Great atmosphere, but the food was just okay. The vegetarian dishes were normal and lacked the 'wow' factor I expected given the amazing interior. Both the food and drinks felt a bit overpriced for the quality. Beautiful place, but the taste needs to catch up to the ambiance.

What a great find! Order the Samosa! It's the best we've ever had. Great drinks, service and atmosphere. Very friendly staff.

Server accidentally spilled a full tray of 8 drinks on me last night (top, pants, shoes and purse). I was cold and wet all evening. I didn’t make a scene because it was my friends’ birthday. We then waited 80 minutes for our food to arrive. I was still charged the full bill. Terrible experience.

The ambiance and food were great. However, being in the hotel industry and knowing how important and yet rare to get a great service, I was truly impressed with the service that I got at 409. It was wonderful. From the moment we arrived and were asked to take our jackets to the moment we left, everyone and I mean EVERYONE was so pleasant and attentive. We felt taken care of and had a wonderful meal. I regret not taking their names (honestly I was shy to ask), but I definitely thanked them for a wonderful job and I'm happy to leave a review because they deserve it. Thank you!

Lamb is great
Garlic naan isn't a naan bread. It's tasteless.
Mango Lassi is pretty good.
Service excellent
Atmosphere very good.

I love visiting Montreal for all the wonderful restaurants it has to offer, but my favorite, and the one I always return to, is Le 409 in Old Montreal. Just the fun, eclectic décor is worth coming for, but the food and service is what will bring you back again and again. Some of the best Indian food I've had. I just love this place!

The reviews for this place are super mixed, so if you’re looking for an honest review, here it is!

They have tons of vegetarian options, and any meat dishes were offered in fish, lamb or chicken!
The butter chicken- Was smooth, spiced perfectly and offered a good amount of protein for the price. I personally like a little bit more spice, but was good for the others at my table who couldn’t handle spice! A “died down” version of butter chicken that still packs a punch.

Chicken Tikka Masala- Decadent, well seasoned curry. There was a good amount of chicken for its price, this wasn’t a crowd favourite but still a good dish the table somewhat enjoyed. Though there was nothing wrong with it exactly, just when compared to other tikka masala’s it doesn’t stand out.

Other dishes such as Aloo Gobi (cauliflower and potato curry), the chicken tikka, and all of the appetizers were good and frankly very delicious, but nothing Noteable to write about them.

The naan and rice were both good, steamy and fluffy, you can’t go wrong with them! The rice had many components like peas and extra seasonings, which was super tasty, but we just wish a regular white rice option was clearly made available.
The garlic naan was delicious, and i recommend it over the regular!
- Only complaint i have about the rice and naan is that they both must be ordered as side dishes, upping the cost.

The desserts were fine, the flan cake was tasty but maybe if we return we probably won’t have it again. Though it was tasty, had an eggy smooth taste, only order it if you’re a big flan lover.
The donuts were good, but 6$ for 2 tiny donut balls smaller than Timbits was a little much.

The staff was kind, service was FAST, and the atmosphere of this place is incredible, you couldn’t even guess it was an Indian place.

-Overall, this restaurant is great for those new to Indian food. If you’re looking for authentic, spicy Indian cuisine, this wouldn’t be the place i recommend. But- that doesn’t mean we left dissatisfied. None of the food we had here was disappointing, all of it was tasty and nobody left hungry.
Would i come here again?- Yeah, but i would only really order the butter chicken and garlic naan, avoid any other dish I’ve already tried, and explore the menu a bit more. This place is great to come to 1-2 times, perhaps with family or co workers, but anymore i would have to pass.

Naan were good. Rest of the food was too westernized, doesn’t taste like Indian food and was very bland. Tasteless curries or tandoori dishes (which are surprisingly made with no tandoori masala and served with no Chutney). Overall disappointing experience. Staff was cordial and efficient.

Came here for a late dinner with friends and right when we walked through the doors I was in awe of the atmosphere, cozy yet classy. The setup of the restaurant is really welcoming and the service was incredible too. Our waitress Emilie was charismatic and her service was amazing, helped us decide what we wanted. She recommended the buttered chicken poutine and it was SO GOOD ! Definitely coming back soon for another poutine and pitcher of sangria.

Ate here last night and I understand why the reviews are so divided. The food was cooked amazing. The tandoori vegetables and paneer are outstanding. The quality of the ingredients is better than any Indian place I have ever eaten at before. However, it is not strongly spiced and aromatic as I normally prefer.

I wouldnt bring friends from India here, but if you approach this place like a fusion/influenced by India place it is great.

Butter chicken, naan, and the tandoori veg were outstanding.

Cocktails and service were great, and I would definitely be back.

If you're newer to Indian food or have people in your party that aren't too food adventurous bring them here.

(Maybe there is a way to spice things up, but they didnt offer it to us)
