The food tastes good, but the customer service really needs improvement.
I am visiting from Sydney Australia. The 2 guys who worked there on 13/07/2025 around 230pm are extremely rude and do not understand what customer service is. After a short argument, “the kitchen guy wanting to prove his point to me”, I ended up cancelling my order. Very disappointed.
Supper rude
Chef and cashier was very rude with me
They say their croissants is fresh from this morning but it’s not the taste was not fresh at all and Nothing to justify the price too. The coffee, I felt drinking milk with ice. Good luck. I will never go back to this tourists trap.
Disrespectful staff, way overpriced
Tourist trap, avoid

Not great customer service- they were not attentive. Nothing else was open so went to pick up pastries.

I was waiting in line when I saw the employee licking his fingers and then handling the pastries without washing his hands. Big zero for hygiene.
The staff is very rude they give you dirty looks when you ask questions and they’re too busy laughing amongst themselves to actually process your order , too bad for them because that food court has many options with friendlier people waiting to help you

2 coffees and two almond croissants for $22. A bit expensive, and nothing special. I won't go back there. Although excellent service. Located in the Complexe Desjardins food court.

Visited here with no choice. We had late dinner (around 8pm) and most shops closed turn out taking this place. Inside the food court here got some bakery, sandwich and salad. Sandwich did not look nice maybe it was already too late. I ordered miso salmon salad (they don't have English menu btw) the fish tasted fair and portion is reasonable, with a bowl of green mix salad and avocado, while $20 is pricy. Staff looked annoyed when they encountered non French speaking visitors

The bakery is wonderful and the food quality is amazing. What makes it extra special, however, is the barista, Zainab. She is cheerful, polite, and efficient. I have been coming here regularly for more than a year and it’s all due to her outstanding service.

The service was unacceptable. My wife has a slight accent (by slight, I mean she works in French at a big corporation, seldom has to repeat because people understand her). I was born here and French is my first language. Every item she ordered was received by a frown and a “quoi? Un quoi?”, followed by “ahh un chocolat chaud, tu veux dire un cho-co-lat chaud”. “Tu veux ça? Ça s’appelle un croi-ssant”. “Un macaron beige? C’est beige ça?” with a grin. That’s when I decided that it was enough, I replied “c’est quelle couleur d’après toi alors?”. Her attitude changed and became nicer to us.
While preparing the drinks, she would take her time and laugh and gossip with another worker, laughing out loud with the attitude of those mean high school kids (they probably in their 20s though).
The ironic part is that they were not native French speakers. They all speak their native tongue (don’t want to specify which as it’s irrelevant to their attitude).
Can’t believe this attitude in Montreal in 2024. It saddens me. Please do better Boulangerie Moderne. Talk to your workers about respect and always try to serve people as you would to your close relative that dont speak perfect French but are trying hard.
