Great food with some original ideas. We were especially impressed by the vegetatarian dishes, they outshone the meat options in our opinion, although they were delicious too. Attentive service, will definitely come agai!

It has been my experience that my first visit set a benchmark towards increasing disappointment in later ones. The house cider, seasonal vegetables, and delicious desserts on the patio spelled a bright summer day to me. Perhaps, it was only an unfortunate timing, but the recent menus have done very little to highlight the locality, the dishes being generic with few creative touches. The baked oyster, presumably a classic, is a pool of mayo overwhelmingly salted with marmite drowning a few imperceptibly minuscule pieces of chewy oyster. The refinement and creative touch felt during our first visit has gone with the wind.

I was completely blown away by this place. I am a big fan of sharing dishes and the eclectic menu they have made it an extremely fun time. While the atmosphere was charming and relaxed, I could tell the staff was laser focused on making it an amazing experience and they succeeded for us. Every dish we got exceeded my expectations. They are clearly very passionate about this restaurant and I'll definitely be stopping by again next time I'm in town.

Food was amazing! Small plates to share are my fave! Folks there were attentive to when we finished a plate and then quickly brought another out, such excellent service!! The owner was helping out around the restaurant and he was really nice and on point with his service as well. Super friendly guy over there! I def recommend this spot!

If you like spending a lot of money on average food and listening to a overambitious waiter describing the ingredients of each course in infinitely precise detail, then this is the place for you.

Stupidly overpriced. The oyster tastes like it's just baked mayo and everyone at our table found it disgusting. No AC. Almost no vegetarian options. Truly though this is the most terrible tapas you'll ever spend 30$ a plate on. There's good fancy food and then there's just whatever overpriced garbage this place is pumping out. My group went here for dinner and drinks, spent 45$ a head, and then had to go looking for a place to eat dinner and get drinks, since we were both sober and left hungry unless we were willing to drop another 150 each on tiny cocktails, tasteless salmon, and grocery store bread served with hard butter.Vegetarian options: Almost nothingDietary restrictions: Meat and cheese on almost everything

My favourite restaurant of all time (and I’m a foodie). We found this restaurant a few years ago and have been coming here every time we visit Montreal. We always sit at the bar and ask for five surprise dishes- this method never disappoints! The baked oyster never seems to leave the menu (for good reason). It might be one of my favourite dishes ever. They also have a great selection of natural wines. We’ve had some great skin contact and chilled reds here.

This bistro, stranded on a quiet residential corner near the edges of the Plateau, was a pleasant surprise. We were made to feel at home the moment our reservation was acknowledged and shown to a cosy dining area beyond the main bar. The menu, inscribed on a chalkboard, hints at the caliber to be expected, with all dishes appealing. With bespoke wine recommendations from a quirky and interesting selection, the meal turned out to be a smash. Aperitifs, digestifs and wonderful (and not too sweet) desserts rounded out the experience. It turns out the culinary brains behind this brilliant little hideaway hailed from British Columbia, and worked with Jamie Oliver—who incidentally, wrote the forward to his book….which they offer for purchase on-site. Canadian interpretations on an array of dishes, which I look forward to trying my hand with. On a happy exit from this gastronomic refuge, the bar area was lively and warm. Superb experience.

Exquisite food with excellent service in a neighbourhood bistro that combined elegance with local charm. One of the most enjoyable meals of my life. The entrees are served family style and the staff are genuine and kind. The food was out of this world great… it stuffy classic French or silly upscale fusion, but rather the best ingredients combined and prepared with spice and thought. Best duck ever. This restaurant reminds me why Montreal make Toronto look and feel so cold and corporate. Eat here.

Fantastic eating experience here, we made reservations about 2 weeks in advance and only early or late times were available. We arrived right at opening time (6pm) and it was already buzzing. They have a chalkboard/index card menu in the middle of the restaurant so if you can’t see it from your table, you just have to take a picture to study! The dishes are pretty much tapas style (but slightly bigger portions) so we got 4 things to share - asparagus, baked oyster, calamari, and gnocchi with morels (see details below). Everything was delicious, especially the baked oyster, which is their signature dish and indeed quite unique in preparation, taste and presentation! Ambience was very laid back and fun, the bathroom was very dark though (watch out for the step down), staff was very friendly and knowledgeable but service was quite slow (so don’t come here when you’re in a rush!). Definitely recommend!Asparagus - the garlic aioli is one of the best ever, perfectly creamy, I could just eat it on its own. Asparagus was tender and delicious as well especially with crunchy bread crumbs on top.Baked oyster - this is a MUST HAVE. So special and unique and amazingly flavored. Even if you don’t like marmite, don’t let that turn you off!Gnocchi with morels - the morels especially were delicious and the sauce was excellent with crispy sage on top. Didn’t love the peas.Calamari - I almost always order calamari so I’m kinda an authority on this topic. And these were good but not super special and not the most tender (certainly beats the fried version though, and the capers and sauce were a nice touch).

I was visiting Montreal, suggested by a friend to dine and am I ever happy I did! I am a traveler across Canada, and I went by myself to dine at one of Canada's top 100 and I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! From service to food I was enthralled. I dined solo and I sat at the bar, It was an exceptional pleasure to watch the chefs at work. The crudo was amazing, but the real stunner was the meat pie. It invoked a visceral reaction within me and could not hold back tears as I ate the pork shoulder and rabbit meat pie. The service was stellar and I would recommend to any solo traveler, go to MP and watch the kitchen team pump out amazing dishes from the bar. It is unconventional, and if you don't like that, get lost! I loved my time and thank you chef for the baked oyster and the shot. I will send everyone I know there, and congrats for staying on Canada's top 100. I believe you should rank closer based on my experience. Forever grateful. <3

What a PERFECT start to a weekend in Montreal! We dined here late (booking around 9p) on a Friday evening. It was perfect. Fantastic neighborhood vibe; bustling and joyful, full of locals. Lovely staff, having a great time with a keen sense of humor. Nice little cocktail list and a particularly excellent selection of beers; a great way to sample craft brews from the area. And memorably delicious food, from a perfectly dressed green salad to gnocchi with wonderfully herbaceous sauce to pappardelle with a rich ragu. A+. Excited to return on a future visit!

I am struggling for the words to describe the amazing experience we just had at Maison Publique. We went to the restaurant several years ago on a cold November night and had a wonderful experience, we had always hoped to return. Just by chance we were able to get a reservation during a very busy Easter weekend. We were greeted warmly by the owner and received great enthusiasm when we asked if we could have a tasting menu for the five of us. We asked that they select our courses. From the smoked tuna, through the baked oysters and the braised lamb shoulder among many many other wonderful selections we were delighted at every turn. A bottle of prosecco to start followed by a white burgundy then a red, each better than the last wrapping up with three amazing desserts. It is an experience not to be missed. The staff is friendly and informed-the dining room comfortable and homey. It is truly my favorite restaurant. Make sure you make the time. This is not for someone on a deadline, it needs to be appreciated without stress.

I love eating here. The menu changes all the time, but all of their dishes are craving worthy. The sauces are so good, you'll wanna eat every last drop. I've been a handful of times, and have left satisfied and very happy every time.
