. However, the service left a lot to be desired. We waited over an hour for our meals and ended up spending nearly four hours at the restaurant. For a group of six, the timing was off—some of us received our food while others were still waiting. It definitely affected the overall experience. That said, the restaurant had a great vibe, and the food was truly worth the wait.

We tried this restaurant with high expectations—and a bill to match (over $100 per person). We ordered the Sushi Moriawase, which came beautifully presented and included some nicely prepared nigiri and a standout hand roll—light, fresh, and well-balanced in flavor. Definitely one of the highlights.

However, the portion was quite small, and even after adding some à la carte sushi (like a crab one that sadly missed the mark), we left still feeling hungry and ended up grabbing more food afterward. For the price, we expected not only high quality (which was just decent) but also a more satisfying experience overall. If you order the Omakase along with à la carte sushi, I think you might leave satisfied.

The service and ambiance were okay.

There's a lot of restaurants in the city but this institution is just different. Hands down the best sushis in town but it's so much more than that. The omakase is a memorable experience. My wife and I had the privilege to be serve plates that we're as amazing as the staff in place.
Everything was exceptional.

Horrible service, avoid at all cost!

Was there recently, 2025. So disappointed. We could not tell apart the fish, they all tasted the same be it salmon, tuna, octopus... this can't be quality fish. I'm done with this place.

2020: I could not believe how mediocre their takeout sushi was. The rice in the nigiri had no taste, bland rice, and the maki did not hold together, the middle ingredient was separated from the outer rice layer. Never seen such poorly made sushi from a good restaurant. Not even fastfood sushi are made like that. I gave two stars due to their presentation.

I personally found the Kani Age Épicé a little too salty and didn’t need the extra sauce. The uni (sea urchin) was a little too overpowered by the rice but it was still fresh overall. The dancing unagi roll was superb as well.

However, the following two were the stars of this night for me. We ordered hamachi sashimi. This was as good as it can get for the city amongst all the other sushi options we have. 😊 Sitting along side the Hamachi was the Maguro Taru-Taru which we ordered as an appetizer. We collectively agreed that it was our favourite dish of the night!

We had a wonderful time, the food was fresh and tasty while the service was extremely quick. The servers were very nice as well. Highly recommend.

Good sushi. However exorbitant prices are not justified

I've been a regular at Jun I for a while and always recommend it to others. The food is consistently great, and the fish is always incredibly fresh. However, when I went for dinner last night (Feb 27), I had a very disappointing experience with my waiter. He was rude and arrogant, which stood in stark contrast to the usual excellent service. I was with my mother, who has an allergy, and his tone when addressing it was very unpleasant. After we ordered, he left our table without even collecting our menus. He only checked in on us once, just as we were finishing our meal, and it took a long time to get the bill. I also mentioned something about the bill at the start, which he said would be no problem, but when I brought it up later, he was dismissive and extremely rude. This experience has really turned me off from returning. While I understand that everyone has bad days, there's no excuse for treating customers poorly. I’ll be taking a long break from going to Jun I and sharing my experience with friends.

We went to Jun I for our first time on Valentine's Day. Other than the slow service, everything was absolutely fantastic

From the drinks, to the miso soup being probably the tastiest I've ever had in the Montréal area. To the variety of options available. It was great and we will return

Note: The Omakase has 3 appetizers and dessert that is SHARED. Then each person gets 15 pieces of sushi, sashimi. Thought it was priced quite high for shareable items.

My kids, friends, and family have been going to Juni for at least 10 years, but after my last visit, they will never see us there again. I had one of the worst experiences ever with a server who was extremely rude and openly disrespected my wife. We had no choice but to walk out. To make matters worse, I’ve been waiting for a call from the manager for the past month, and still, no response. I am extremely disappointed in how this was handled and will make sure this is public to save others from experiencing what I did.

The fish is fresh and good quality, but it's really about their unique rolls. They also do traditional roll combos as hand rolls.

For the price tag on this place, it does not meet expectations. The sushi is good but nothing out of this world. Me and my friend ordered the 15 piece set which was 75$ per person. We first got 4 pieces out of the 15 then got the rest like 40 minutes later. All pieces were on the same platter and even though we ordered different additional pieces, they were placed all together and served to us as if we were sharing everything although we never told them we were sharing and we ordered separately.
When asking for the bill, we weren't asked if we wanted it separate or one bill and just gave us one bill.

The cocktails were good. The sushi is good but for the price you are paying, it's not worth it and you can get better quality sushi experience elsewhere for the same price.

First time at the restaurant for me and my friend , have to say it did not meet expectations. We each got the 15 piece special and it took about 1.5 hours to arrive, the plates didn’t arrive together and we were confused as to the sequence of the services. The ambiance was not as expected. Decor was too simple. The quality was good though. At the end the waiter gave us a joint bill, never asked if we wanted to pay separately. Definitely prefer RYU since their pricing is similar.
