It’s not South Indian restaurant, it’s North Indian restaurant, too much food colour using, they have lots of biriani options but all taste same., South Indian dishes not available . previously it was a south Indian restaurant.

Thank you for the many years of honest and homely South Indian cuisine. As the only street front South Indian restaurant downtown (for years), you guys will be sorely missed.

The restaurant doesn't exist. At the same address there is Vedha restaurant - a Punjabi one, far from south Indian cuisine, though there is south India. Menu. I wish reviewers were honest and not sending people looking for south Indian food to another one
Service was so slow, added extra items to our bill because of the miscommunication from the staff. And we had to pay for it.

Came here for second time. Haven’t changed at all from the last time. I came all the way from Alberta visiting Montreal and when I wanted to have some Indian cuisine I came here. I’m not blaming servers but the management from the owner. Will make you wait for long (30mins) just to even take your order. Maybe won’t be coming back again.

Chicken dost was the best
Restaurantji Recommends
A very authentic Indian restaurant with great hospitality and service. Being a spice lover this is the second place after Surrey I could eat something spicy in Canada. Chicken curry is the best and their chicken thali is great.

Truly such a hidden gem!! I happened upon Madras Curry House by chance, but it was one of my favorite meals in Montreal. I arrived in the city pretty late, so most restaurants were already closed; in desperation, I looked up an area where it seemed like a few spots where still open, and just walked into the first place that would let me in...and it happened to Madras. The staff greeted me warmly and shuttled me off to a cozy table in the corner (conveniently located next to an outlet) with a pitcher of water. I was absolutely starving at this point, so everything on the menu looked irresistible, but I eventually settled on the vegetarian thali. It was exactly what I needed - warm, comforting, filling, and so very delicious. The meal came with yellow dal, a vegetarian curry of their choice (it was aloo mutter that night), two assorted veggies, a rice / lentil cracker with sambal, and a heaping mountain of basmati rice. Every single item was cooked to perfection and absolutely packed with flavour.
The service was quite simple and no frills, but friendly. It seemed like the entire restaurant was operated by just the chef / owner and just one employee, so it could take a while to get all your food. I, thankfully, only ordered one item so got everything in a relatively timely manner, but heard a few neighboring tables complaining to the chef / owner that they hadn't received certain items. However, I also overheard those tables raving about how outstanding the food was and the way the chef's style reminded them of their home provinces in India...so there's clearly something that keeps drawing folks back to this wonderful hole-in-the-wall spot time and time again. I just happened to walk in, but Madras was easily one of my favorite meals in Montreal. I can't wait to go back and sample more of their menu, especially the dosa!

This is a small, quaint restaurant located on Main Street with a decent amount of seating space. The service was friendly and fairly quick. Overall, the food we ordered was quite good. We especially enjoyed the tea, coffee, and mango lassi.
If you're looking for something light with simple, satisfying flavors, I’d definitely recommend giving this place a try. The portion sizes are generous, and the pricing is reasonable too.
