I don’t know if we ordered wrong or what, but was unfortunately underwhelmed. Pistachio croissant tasted nothing like pistachio. Pan au chocolat lacked sweetness and flavor. Almond croissant was the best thing we got. Everything seemed to be baked fresh in house and service was great.

I’ve been to here more than once and it never disappoints! The food is always fresh and delicious, and the staff make you feel so welcome. One of my favorite spots to return to.

Be prepared to sit in bird shit.

Desserts are great, servers are nice. But if you decide to eat your $11 pastry outside, there must have been over 100 birds on their terrace and now I have bird shit all over my pants.

If you know, you know—and if you don’t, you’re about to. La Cave à Manger is one of those rare spots that feels like it’s been kept secret on purpose. Tucked into the cobblestone charm of Vieux-Montréal, this pastry-meets-wine haven delivers on every front without ever trying too hard.

The pastries? Flaky, buttery, and borderline addictive. Their pistachio roll is a quiet masterpiece, and the croissants are textbook perfect. But it’s not just about the sweets—grab a jambon beurre or a slice of their pepperoni pizza and you’ll understand why locals whisper about this place like it’s sacred.

And then there’s the wine. A curated selection of natural bottles that pair beautifully with whatever you’re nibbling on. Whether you’re popping in for a quick bite or lingering on the terrace with a glass in hand, it never disappoints.

It’s effortlessly cool, quietly confident, and always delicious. Hidden gem status: fully earned.

I had their pistachio roll (the one that was viral on tiktok for a while), it was good but the cream inside was too much.

Incredible pastries, the almond/ chocolate croissant is filled to the brim. We went twice in 3 days and I wish I could go back. Watch where you sit on the outdoor benches, they are covered in bird shit.

The service was great! However, we got the viral pistachio and Nutella croissant and unfortunately, it did not taste fresh :( also, the filling isn’t the usual texture you’d expect from pistachio or Nutella cream - it’s more of a jelly which we didn’t like. It was quite pricey as well at 12$. I’m sure they have other great menu items that are worth trying.

La Cave à Manger is a hidden gem in the Old Port. Their eclairs are absolutely outstanding—light, creamy, and perfectly balanced in sweetness.

The space itself has a cozy, welcoming vibe, with just the right amount of character to make you want to sit down, relax, and take your time.

If you’re in the Old Port and craving something delicious with a warm atmosphere, La Cave à Manger is definitely highly recommend.

Nice baked goods.
Excellent, kind service.
Caution if eating outdoors: The sparrows may nab your food... (placing a napkin over your plate seems to deter them.)

This bakery is on the north side of Rue St Paul in Old Port. From the outside, you can see their patio seating. The entrance is easily missed, but you just have to go down the stairs.

The croissant is CAD$4, but it’s quite a large size. It’s very crispy and flaky! The chocolatine $4.50 was not bad. This one was so large too. The jambon cheddar $6.25 was ok; maybe it’s better warmed up.

Service is good. You tell the guy what you want, and then you pay at the corner with the cashier.

Nice place. It is way better if you get the croissant freshly baked.
