I’ve been visiting Le Cartet for years, often choosing it for brunch or lunch due to its proximity to my office. It used to be a reliable spot with good food and coffee. However, my recent experiences have been disappointing.
On my latest visit, I ordered a salmon bagel, expecting a satisfying meal. Instead, I received a dry bagel with four minuscule slices of salmon( about 20g ) and a smear of cream cheese. This underwhelming dish cost me $20 before tax. Adding two lemonades and a coffee brought my total to $58, excluding tax and tip. For such a price, the portion and quality were unacceptable.
While the staff remains friendly and welcoming, providing service with a smile, it doesn’t compensate for the declining food quality and inflated prices. It’s disheartening to see a place that once offered value and quality now fall short on both fronts.
In the past, dishes like Le Canton were enjoyable, but given the recent downturn, I’m hesitant to return. It’s unfortunate to witness such a decline in a place that once held promise.
Good brunch place.one of the most famous. Always good quality . Service is fine too. This is a special place with its own ambiance .its special tables. Accept noisy place and then it is very nice.
Amazing food! Friendly staff
Fantastic breakfast. Definitely try the maple latte, very delicious. Insanely busy on Sat/Sun, but stopped here on a Tuesday morning and it was so quiet.
A locale, an ambiance, and food quality (or lack thereof) that in no way justifies the prices. The service was ok; the rest was mediocre to terrible.
Food wasn't good. But the employees are professional.

Loved the atmosphere! Smoked salmon bagel was great but not as filling on its own. Poached egg was alright but the meal was large!

Busy and lively cafe with a good atmosphere in Old Montreal. I ordered an americano which was tasty; more of a traditional Italian espresso blend. For food I ordered the Lac Brome which was decent but not anything spectacular. I found that it lacked a bit of flavour. The server was very professional and friendly! I would come back here but to try another item off of the menu.

I got the salmon lox bagel (brunch nordique) and I really really enjoyed it!! It was perfectly salty and toasted and the sauce on it was really good. The potatoes on the side were amazing! The waiter was very nice and the service was really great. Would recommend!!

I tried the Santé and my wife got the Nordique. Both dishes were very good and I loved the goat cheese pesto on the Santé. Smoked salmon bagel was quite good, although it didn’t have a very smoky flavor. While I enjoyed it very much, I have to give it a 4 star for the price (paid $60 CAD before tax for 2 people). It is quite expensive, and prices are getting closer to a more upscale French restaurant, but the ambiance of this restaurant doesn’t match a fine dining experience. Many of the tables are long with bench seating shared with other customers. It was very loud as well and hard to hear someone across from you. I still liked the look of the restaurant and the waitress was very friendly, I just think prices should come down a little for what you get.

Delicious
Went in for a breakfast, a bit "school cafeteria" wibes from seating perspective but food was great (took a pulled pork grilled cheese) and the staff was super friendly. Would definitely go again to check out other breakfast options :)

Second time coming in over 5 years and still as amazing as I remembered. Service was very friendly and the food is beyond good. Cozy on a cold morning and perfect for a date

There is nothing French in this “boutique restaurant”. It's expensive, and it's bad. I strongly advise against trying to find something quality here. If you just want to enjoy a “loft” style decor it’s perfect but it won’t go any further. When it comes to food, however, it’s really something to avoid. A distasteful cafe in a nice setting. The service is slow and unpleasant, and they are quick to ask for tips on takeaway meals.

Good address, a little expensive (2 eggs Benedict, shredded duck and a few potatoes + 1 drink) $84 all inclusive for 2 people, this is also due, I think, to the staff in large numbers 12 or 13 for 34 customers at the time we were eating… this does not encourage us to have a starter, a dessert and/or a coffee. That said, it was well cooked (small lack of seasoning but nothing serious) with fresh produce. Nice choice of products to take away.
